IRISH SETTERS
PUPPY (1, 0 abs)
1st – Richardson’s Bardonhill To Be Or Not To Be. BP.
Promising male of 7 months. Lots to like, good quality coat of rich chestnut colour, attractive head with balanced properties, well laid shoulders, plenty of depth of brisket, ideal width of chest for age, pleasing rib cage. Parallel from behind, but a little loose in front at the moment. Lost out later on in MPD because the winner was more settled on the move.
SPECIAL YEARLING (2, 0 abs)
1st – MacFarlane’s Harelferg MacFarlane for Umfrido.
Beautifully presented coat on this 15 month old male. Loved his head, oval skull, prominent eyebrows, deep muzzle, kind expression. Well laid shoulders, deep chest, plenty of heart room allowed by long rib cage with good spring, small tight feet under well boned legs, ideal tail set. Needs to steady on the move.
2nd – Murchison’s Harelferg Penny Lane via Corphin.
I found out later that she is litter sister of 1st. Many of the same comments apply, but 1st was straighter from behind. Feminine head, pretty face, intelligent expression. She was a very nice shape when stacked, has a good depth of brisket, balanced body properties, plenty of width across thigh and neat feet, but like her brother she needs to settle on the move.
POST GRADUATE (6, 0 abs)
1st – Richardson & Richardson’s Bardonhill Mcintosh Red at Montgreenan JW. RBOB.
Handsome longish head with oval skull, deep muzzle. Loved his outline, nice neck set flowing through withers to top line, well laid shoulders, deep brisket. Well turned stifle and plenty of width across thighs, good angulation at hock, hind pasterns short and strong. A joy to watch on the move, covered the ground with ease, parallel movement from behind. Preferred slight extra length of rib cage of BOB winner.
2nd – Sturrock & Sturrock’s Forfarian Fancy Me JW.
Similar body properties to 1st, but this female lacks the same length of neck and her shoulders and upper arms are not quite as well laid. She has an attractive straight front with good bone, a beautiful head with a melting expression, attractive brows. Firm top line gently sloping to set on of tail. Very well handled.
3rd – Vallance’s Glencarron Second Edition to Corcencone.
LIMIT (2, 0 abs)
1st – Allan’s Glencarron Show Must Go On JW.
Excellent coat for colour, texture and presentation. Loved his head and straight front, ideal width of chest, elbows neatly against chest allowing for straight front action. Ribs well sprung, loin slightly longer than I would like. Well turned stifle, correct length from hip to hock, feet could do with being tighter. Very well handled.
2nd – Vallance’s Lynwood Rather Ravishing at Corcencone.
Preferred the head of 1st, although this female has a very pretty expression. Very well laid shoulders, straight front, good depth of brisket, nicely sprung ribs, slightly sloping top line. Parallel from behind, but would prefer a better turn of stifle. Sympathetic and patient handler worked hard, but this female still lacked some drive today.
OPEN (3, 0 abs)
1st – Murchison’s Kerryfair Please Please Me Corphin ShCEX. BOB.
Loved the balance and attitude of this natural showman. Masculine head with balanced properties, intelligent expression, happy on the move and enjoying his day out. Well laid shoulders, deep brisket, just enough width of chest, long rib cage with good spring, slightly sloping positive top line, nice bend of stifle, long from hip to hock, short from hock to ground, parallel when viewed from behind. Well boned straight legs, small tight feet, free flowing gait, covered the ground with easy well coordinated stride, good reach in front and drive from behind, very well handled.
2nd – Allan’s Braidmount Dreamed A Dream for Glencarron VW.
Feminine head, kind expression, skull and muzzle parallel and of equal length. Attractive outline, easy on the eye, pleasing length of neck, very good bend of stifle, straight legs. Top line not as firm, and I would have liked a more definite scissor bite.
3rd – Deighton’s Oakdene Schiehallion (imp BEL).
ENGLISH SPRINGER SPANIELS
All present were liver and white.
SPECIAL YEARLING (1, 0 abs)
1st – Stevenson’s Spuffing Daiquiri at Gaolachcara. RBOB.
Promising 15 month old female with a great character and ring presence. Lovely straight front, well boned legs, slight slope to pasterns, strong round feet. Very good lay of shoulder, elbows set close in and just right to allow freedom of movement. Firm muscle tone over loin and hind quarters, very good bend of stifle and short strong hind pasterns. Well handled, was carrying a little too much weight for me today.
OPEN (3, 1 abs)
1st – Stevenson’s Pearlblossom Brogan at Gaolachcara. BOB.
This male commanded the ring, positive movement, accurate footfall. Loved his quality head, slightly rounded skull, chiselling below eyes, melting expression from kind eye, muzzle broad and deep. Slight arch to strong neck, sloping shoulders, straight front, legs well under body, strong bone, compact feet. Well sprung ribs, short couplings, excellent bend of stifle, short rear pasterns, parallel from behind. Firm muscle tone throughout, well handled and well presented.
2nd – Rose’s Pineroch Amethyst of Rosannoch.
This female was beautifully presented and very well handled. Could not mistake she is female, she has a very pretty face and endearing expression. Neck of good length but could be cleaner at throat, well angulated shoulders, good bone, round neat feet with nice short toes. Hind pasterns could be half an inch shorter, she was not as positive on the move today.
SUSSEX SPANIELS
OPEN (1, 0 abs)
1st – McGeachie’s Lux Ch + Ir Sh Ch Malbecmogs Lady Of The Lake at Klanhallion. BOB.
Very well presented, but I would like to make a comment about the slight tear staining on her cheeks, this detracted from her otherwise very pretty face. Attractive head, broad skull, strong muzzle, obvious frowns. Long neck with slight arch, well angulated shoulders, strong chest, well boned legs with big knuckles, large round feet. Balanced body properties, deep brisket, long rib cage with good spring, plenty of depth through loin and flank. Firm hindquarters, strong with good muscle tone all through. Well schooled, expertly handled, true movement, together they make a great team.
CHESAPEAKE BAY RETRIEVERS
OPEN (2, 1 abs)
1st – Murray’s Muireatai Miracle Of Dreams. BOB.
Very nice overall shape and proportions, she settled as the class went on. Good tight coat, dense undercoat, tight hare shaped feet, looked as though she could do a day’s work and keep dry and warm in wet conditions. Pleasing head with broad skull and strong muzzle, muscular neck, angulation equal fore and aft, sloping shoulders and good turn of stifle. Excellent spring of rib, rib cage reaching well back to firm loin, tail well set on and carried level. Effortless stride, well handled.
CURLY COATED RETRIEVERS
OPEN (2, 0 abs)
Both had thick black coats with tight curls all over body.
1st – Cummings’ Maycourt Island Girl for Briechside. BOB.
A bit reticent to begin with, but she warmed to her job in the ring today and settled well. Lovely feminine head, correct bite, strong bone and balanced angulation. Liked her depth of brisket, width of chest, well ribbed back, short loin, shapely hindquarters, clean angle at hock, short hind pasterns. Straight front, well boned legs, parallel from behind. Would have preferred tighter feet, but she deserved her 1st place and BOB.
2nd – Cummings’ Molokain Enchanted One.
Sympathetically handled by able young man. Moved really well at just the right speed, covered the ground with good length of stride. Attractive wedge shaped head, strong neck, deep chest, positive top line, nice turn of stifle, round tight feet. Excellent coat, very tight curls close to skin, would have preferred a more definite scissor bite.
GORDON SETTERS
JUNIOR (2, 0 abs)
Both 17 months old.
1st – Bell & Millar & Bell’s Laurelhach Mercedes at Blairbelles.
This female was well co-ordinated on the move, had good reach in front and plenty of drive from behind. Quality head, defined stop and good length of muzzle, keen and kind expression. Well knit and well put together, long neck, well laid shoulders, pleasing turn of stifle, long from hip to hock, short from hock to ground, parallel from behind. Strong flat bone, neat oval shaped feet. Very well handled.
2nd – Hogg’s Gailiech Wirnpa.
Masculine head, pleasing slightly rounded skull, obvious stop, muzzle of good length to compliment skull. Excellent lay back of shoulder, front legs well under body, deep through brisket, strong quality bone, hind legs straight and strong, parallel from behind. Slightly longer loin than I would like, but his rib cage is deep and well sprung. Needs to come up on his pasterns, movement a bit erratic today but he was rather tense in this class, he settled better in his later classes.
SPECIAL YEARLING (3, 0 abs)
1st – Cuthbertson’s Lainnireach Star Gazer JW. BOB.
Movement powerful, level and true, accurate footfall. This 21 month male impressed greatly, beautifully balanced outline, excellent angulation fore and aft, strong flat bone, well padded oval feet. Very good lay back of shoulder, straight front, elbows nicely tucked in, ideal width of chest, deep brisket, well sprung deep ribs, firm loin, muscular hind quarters, good turn of stifle, short hind pasterns. Really liked his masculine head, slightly rounded skull which was well balanced with length of muzzle, obvious brows and stop, quality chiselling on cheeks. Slight arch to neck, a real showman with natural carriage. Well handled.
2nd – Bell & Millar & Bell’s L Mercedes at B.
3rd – Hogg’s G Wirnpa.
GRADUATE (2, 1 abs)
1st – Hogg’s G Wirnpa.
Was more settled here, he showed himself off much better, and presented a more pleasing body shape.
POST GRADUATE (4, 2 abs)
1st – Millar’s Cafotaliena Heart Of A Hero JW.
Powerful movement, well schooled and very well handled. He should deepen more through flank as he matures, but he has a deep brisket, straight front, medium bone, tight feet, and well arched toes. Firm back end, good bend of stifle, and short hind pasterns which were parallel from behind. Deserved his 1st place.
2nd – McFarlane’s Ardnadam Willow Coppice at Macdui.
Feminine with very nice shape of head, broad muzzle and melting expression. Long neck, ideal width of chest, strong upright pasterns fore and aft, neat feet. Well turned stifles, back legs parallel from behind. Top line could be more positive, and croup slopes slightly too much to tail set. Beautifully handled.
LIMIT (2, 0 abs)
1st – Cuthbertson’s Lainnireach A Star Is Born JW. RBOB.
Looked beautiful when stacked, and moved with true stride. Feminine head, slight curve to skull, strong muzzle, very good length of neck, excellent shoulders and upper arms, front legs well under body, straight front, quality flat bone, tight oval feet. Pleasing body properties, well sprung ribs, rib cage reaching well back to firm loin, well bent stifles. Good muscle tone, carrying just the right amount of weight, plenty of well presented coat. In the challenge for BOB, she did not move with quite the same power and drive of winner of SY.
2nd – Miller’s Liric Just The Ticket.
Beautifully presented quality coat, attractive masculine head, dark coloured eye. Sloping shoulders, chest of good width, excellent flat bone. Ribs just right, wide loin, flat croup, well set on tail. More angulation behind than in front and this showed on the move: he didn’t have enough forward reach to match his rear drive. A tad long in body and would prefer more neck. Well handled.
OPEN (3, 0 abs)
1st – Bell & Miller & Bell’s Balnakeil Beinn Corradail of Blairbelles.
This male was well coordinated, had ground covering stride, excellent reach and drive, he was fit, with firm muscle tone. Loved his head, skull and muzzle in perfect balance, kind dark brown eye. Very good angle of long shoulder blade, deep brisket, straight front, good bone, well padded oval feet. Ribs well back, plenty of depth of body, good length of leg, firm back end, well bent stifles. Close up to BOB and RBOB, poor coat let him down today, it was rather dull. Very well handled.
2nd – Hogg’s Gailiech Ngalyod.
This male had a symmetrical outline, pleasing flow from neck through withers to top line. Nice lay of shoulder but would prefer more fore chest and tidier elbows. Well boned front legs, hind legs parallel from the rear but wider thighs and more bend of stifle would complete the picture. Well ribbed back, good spring and length to rib cage, plenty of depth of body. Well handled.
3rd – Millar & Scobie’s Yennadon Calvay JW, ShCEX, OSW.
IRISH WATER SPANIELS
OPEN (3, 1 abs)
1st – Weaving’s Ir Sh Ch Stanegate Cast A Spell. BOB.
Smart on the move, straight coming towards and going away, a very polished performance, well handled, well schooled and plenty of ring presence, I really liked this female. Well shaped head, pretty expression, muzzle deep and wide, correct scissor bite. Very good rib cage, strongly coupled, well angulated hindquarters, well turned stifles, short hind pasterns which were parallel from behind. Slightly longer than I would like in profile and her coat was not the best, but she could not be denied her 1st place and BOB.
2nd – McCallum & Fraser’s Bogbairn’s Down The Rabs at Weemaes. RBOB.
Excellent bone, straight front legs, dense coat of tight curls. Masculine head, strong and powerful neck to well laid shoulders, level top line, excellent barrel shaped rib cage. Well handled, but please be careful, he can sink into his stifles at times, and this can make him look slightly cow hocked.
MINOR PUPPY DOG (3, 1 abs)
1st – Clelland’s Lochellan Ralph Lauren. Cocker Spaniel.
7 months old, blue roan coat. Gorgeous head and balanced outline. Clean neck, well laid shoulders and ideal angulation behind. Excellent rib cage, carrying just the right amount of weight. Was settled on the move and looked good in profile, well handled.
2nd – Richardson’s Bardonhill To Be Or Not To Be. Irish Setter.
Was not as settled on the move in this class. Please see 1st in Irish Setter Puppy for critique.
MINOR PUPPY BITCH (5, 1 abs)
1st – Mason’s Lynshow Apache. Cocker Spaniel.
Exquisite young female, just 6 months old, very promising, has natural ring presence. Sweet head and expression, ears set on well. Pleasing angles fore and aft, straight front, well sprung ribs, ideal tail set. Accurate foot fall, even stride, correct amount of weight, gold coloured coat, well handled.
2nd – Collins’ Millpoint Spread Your Wings over Vabisbrae. Pointer.
Promising 7 month old, attractive orange and white coat, Lovely reach of neck, sloping shoulders, enough chest, straight legs, oval feet. Pleasing body properties, excellent bend of stifle, well handled. She was distracted on the move in this class, by a dog outside the ring wearing a brightly coloured coat, but that didn’t go against her here.
3rd – Logie’s Albadhu I’m Addicted To You. Large Munsterlander.
PUPPY DOG (1, 1 abs)
PUPPY BITCH (3, 1 abs)
1st – Logie’s Albadhu I’m Mad About You. Large Munsterlander.
I liked her balance of depth of body to length of leg, very good body properties, well ribbed back, broad and well muscled loin. Feminine head, appealing expression, medium sized eye. Well angulated fore and aft, straight front, strong pasterns. At 8 months, she has plenty of time to drop into her stifles.
2nd – Hill & Smith’s Megarvey Cocomelon. Golden Retriever.
10 months old, depth of body already equal to length of leg . Plenty of bone, neat feet, very good rib cage, level top line, tail set on well. Nice width across thigh, pleasing bend of stifle. Attentive to her able handler, well presented mid gold coat. Would prefer more work in her head.
