Southern Counties Canine Association

Breed: Dachshund (Long Haired)

Thank you to the committee of Southern Counties for inviting me to judge at one of my favourite shows of the summer. I had some lovely dogs to go over in all four breeds I judged.

Long Haired Dachshund

My first time awarding CCs in this variety and I found the quality good overall with some excellent heads and fronts. Ground clearance and overall proportions need to be watched as a few a bit too low to the ground or a touch too long not giving the desired 2:1 proportion as described in the standard.

Puppy Dog

Two litter brothers, both quite different in type but both with plenty to like.

1st. Bronia Luciano TAF (Miss C & Mr A Wilkinson & Wakeham). Red male with a masculine head, good muzzle to skull proportions and nice eye shape and ears. Strong neck going into a super shoulder with balanced return of upper arm and excellent prominent sternum. Excellent feet and bone. Well ribbed up but a touch longer in loin that I’d prefer. Well angulated rear and a lovely mover, especially in profile. Best Puppy dog, I preferred the bitch puppy for more compact proportions.

2nd. Bronia Leonardo (Mrs Ja & Mr Ag Cooper & Hendren). Red male with super head and excellent almond eye. A touch shorter in neck and not the upper arm of the winner. Excellent feet and lovely overall body proportions with good length of rib, strong loin and a good top line and ground clearance. Sound mover and a close decision between him and 1st place.

1st. Ranglewood Xmas Cracker to Riveroyal (Mrs A Partridge). Black and Tan with super masculine head and balanced muzzle to skull proportions. Eye a touch rounder than I’d like and front could be better, being slightly upright in shoulder. Good feet and enough sternum with nice length of rib and balanced loin giving a good topline and sufficient ground clearance. Strong hindquarters which he used well on the move, just lacking reach in front. Lovely coat and condition and overall good breed type.

1st. Abydezi Shades of Glory (Miss K Lacey). Shaded red with masculine head of good proportions, well set ears and a good length of neck. Good front with well laid shoulders and good return of upper arm, good feet and sternum. Had a tendency to roach his back today ruining his topline and not so happy on the move, I’d like to see a bit more reach and drive from him. Not his day today.

1st. Sundayshill Theodore at Borzdac (Mrs J Fricker). Quality shaded red made with superb masculine head, lovely almond eye shape and correct convex muzzle balanced to his skull with good underjaw and well-set ears. Lovely strong neck of good length going into a super front with well laid shoulders, balanced return of upper arm and nice tight elbows. Excellent sternum with very good feet and bone. Well ribbed up with strong loin of good length and nice compact proportions overall with plenty of ground clearance and excellent topline. Lovely movement with sound strong hindquarters and plenty of reach in front. I was delighted to award him the Challenge Certificate and Best of Breed in today’s entry. I was informed afterwards that this is his 4th CC having won his title at Bath just a few days before. A worthy Champion indeed.

2nd. Trixhund Ten from Len JW ShCEx OSW (Mr D M Lewis). Black and Tan male with a super head, excellent almond eyes and lovely ears. Nice strong neck going into an excellent front with well laid shoulders, balanced return of upper arm and nice tight elbows. Good sternum and excellent length of rib with good spring and strong loin. Balanced hindquarters and lovely sound mover. If I was being picky, I’d just like a touch more ground clearance, but a quality dog through and through and was delighted to award him the RCC today.

3rd. Breezelyn Love You Long Time (Mrs J & Mrs A Pike & Carter)

1st. Glasvey Double Trouble for Loggeta JW VW (Miss D M Bailey). Quality shaded red 9-year-old bitch with lovely feminine head of super proportions. A touch rounder in eye if I’m being critical but excellent neck going into a super front with well laid shoulders, balanced return of upper arm, nice tight elbows and excellent feet and sternum. Good length of rib with strong loin and excellent topline and ground clearance. Well angulated hindquarters being strong and sound and having super profile movement. A quality bitch in excellent coat and condition and a super example. Delighted to award her the RCC in today’s entry, I understand she has also recently gained her title, another very worthy champion.

1st. Abydezi Abracadabra (Miss K Lacey). Black and Tan bitch with lovely head and eye shape, nice convex muzzle and balanced skull with well set ears. Super length of neck going into excellent shoulders and balanced return of upper arm with very good feet. Ribs of good length with balanced loin and good ground clearance and topline. The more together on the move of these two sisters today, still raw but plenty to like.

2nd. Abydezi Bellatrix Loggeta (Mr L J Cross). Ultra feminine bitch with the most delightful head and rash expression. Good length of neck going into well laid shoulders. Just a touch short in upper arm and not as filled in chest yet as her sister. Lovely length of rib with good topline and when she wanted to move sound up and back. Being very naughty today for her handler, definitely one with an air of defiance about her. I’m sure once she has settled, she will have a promising future as another lovely puppy.

Considered for higher awards I am sure she has a bright future ahead of her.

2nd. Bronia Letizia for Wakywilks (Miss C & Mr A Wilkinson & Wakeham). Pretty bitch with a feminine head and lovely almond eye. Good front with well laid shoulders, nice tight elbows and good sternum and feet. Well ribbed up with nice strong loin and good 2:1 proportion with excellent topline and ground clearance. Super head and expression with an excellent almond eye and balanced skull to muzzle proportions. Good neck going into well laid shoulders with a good return of upper arm and a good sternum. 1st. Hortensia Rude Amoredax Imp Ltu (Mrs A Norris). I felt this bitch had the most balance in this class with a beautiful head and eye shape, lovely underjaw and balanced skull. Very good neck going into the best front of the class with well laid shoulders and good sternum and feet. Excellent overall body proportions with lovely topline and super ground clearance, well sprung ribs of good length and balanced loin. Strong hindquarters and a lovely sound mover. Lacking coat today but a bitch with plenty to like.

2nd. Pettigans Viva La Vida by Riveroyal JW (Mrs A Partridge). Shaded red with a feminine head although would like a touch more underjaw. Lovely almond eye with good ears. Nice length of neck going into well laid shoulders and tight elbows. Good sternum and OK feet could be tighter. A touch longer in proportions than I prefer, however excellent topline and well angulated hindquarters. Moved well, being sound and balanced.

3rd. Cavallibrook One Final Kiss at Maudaxi (Mr P & Mrs D Reid)

Limit Bitch

1st. Swansford Daphnedora at Maudaxi (Mr P & Mrs D Reid). Shaded red of lovely type with a super feminine head, good underjaw and nice dark almond eye with super expression. Good length of neck going into well laid shoulders, balanced return off upper arm and good sternum. Good feet and well sprung ribs of good length. Nice topline and balanced hindquarters giving good 2:1 body to height proportions. A sound mover who I considered for higher honours, she does have a habit of sticking her head out in front of her when moving which spoils her outline, when she doesn’t do this, she looks lovely.
