Horley & District Show Society Premier Show

Sunday 24th August 2025

Thank you to the committee for the invitation to judge these exciting breeds at this lovely summer show. It turned out to be quite a hot day out in the open sunshine. Thank you also to the sporting exhibitors who entered and enjoyed their time in the nice large ring we had. I hope you all enjoyed the humour from my steward!

1 Bryant – Laurelhach Lotus with Muckypups, Attractive bitch, slightly rounded skull with defined stop and strong muzzle. Dark brown eyes. Flat bone to well arched oval feet. Slight rise over loin. Well muscled, but didn’t really get into stride on the move as was preferring to gallop today. Fortunately, was much better in the challenge. RBOB

Post Graduate (3,1)

1 Tye – Roydack Black Knight at Tyemora, Upstanding male. Handsome head, well proportioned with low set ears. Long, arched neck, well set, clean over the withers and tight elbows. Well angulated making a lovely profile picture. Flat bone on straight front legs. Well muscled with good 2nd thigh. Very free and powerful, parallel movement. BOB.

2 Williams Longbrow Ruby Tuesday, This lady makes a clean outline when standing. Sweet, feminine head and kind eye. Level topline, well muscled and good bone.

Puppy (5,2)

1 Smith & Welch - Quinnery Swinderby by Lypal, This boy showed masculinity in his lovely head shape with typical ‘dish’ appearance. Ears of correct shape, set and feel and good nostrils. Good width between front legs, straight front legs and oval arched feet. BP

2 Kennedy - Droveborough Black Magic, This bitch looked lovely on profile, all the ‘graceful curves’ are there. Had good width throughout and well muscled. Lovely lengthy mover. It was a close decision today.

Junior (1,0)

1 Kennedy - Droveborough Black Magic, 2nd P

Post Graduate (7,1)

1 Cardiff – Nightgold Pipkin, Typical, feminine head shape on this liver and white bitch. She had strong neck, cleanly set which flowed in to her topline through to tail set. Correct oval bone and visible sinews, well muscled throughout. Bit of a fidget standing, but exceled on her movement with lovely long free flowing strides and lots of drive. RBOB.

2 Welch – Hookwood Starman JW, Handsome boy with dark eye and pigment and low, thin ears adding to his kind expression. Long, strong, arched neck contributing to his good curves. Correct bone and sinews. Drove well around the ring with reach and drive.

Open(8,1)

1 Welch, Drake & Hazeltine – Clamerkin Jubilee Surprise at Hookwood JW ShCM ShCEx, Such beautiful curves caught my eye on this black and white bitch. She has a feminine but statuesque head, with those low, smooth ears, dark eye and pigment and so bright in expression. Lovely bone and sinews to correct straight legs and tight, well arched feet. So well muscled and didn’t disappoint on her movement BOB.

2 Welch, Maber & Hazeltine – Sharnphilly Toggi with Hookwood JW, This black and white bitch has a lovely shape overall, but I preferred the head of the winner. She has good width between front legs, well arched feet and excellent muscle and condition overall and moved with reach and drive.

Brother and sister who were very similar

1 Bowen – Clandrift Funky Angel, Feminine head with dark eyes and pigment. Smooth neck, well set on to level topline. Flat coat of good texture, Good bone and round feet. Pretty well muscled for age. Very confident and didn’t stop wagging that tail. Just felt she was more ‘together’ than her brother right now and very promising for the future. BP & RBOB

2 Bowen – Clandrift Make it Funky, Very similar, carrying a bit of weight across the shoulders right now and a little bottom high in growth, but it will all come together. Has good stifle and good coat developing.

Junior (1,1)

2 upstanding males

1 Bell- Curlycrest’s Sweet Home Chicago (Imp Nor) JW, Masculine head without being overdone, dark pigment. Tight, round feet. Quality shine to his coat, Good ribbing, stifle and strong loin. Nice type with good angulation and made a lovely profile. Was actually carrying a bit too much weight for my preference for optimum but nevertheless, he had personality plus and wagged that lovely tail continuously and moved effortlessly. BOB

2 Wilson – Hameldowntor Pedro Ximenez, Masculine head with correct eye colour and well set ears. Good bone and feet, would prefer a little more width through front legs. Had good muscle, topline and well schooled, he knew his job. Very friendly disposition and nice waggy tail.

Spanish Water Dog

Puppy (0,0)

Junior (0,0)

Open (2,1)

1 Searles’ Rommy de Ubbadat JW (Imp Esp) – I realised I’ve judged this bitch before some time ago and commented she was rather wiggly, well, she’d been waiting around all day and nothing’s changed! I found her quite typical of the breed all over. Her head is typical with strong muzzle, broad and deep. Her ears are dropped set just above eye level. She has straight and strong front legs with moderate angulation. Her neck is short and strong. Her coat was fairly short but equal lengths all over and not sculpted. Her profile movement was very open and she was a happy and robust dog. BOB
