Coventry (Foleshill) Canine Association

Breed: Spaniel (Cocker)

I would like to thank Coventry (Foleshill) Canine society for giving me this judging appointment and for Coventry Cocker for putting my name forward to the society. Thanks to my stewards on the day and who were excellent sorting out the wobbly table for examining the dogs very promptly. Thank you to all those exhibitors who gave me a super entry with some tough decisions to make where I required some more 1st place cards. All dogs were of good temperament, with lots of happy wagging tails. I decided to ask all exhibitors to show the teeth on their dogs to prevent cross-contamination from my own hands to other dogs, as there were no wipes available to use between dogs/classes.

Puppy (3, abs 0)

1st - Edasiy Dream Upon a Star by Sheigra (Imp Can) – 11 mth gold dog. Lovely head and good chest room. Good length of neck. Well-developed hindquarters. Plenty of bone and good tight feet, shown in excellent coat and condition. Full of exuberance and wanted to go 100 miles an hour. He gave his handler a very hard time, hopefully in time he will calm down and get himself together more. I felt this did not detract away from his qualities. BP – Group 4.

2nd - Annilann Da Business at Wissant – Blue Roan dog of 10 months of age. Another nice exhibit. Good masculine head with soft expression and dark eye. Lovely and short and has good bone. Moved well covering the ground.

Junior 2 (2, abs 0)

1st - Wilanorah Sat’day Night Diva At Wissant, 15mth – Blue Roan bitch. Really liked the head and expression on this exhibit, lovely dark eye. Presents a very nice shape and lovely neck into shoulders. Good muscle tone and moved well around the ring with a good wagging tail.

2nd - Camestone Jazzy Jeans, 11mth gold dog who was 3rd in Puppy. Still very immature so giving away lots in this class. Lots of puppy coat. Lovely head and expression with a nice dark eye, nice tight feet, well bodied. Good muscle tone, good bone slightly longer in body than my class winner, but lots to like about this exhibit and time on his hands to mature.

Post Graduate (11, abs 2)

A really lovely class I was spoilt for choice in this class.

1st - Purdyspride Rave on JW 22mth old blue dog – my notes read “cracking dog”. I loved the balanced look of this dog. Lovely head with soft expression and nice dark eye. Good shoulders with lovely layback. Lovely spring of rib and good substance. Moved soundly and happily and effortlessly with the handler around the ring to take this class. Groomed and presented well. Pushed hard for top honours in the challenge. RBOB

2nd - Whinburn Walk the Moon to Wensum JW 19mth black dog – Another quality dog in this class, pushed the winner of the class hard, on this occasion I really needed two 1st place cards. Exquisite head with soft expression. Good Bone and well ribbed with good depth of chest. Tight feet. Shown In good coat and hard condition. Moved well I just felt the winner of the class just moved more fluidly with the handler around the ring on the day.

Limit (3 abs 1)

1st - Reemif Blue Velvet at Popebel, 4-year-old blue roan bitch. Lovely feminine head with a good expression. Good shoulders with nice rib. Pleasing angulation. Good cat-like feet. Moved well.

2nd - Ferrersedge Shilling JW 2-year-old dog. Longer in cast than the class winner. Lovely head and expression with dark eye. Good bone and well barrel ribs.

Open (5, abs 0)

My class of the day where I required more 1st card places. 3 lovely exhibits fronted this class, and all could change places on another day.

1st - Kenward Black Grouse at Miska JW, 4-year-old black dog. Loved the quality of this dog. Such a lovely head and expression with dark eye. Good length of neck. Good chest room and well off for bone. Short and compact. Well ribbed. Had very good muscle tone which he used to his advantage when going around the ring with a lovely wagging tail. Groomed well. BOB

2nd - Kerriglow Summer Solstice, 2-year-old gold dog. Lovely head with soft expression, with good length of neck leading into good shoulders. Deep chest and well off with rib. Good angulation and well off in bone. Presented in first class condition and well groomed. Full of life but slightly unsettled on the move to start with but got into his stride very quickly. Performed better when he was brought back into to challenge for RBOB.
