West Pennine Pug Dog Club Thursday, 7 May 2026
Judge Report: Mr Bjorn Erling Loken
My sincere thanks to the club and committee for the invitation and for staging a superbly organised show, which attracted an excellent entry of 106 dogs.
I was greatly impressed by the overall quality on display. Type and movement were consistently pleasing throughout. My principal winners were particularly outstanding, exemplifying true breed type, substance, correct size, sound temperament, pleasing expression, and short, glossy coats. Their breathing and general soundness could scarcely have been better.

1ST 55 - Conquell Cause No Bother (Mrs J.a. Long)
A very smart youngster of excellent proportions, short and cobby, with a masculine, well-made head, broad muzzle, dark eyes, small well-set ears, and defined head wrinkles. Nice neck, level topline, and a high-set, well-curled tail. Excellent ribcage and short loin, with sound angulation both front and rear and strong bone throughout. Slightly weak in pasterns at present. Moved very well. Excellent coat and temperament.
2ND 1 - Snugglepug Thingamajigg (Ms E Arnold-Stronge)
A smaller type than the winner and finer in bone, though still masculine. The head requires further development, not helped by ears that are somewhat large and low set. He has a short back, good pigment, an excellent temperament, and shows well.

RES 60 - Penelve The Entertainer (Mrs K & Mr P Mcalinden)
2. Pug - Puppy Dog

1ST 48 - Tsuselena Hell's Bells (Mrs S Lee)
An excellent puppy, short and compact, with a level topline and a masculine, broad, rounded head. Well-defined wrinkles, wide muzzle, and open nostrils. Dark, round eyes, correctly placed ears, and a good neck. Well-made body, though the tail is a shade low set. Good angulation front and rear, suitable bone, nice feet, and moved well around the ring with good character and temperament.
2ND 30 - Judamie Birthday Bash (Ms J & Mr D Dawson-Payne & Mousley)
Also a pleasing youngster, but still needing further development and somewhat leggy at present. Masculine, well-made head with good wrinkles, well-set ears, a nicely arched neck, level topline, and a high-set double curl tail. He requires more substance in body, and I would prefer more angulation throughout. Good bone, nice feet, and a shiny coat. Movement was satisfactory, though affected by his relative lack of angulation.

1ST 48 - Tsuselena Hell's Bells (Mrs S Lee)
DP-1
2ND 60 - Penelve The Entertainer (Mrs K & Mr P Mcalinden)
A masculine puppy who needs more body at present. The head is somewhat small and would benefit from rounder eyes and smaller ears. Good neck, somewhat long in body, with a high-set tail that could have a better twist. I would prefer more angulation. Light in bone, with a short, nice coat; colour could be clearer. Moved soundly.
5. Pug - Junior Dog
Entries: 3 Absentees: 0
1ST 53 - Roxmarr Pimms Royale at Conquell (Ms H G Linnett)
An excellent masculine junior of considerable substance, short and cobby. He has a large, well-made head with well-defined wrinkles, a wide muzzle, open nostrils, dark eyes, and excellent ears. Good neck and topline, excellent ribcage, short loin, and a slightly low-set tail. Well angulated, with strong bone and nice feet. Moved well, with a pleasing tail carriage, and shown in a clear fawn coat.
2ND 44 - Kelbrend Mister Marmalade (Mrs B & Mr B Kelsall)
A nice type with correct proportions, and quite similar in outline to the winner, though not yet of the same finish. I would prefer stronger pigment and slightly more angulation.
3RD 10 - Mopszwawa’s Heartbreaker for Joshotto (Miss A J Butterstone)
6. Pug - Yearling Dog
Entries: 4 Absentees: 1
1ST 4 - Zobear Le Grand Masquerade (Ms J A T Ashton)
A well-made dog of correct proportions, short and cobby, with plenty of substance, though the head is somewhat small in relation to the body. Well-defined forehead wrinkles, though a little narrow in muzzle. Excellent eyes and ears, though somewhat short in neck. Level topline, good tail set, although the tail itself is a little short. Well-sprung ribs, short loin, strong and well-angulated rear with low, strong hocks, and nice feet. I would prefer a more well-laid shoulder. Moved very well. For his age, he is already somewhat overdone.
2ND 71 - Roxmarr Grand Stand at Zoant (Mr A & Mrs Z Monk)
In contrast to the winner, this dog excels in head properties, with a large masculine head, pleasing wrinkles, eyes, and ears. Good neck, though I would prefer more depth of body. Tail is low set and could have a better twist. Sound angulation, adequate bone, excellent coat and colour, and moved soundly around the ring.

2ND 9 - Twirlytops Lest We Forget at Lauloura (Mrs A Burrows)
A masculine dog, slightly long in body, with a masculine head. I would prefer a stronger underjaw and more defined wrinkles. Well-set ears, good neck, level topline, and a well-twisted tail. He would benefit from a more well-laid shoulder. Adequate spring of rib, though somewhat long in loin. Well-angulated rear, but could need stronger bone. 1ST 75 - Ch Eivisah Sonnentanz JW (Mrs G & Mr S & Mrs A & Mrs L Pike & Pike & Hill & Mallinson)
A dog of outstanding quality who is every inch the true Pug from nose to tail. He offers a great deal in a compact frame, being cobby and well balanced throughout. He has a large head with the correct expression and all the requisite breed details, a pleasing arch of neck, and a short, level topline. Excellent ribcage and short loin, with a well-angulated rear, strong low hocks, and excellent bone. He moved freely with a good stride and the desired roll of hindquarters . Excellent coat and temperament. For me, a clear and worthy winner of the Dog CC.
2ND 95 - Ch Nijacpugs Hot As Hell JW (Mrs J J Truelove)
Another high-quality male. He is slightly paler in colour than my preference and was a little lighter in body on the day. Nevertheless, he has an excellent head, neck, and topline, together with an excellent tail, strong hindquarters, a good ribcage, and a short loin. Strong bone, good feet, and sound hocks complete the picture. He moved very well and was a deserving recipient of the Reserve Dog CC.

A very nice, strong male of masculine type, with a well-made head and excellent expression. Good arch of neck, level topline, and excellent tail and tail set. Strong rear with low hocks, well angulated both front and rear. Slightly short in rib, which makes the loin appear a little long, and somewhat low on leg. Strong bone, nice feet, and moved very well. Excellent coat and temperament.
2ND 83 - Ch Eastonite Aramis Croftren JW (Miss H Reynolds)
A strong, masculine male of good proportions and sound overall construction. He is well made throughout. I would prefer a cleaner colour, and on the day he was carrying a little too much weight.

Well-laid shoulder, long ribcage, and sound angulation both front and rear, with low hocks, good bone, and nice feet. Excellent coat and colour. Moved steadily with a good stride. She was a clear and deserving winner of the class.
2ND 96 - Barryann's Precious (N Turnbull)
She still needs time to mature and further develop to challenge at the top level. Nevertheless, she has a beautiful, well-made head with an excellent expression, broad muzzle, open nostrils, nice eyes, and well-set black ears. Good neck, though the topline could be more level. Tail set is a little low and the tail could be tighter. Somewhat light in bone, and I would prefer more angulation. Feet are rather open and weak. Good coat, though the colour could be cleaner.

1ST 90 - Rossmix Pure Pug (Mrs A-L Smeds)
This young lady took me by surprise, as she possesses so much of what I look for in terms of proportions and breed type. She is very well made throughout, with a beautiful head, good width of muzzle and underjaw, dark round eyes, and an excellent reach of neck. She has a short, level topline, a high tail set with a double curl, excellent ribcage, pronounced forechest, short loin, and a strong rear. Good bone and feet, and she moved like a dream. To complete the picture, I would prefer slightly smaller ears and more defined head wrinkles.
2ND 32 - Judamie’s Edith’s Sunshine (Ms J & Mr D Dawson-Payne & Mousley)
Also a very nice puppy with strong breed characteristics. She has a very nice head and expression, a level topline, an excellent tail, a strong rear, good ribcage, and a short loin. Her principal fault is shoulder placement, which affects both her outline and her movement.

A mature female of excellent type and correct proportions. She is short and cobby, with plenty of substance. Feminine head with broad muzzle and good underjaw, excellent eyes and ears. A feminine bitch who still has some way to go before she can challenge at the highest level. She has a nice, feminine head, although somewhat narrow in muzzle, with nice eyes and small ears. Very short in neck due to shoulder placement, with a level topline and a slightly low-set tail. Good ribcage and short loin, but somewhat narrow behind. I would prefer more angulation throughout. Suitable bone and feet, though her shoulder placement and lack of angulation affect her movement, which is not as good as required.

For me, she was the clear and deserving winner of the Bitch CC.
2ND 6 - Bilohka Baby Browning (Miss D R Bailey)
A feminine, sound bitch of pleasing size. She could offer a little more in several areas overall. Feminine head, somewhat narrow in muzzle, with good eyes, open nostrils, well-set ears, and defined head wrinkles. Good neck and a level topline, though the tail is a little low set. 1ST 92 - Ch Rhodenash Kotten Kopy JW (Mrs K A Storey)
A very nice veteran bitch in superb condition. She is so well made that there are hardly any anatomical faults to be found. She had the best front assembly of the day, with pronounced forechest and front legs set well under the body. A good arch of neck allows her to carry her head proudly, and she has a feminine head with a beautiful expression, excellent eyes and ears, and a level topline. Strong rear, correct angulation, long ribcage, short loin, and suitable bone throughout. She moved steadily with a really good stride. She came close to the Bitch CC and ultimately had to settle for the Reserve; to complete the picture, I would prefer a slightly higher tail set.

Another veteran in superb condition. She is short, compact, and has a beautiful feminine head with an excellent expression. Nice arch of neck, a slightly roached topline, and a high-set tail.
