Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier (Non CC)

Judge: Dr A Griffiths

I would like to thank the officers and committee for their invitation to judge at this show and the exhibitors for their entries and accepting my decisions. Special thanks also to my stewards Hazel and Joanne for their friendly help and efficiency. I was pleased to see that there was very little over trimming of coats and that temperaments were all good and in the main full of confidence and spirited. Mouths and dentition were also mainly good. I was pleased with my final places, some of which could change places on another day.

PGD 1 (0) 1 Lui, Mrs L N, Eblanahalls Gold Fascinus JW Despite being the only dog entered in the breed this boy did not disappoint. At just 12 months he exudes quality and breed type and excellent wheaten temperament. Always in tune with his handler he is strong, well  built and very well balanced without being exaggerated in any way. His profuse coat is a good colour and I look forward to seeing it once fully matured. His correctly proportioned head is powerful and masculine. His lips are tight and black and he has large teeth and perfect bite. His strong muscular slightly arched neck runs into long well laid back shoulders. His forequarters are straight with good bone and muscle. He has good width of chest and spring of rib. His body is compact with short loin and level strong back, Excellent tail set with tail arching gently over his back. Hind quarters are strong and muscular with well bent stifles and hocks well let down. Moves true with reach and drive. Delighted to award him BEST DOG and to see that he was awarded RDCC in the All Breed Show following this show

PB 2 (0) 1 Jeffries, Dr P 7 Mrs C & Miss C, Snowmeadow Una Ulisse I liked the overall size and shape of this 7 month old well balanced puppy. She already has a good length of soft and silky coat only lacking colour at the moment but this will come in time. She has a good head and excellent bite. Her ears are well set and used to advantage. Her dark hazel eyes have a nice dark rim She has a good outline with well made straight forequarters, well laid back shoulder, level back and good tail set. Her chest is moderately wide with good depth of chest. Hocks are well let down and hindquarters developing good muscle. Her free and graceful movement with good reach and drive gave her the edge over 2. Very pleased to award her BEST PUPPY BITCH and BEST PUPPY IN BREED 2 Johnstone, Mr R C & Mrs H L, Clover Supernova over Rouxboos (IMP USA) Neat and attractive 8 month old puppy. She is compact, upstanding and has nicely maturing coat wavy coat with lots of colour. She has good head planes and proportions, correct ear set and correct scissor bite. She has a straight forelegs and adequate length of neck. Despite standing well at times she was somewhat unsettled and this affected her movement

PGB 2 (0) 1 Walsh, Ms J, Crofftysofty Hay Siri at Paradise Compact, correctly sized 3 year old Irish type girl with beautiful wheaten coloured soft and silky coat that falls in loose waves. She has a lovely expression with jet black pigment surrounding her dark hazel eyes. She has correct head proportion with very well set small v-shaped ears folded at the level of her skull. I would prefer more coat cover on her ears to complete the picture. She has correct mouth and bite. She has moderately long neck with shoulders well laid back. Fore and hind quarters are well muscled with adequate bone. Her back is strong and level. Both bitches in the class were unsettled on the move in the class, seeming not as show experienced as the other entries, but she managed to get her act together for the challenge where she moved well with reach and drive and I was pleased to award her RESERVE BEST BITCH 2 Addison, Ms E R, Eblanahalls Humblebrag 20 months old she has a profuse coat of good texture and nice developing colour. She has a well proportioned head and scissor bite. Fore and hind quarters are well muscled with good bone. Her back is strong and level. Not quite as compact as 1, unfortunately she was rather unsettled on the move. OB 5 (0) 1 Lui Mrs L N, Eblanahalls Kiss Curl JW This 3 year old girl, at one with her handler, caught my eye when she came into the ring. She has good length of flowing wavy coat of excellent colour and texture. She is active, short coupled, strong and well built exuding terrier type. Her head and skull are flat, moderately long, of medium width and with well defined stop. She has correct eye colour with back rim. Mouth and dentition excellent. Medium sized ears correctly set. She presents an excellent profile with moderately long muscular, slightly arched neck running into well laid back long shoulders. Her back is strong and level and ribs well sprung. Fore and hind quarters are well muscled and pasterns are strong and springy and feet compact with good depth of pad and black nails. She has good bend of stifle . She moves well with excellent reach and drive. Delighted to award her BEST BITCH and BEST OF BREED 2 Lui, Mrs L N , Eblanahalls Gold Limerence JW A 5 year old girl of excellent type. Like 1 she has a lovely flowing coat of good colour and many of the same attributes. She is of nice size with correct head, good ear set, eye colour and large teeth with correct scissor bite.  Unfortunately, on the day, she was a little unsettled and uncooperative with her young handler and although considered for higher honours remained unsettled in the challenge.  Lui’s Eblanahalls Honeytrap JW awarded VHC in OB and Group 3 in Terrier veteran group I was pleased to award this 8 year old girl Best Veteran in Breed and to hear she had gone on to TVG3. I see from the catalogue that she is the dam of both best dog and bitch.  SpBgB 1 (0) Addison, Ms ER, Eblanahalls Humblebrag 2nd in PG.
