Retford Canine Premier Open Show 2025

I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge at their premier open show. It was a lovely day, well run and some quality dogs in attendance. My deepest thanks to my Stewards Anna and Roger for their brilliant stewarding and ensuring the ring ran smoothly and for their kind support. Lastly thank you to all the exhibitors who brought their lovely dogs under me. It was a privilege to judge your beautiful dogs. All dogs today were clean, happy and enjoying their day out.

Puppy (9/6)

1st Hodge, Mr & Mrs A R V & Miss R – NAIKEN ISLAND HOPPING (AI)

A well balanced 7 month old chocolate dog who is already quite the showman. He had a nice clean head with defined stop, correct scissor bite and kind expression. Good length of neck into laid back shoulders, nice thick boned legs and tight feet. In good coat. Well sprung barrelled ribs. Good tail set straight off the back with wrapped otter tail. Powerful hindquarters, good turn of stifle and well let down hocks, allowing him to move effortlessly around the ring. BP.

2nd Smith, Miss M – RUDIDALE SAVANNA

11 month old good sized yellow bitch. She has a sweet feminine head with brown, intelligent eyes. Good laid-back shoulders and nice amount of bone leading into tight feet. Good coat and tail set with otter wrap effect. Good spring to barrelled ribs and short coupled. Nicely balanced front and rear with good angulation both sides. Good turn of stifle and let down hocks. Moved nice and steady for her handler. Was close between first and second but preferred the movement of 1 on the day.

1st Smith, C M – FLYENPYG JURGEN CHOPP JW

Maturing well for his age of 15 months. Black dog with masculine head and defined stop. Lovely clear, dark brown eyes. Correct scissor bite. Good reach of neck nicely flowing into well-placed, laid-back shoulders. Good depth of chest and nice well sprung, barrelled ribs. Lovely coat and texture and in great condition. Well-muscled, balanced body. Straight topline into good tail set. Well let down hocks, good turn of stifle and great 2nd thigh which he used to help power him around the ring with ease. Great mover maintaining his topline.

2nd McLellan, Mr D N & Mrs SA – SARANDEN BOOK OF DREAMS

Nice yellow bitch, 17 months old. Lovely balanced outline with good head and kind, intelligent expression with broad skull, good length of muzzle and correct scissor bite. Good length of neck into well placed shoulders. Well let down hocks and good 2nd thigh. Nice tail set and coat in lovely condition. Moved ok around the ring once settled.

1st McLellan, Mr D N & Mrs SA – SARANDEN I’M ON FIRE

Yellow Dog, litter brother to the bitch 2nd in Junior. Many similar qualities to her and just as lovely but this boy had more bone and a stronger topline. Nice masculine head, correct scissor bite and good strong front with deep chest. In good coat with nice tail set. Moved with purpose around the ring.

2nd Smith, C M – EXELBY HELLEBORE IN FLYENPYG

Compact Black bitch with a kind head and expression. Correct scissor bite and good defined stop. Well sprung barrelled ribs. Short coupled and balanced muscular body. In good coat and condition. Preferred the bone and front of 1st. Moved well.

1st Woodburn, Mr N & Mrs P – CENTENALEE TIGER LILY

Beautiful Mature Bitch. In fabulous coat and condition. Excellent temperament and worked well for her handler. Pretty feminine broad head with defined stop, good length of muzzle, well placed medium brown eyes expressing her gentle nature and good ear set. Correct scissor bite. Strongly built, well boned and balanced. Good reach of neck with a flowing shape. Broad and deep through chest into well sprung barrelled ribs. Great topline which she held on the move. Coat was in top condition with correct hard texture to the topcoat and nice dense undercoat. Lovely tail set straight off the back with thick otter wrap. Wide loins, strong rear with good 2nd thigh, good turn of stifle and well let down straight hocks and compact, tight, arched feet. Attentive to her handler who showed her well allowing the dog to show its effortless movement as she flew around the ring with ease giving the impression she could do it all day long. BOB.

2nd Falshaw, Mr D A W & Mrs T J – LONICERIUM BLACK PEARL

Another Beautiful mature black bitch. Also In good coat and condition. Feminine head with intelligent brown eyes, defined stop and jaws of medium length with correct scissor bite. Balanced and compact with good bone. Good reach of neck with a flowing shape into well-placed, laid-back shoulders. Well sprung barrelled ribs and good width and depth of chest. Great topline which she held on the move. Short coupled and with good tail set. Good turn of stifle and nice 2nd thigh. Tight, compact feet. Attentive to her handler. Moved well in her class but moved even better in the challenge. Preferred the head and movement of 1. RBOB.

Mature Yellow Male. Masculine, broad head, defined stop with good pigment and correct scissor bite. Good reach of neck into well placed shoulders. Good depth of chest and nice well sprung, barrelled ribs. In great coat and condition. Nicely balanced front and rear and short coupled. Well let down hocks. Moved with ease around the ring.

2nd Smith, C M – FLYENPYG PORKY PIG JW OSW

Sweet natured mature Yellow boy who is very attentive to his handler. Masculine head with dark brown eyes well set, good pigment and correct scissor bite. Well sprung barrel ribs and good top line. Well-muscled in good coat and condition, balanced and moved with steady gait. Preferred the head of 1.
