My thanks go to the Officers and Committee for inviting me to judge at their superb show. My stewards Aaron and a lovely lady whose name I forget, were top notch and kept the ring moving. I’m sorry that we had quite a long wait to get in the ring but you all did a great job keeping your dogs cool in the heat of the day. Thank you for your support.

1ST 2863 - Stormacre Bark at The Moon (Misses C & L A Mercer & Thomas). A nice pup with a balanced head, wide skull and decided occiput; eyes will darken with age. He has a long slightly arched neck, well laid shoulders, deep chest and good ribbing. Holds his topline and uses his well bent stifles to propel him round the ring. BPIB.

2ND 2857 - Eald Harvest Moon (Mrs L Hipgrave). He was unsettled by the change of handler and so didn’t make the most of himself on the move. He is strongly built and has a balanced head, deep chest and muscular thighs. He displays a very happy disposition through his ever wagging tail.

1ST 2853 - Bakerscroft Bosbury Pippin (Mrs C Gasher). Head of good width with a moderate curve, deep flews and a kind expression. Strongly boned and muscular, with good depth of chest and well-sprung ribs. Moved out with enthusiasm, holding his topline and showing correct tail carriage. One of the best in the entry for coat colour.

2ND 2867 - Crumbledor Archie Alderton (Dr S & Mr G Sampson). I was splitting hairs between these two. Handsome head, low set thick ears, arched neck. Well made throughout with good depth of chest and well bent stifles; just didn’t have the second thigh development of the winner and carried his tail a touch high.

1ST 2855 - Crumbledor Quirinus Quirel (Mrs S J Harvey). Although this dog was a bit short on feathering and frill, it was of soft texture and had the best gold tips. Masculine and balanced head, distinct stop, clear median line and frown. Moved OK. Great temperament.

2ND 2845 - Sovaroma Cliffhanger (Dr S & Mrs V Bennett). He is a tad too long in body for my preference. Has a decent head, strong legs, deep brisket and wide thighs. Although he had better hind movement than the winner he had a higher tail carriage.

A good class to judge.

1ST 2843 - Sh Ch Crumbledor Albus Dumbledor at Rydonmist ShCEx (Miss D Beecham). A thoroughly masculine dog, presented in superb condition. He has a fabulous head with characteristic frowning brows, pronounced stop and a broad skull. Excellent forehand with plenty of dog in front, standing on short, strong legs with well padded feet and good bone. He holds a firm level topline and has an excellent underline. His hindquarters are well muscled and powerful. He wears a coat of rich golden liver with plenty of feathering and moves with a typical Sussex roll carrying his head just above the level of his back. CC and BOS.

2ND 2849 - Sh Ch Harasteorra Big Bear JW (Mr L & Miss D Bradbury & Preston). This dog impressed with his very balanced outline, strong level topline, well laid shoulders, good return of upper arm and excellent ribbing. His quarters are strongly boned and muscular and his tail is well set on and moderately feathered. He has a handsome head with good stop, clear median line and thick ears. He moved well but just not as positive as the winner going away. RCC.

3RD 2846 - Sovaroma Beekeeper (Mrs V Bennett). Another impressive boy exuding breed type and who I liked a lot. He has a classic head and presents a true Sussex outline.

1ST 2848 - Sh Ch Harasteorra Aphrodite (Mr L & Miss D Bradbury & Preston). I see that she is the dam of the Reserve Dog ticket winner and has passed on many of her qualities. I loved her head with its moderate curve to skull, clear occiput and frowning brows. Her neck is slightly arched and fits cleanly into well laid shoulders. Well developed forehand, deep chest, firm loin and well rounded quarters. She wears a softly textured coat of good colour. Her tail is moderately feathered and whilst she carried it a bit high for my preference she moved true carrying her head just above the level of her back. RCC.

2ND 2870 - Foxhampton Femme Fatale at Bakerscroft (Mr M & Ms S Short & Bull). Of smaller build than the winner and a bit deep in flew for me. Presents a good shape on the stack and has a great tail action. Shows a clean pair of heels going away.

1ST 2862 - Moel Wynion of Stormacre (Misses C & L A Mercer & Thomas). A very nice young lady full of breed type and quality. Her head is lovely with a gentle curve to her skull, long low set ears, distinct stop and strong muzzle. She has such an inquisitive look under her frown. Her strong neck carries her head well and flows into well laid shoulders; good return of upper arm. She has plenty of heart and lung room, short well boned pasterns, wide thighs and moves with purpose and drive and has a typical Sussex roll.

2ND 2850 - Carnedd Gwenllian (Mrs J Clarke). She stood a bit bum high but moved well using her powerful quarters to advantage. Pretty, balanced head, good forechest , level topline. Good coat with gold tips coming through.

3RD 2852 - Mynydd Manod (Miss Sj Coney)

1ST 2862 - Moel Wynion of Stormacre (Misses C & L A Mercer & Thomas). Repeat.

2ND 2875 - Willowswalk Miss Sunshine over Belbroughton (Mrs H M Wyton). A quality bitch who presents a good outline and is strongly built without losing femininity. I liked her head which has a clear median line and strong muzzle. Excellent over the neck and shoulders, deep brisket, ribs well back and finished with a lovely big bum. Not as positive in hind movement as the winner but great in profile holding her topline.

What a class this was. Full of quality bitches and a joy to judge.

1ST 2865 - Sh Ch Gainsmill Lilly Luna Potter at Crumbledor ShCEx (Mrs S Mowbray). I have judged this lovely bitch over the years since she came out as a puppy; I loved her then and now at almost 7 years old she is the epitome of a Sussex Spaniel. She is quality girl of true Sussex type, presenting a relatively long, low and level outline with good substance throughout. She has a well balanced head with a slightly frowning expression, correctly chiselled with a broad skull and soft, typical eye. Ears well set and of correct length, framing the head well. Her neck is strong and of moderate length, flowing into well laid shoulders and a sound front. She has good depth through the body with well-sprung ribs carried well back, a firm, level topline and a strong loin, maintaining the characteristic low profile of the breed. Her hindquarters are well developed with good width to thigh and moderate bend of stifle, giving strength and stability. She stands on good bone with tight, well padded feet. On the move she is free and purposeful, with the characteristic rolling action of the breed, covering the ground steadily while maintaining her outline and topline. Shown in excellent coat and condition. I was delighted to award her the CC and BOB.

2ND 2869 - Bakerscroft Beckley Belle (Mr M & Ms S Short & Bull). She has a lovely head, frown and expression, clear median line, great ears, good front assembly, strong body and wide thighs. Soft coat with lovely gold tips. Whilst she has an accurate footfall she didn’t go with much verve.

3RD 2860 - Foxhampton Foxy Lady (Miss E Matthews)

RES 2841 - Sh Ch Varya Velikolepnaya Iz Valley Wins at Torshca (Imp Blr) (Mrs D Ashcroft)
