Dalmatian Critique

Thank you to the committee of this lovely well-run show which for me is the start of Christmas. Thanks to my two stewards Stuart and Tamsyn. Terriers being my main group I thoroughly enjoyed my first time judging dalmatians, a breed I have a real passion for. Although the show clashed with BUBA I still had a quality entry.

Postgraduate 7 entries/2 Absent

1st Maddidalli True Love Kiss (Davies) – BOB – G1 – RBIS

Very attractive 16-month black bitch who commands attention the moment she entered the ring. Textbook proportions with a strong, clean head, correct scissor bite and well-placed eye of good shape and colour. Neck flows seamlessly into a level, powerful topline and well-sprung ribs. When stacked presents a very typical outline with balanced front and rear angulation, effortless movement from all angles. Spotting is clear and evenly distributed, enhancing her overall elegance. Presents a picture of strength and symmetry, thrilled to see her go on and win the group and then reserve best in show.

2nd Dalens Jewel in the Crown (Edens) – BPIB – BOS – PG1

Still very much a baby but extremely promising and full of breed type. A smart young male presenting a clean outline with pleasing overall balance. Head of good proportions with a kind, attentive expression and well-set ears. Good depth of chest for age, stands on straight forelegs, well-laid shoulders, strong in loin and has the correct tail carriage. Movement is free and rhythmic, covering the ground with ease. Spotting is even and of good pigmentation. Just needs to tighten and body up as he matures, but a very promising youngster. In the challenge felt he had more overall scope than the open dog for best of opposite sex.

3rd Wibmeister Remy at Coastalcove (Smart)

A well-marked black spotted dog who appeals with breed type and plenty to like at first glance. Unfortunately, today he was unsettled and difficult to fully assess, which affected his movement and overall composure. When settled in the stand, he shows correct proportions, a nicely shaped head, and a pleasing front assembly.

1st Shydally Ultimate Edition JW (Williamson)

A striking 3-year-old male with a clean, muscular frame and very good spotting. Strong neck flowing into a firm topline and excellent depth of body. Good reach of neck and tidy feet. Although moved with a tracking motion was lacking in drive being more upright in carriage rather than having free flowing movement. He is also rather proud of his tail which detracts from his overall profile, interrupting an otherwise pleasing outline both on the move and in the stack. A quality dog nonetheless with many virtues.

Open Bitch 5 entries/4 Absent

1st Kystuno Rosemary Russett (Stevenson)

6-year-old beautifully feminine liver bitch of classic Dalmatian type. Elegant in outline with a lovely, refined head and expressive eye. Well-laid shoulders and strong hindquarters contribute to her overall appearance both standing and moving, showing maturity and confidence. Another lovely example of the breed showing the longevity of the breed.
