SMOOTH COLLIES.

I was very pleased with the entry, such a shame so many absentees! However I was pleased with the quality of the dogs and the sportsman like actions of the exhibitors. Thank you for braving the Welsh roads!

Junior Dog. (1)

1. Youngs Wynele Ace of Spades. 15months, substantial dog, appealed for his muscular neck, leading into good body shape. Head handles well, with all in proportion, well-shaped dark eyes, earls a little light but well placed. He has good bone, and pleasing overall balance. Tight feet of correct shape. Movement in front needs to tighten but went with drive in the rear.

Open Dog (3,1)

1. Wensley’s Ch/Int/Multi Ch. Constella Hazy Cosmic Jive JW. BD Well known 5yr old. First impression was that he is more refined than the 2nd in bone and substance, however he is clearly masculine. Good head properties, balanced in both foreface and back skull. Eye just a little fuller that I prefer, with correctly placed ears which he used Ichest. Nice length of back, and correctly placed tail of correct length, which he carried well on the move. Well bend stifle, parallel hocks. Feet just a little flat. Strode out well, kept his topline on the move. Close run thing in the challenge.

2. Thomas & Lusty’s Blamorder Side Hustle with Mournebrake JW. RBD A little heavier dog overall, compared to the winner. 2 & 1/2 years. Balanced head, correctly place stop, enough underjaw. Ears nicely tipped and well placed. Strong neck of good length, but I felt a little unbalanced in body, as he is very broad in the shoulders, and a tad wide in chest. Has finer boned legs onto good tight feet and he has enough length of back, good rise over the loins and a well bent stifle. On the mover he was wider behind, more correct in front.

Veteran Bitch (2,1)

1. Sweeney & Lusty’s Ch. Blamorder Do Quite Nicely Aw(s). BB/BOB/BV. Only just a veteran at 7 years, one I have judged in the past. She has a lovely outline and body shape. I found her balanced in all departments. Head has good underjaw, nicely moulded foreface, well placed stop and good flat back skull. Ears correctly placed, with good tip, and well-shaped dark eyes. Neck was muscular, widening nicely onto good shoulder placement. Well angulated on the forequarters. Ribcage of good width, giving plenty of heart room, well angulated shoulders, nicely boned legs and tight feet. In profile, no mistaking her femininity, but she has plenty of bone & muscle to show she is capable of a day’s work. Slight rise over the loin, well bent stifle and very neat parallel hocks. On the move, she took a little while to ‘settle in’ but was very sound in front and rear actions. Apparently, I made this same remark when I last judged her. Good presentation showed well. In the challenge I preferred her overall outline, but a close contest.

1. Thomas’s Blamorder Butter Side Down at Mournebrake. BP. 11month old tri, very feminine with a nice outline, good overall shape and a lovely reach of neck. Her head is balanced, with almond shaped dark eye. Well placed stop, good flat back skull, Ears are well placed, but too light, with hardly any of the desired tip to them, which did affect her expression. Very feminine shape, with good spring of rib, enough bone & tight feet. Rear has good bend of stifle and parallel hocks. Moved out well when she settled.

Open Bitch (4,3)

1. Wensley’s Blamorder Starstruck by Versatilis JW. RBB. 20-month impressive s/w who has a balanced profile when standing. Nicely muscled and when settled gave the impression of a sound, working dog. Head properties correct, stop slight, correctly placed. Well rounded muzzle, well placed eyes of correct almond shape. Ears well tipped, all giving an alert expression. Good neck leading onto well placed shoulders and good depth of chest. Well off for bone but retained her feminity. Nicely shaped well arched feet. Good length of back, slight rise over loin and muscular inner thigh. Good bend of stifle. Carried her tail a bit high, but clearly living her best life! Moved well, once settled. In challenge I went for the more settled veteran, but I am sure her day will come! Quite a character!
