Hungarian Pumi

Cruft 2026

Having been involved with this delightful breed right from the very start of their UK journey to recognition, I was eagerly looking forward to the lovely entry at Crufts that awaited me.

I was pleased with both the overall quality and general shape and size here today. The Pumi should have function as paramount when assessing the breed against our UK standard. They need to have key elements with regards to being medium sized, correct length of leg, squarish outline, typical head shape and weather-proof coat, never over-stylised. Nearly all entered here hit those requirements which was pleasing to see.

As with their close cousin the Puli, they will never be over-popular. They have a true working character and the challenges that come with that can sometimes be difficult to fulfil but they have charm and appeal in bucket loads so will always attract a dedicated following. I love them!

1ST 3178 - Cseresznyeskerti-Csalfa Zajos (Imp Hun) (Mrs B Edwards) A Pleasing 12 year old Veteran of excellent breed type. Built on smaller lines, he is an excellent shape. Moderate front angulation and correct bone . Fit, hard body. A little over-angulated at the rear. Super head and muzzle for length. High set ears. Correctly set tail, not too tightly curled and showing some daylight. Moved with a medium stride. Coat of even colour and correct texture.

2ND 3175 - Pumiden White Said Fred (Mr D & Mrs L Cooper & Lyn) As his name implies, a white. Masculine male who pleases in head properties. 1ST 3204 - Int/ir Ch Balthazar Pumida avec Schnaubern (Imp Cze) Bw18 (Miss M, Mrs W & Mr D Smee & Coleman) A real favourite of mine who has won well under me previously. He is an excellent representative of the breed and has done much over the years to raise the profile of the Pumi in the UK. Now approaching 11 years, he still retains his overall quality matched with his excellent breed type, size, conformation and typical movement. Always presented in excellent form and still holding his own among the younger males. Thank you for bringing him. RBD & BV.
