Open Show – Saturday 18th October 2025

Judge: Tracey Anscombe

I was a stand-in judge for this show. Wishing the appointed judge well, and thank you to all the exhibitors for accepting me on the day. This is a lovely, well-run show, and my thanks go to the committee — it’s no easy task putting on such an event. Also, special thanks to my stewards, who did a stellar job throughout the day.

Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Graduate (2 Entries – 1 Absent)

1st Ringablok Maxie – RBOB

Black dog of 15 months. Head still needs to strengthen in muzzle and broaden, correct dentition with large teeth, could be tidier in ear carriage. Held a pleasing shape on the move with correct topline and clean rear movement.

Open (3 Entries)

1st Maynestaff Smooth Criminal – BOB – G4

Masculine black brindle dog, lovely to go over. Correct dentition with large teeth. Strong head with well-filled cheeks and tidy ears enhancing his expression. Moved extremely well with power and drive while maintaining his topline.

2nd Maynestaff The Girl Is Mine

Another black brindle with many similar qualities to 1st. Strong head with good dentition and well-filled cheeks, but not quite as positive in rear movement today.

3rd Ringablok Black Lotus

Special Yearling (4 Entries)

1st Glenaffric Hidden Magic

Strong, well-balanced outline with good length of head, excellent strength of muzzle, and well-carried ears. Dark eyes enhanced his expression. Deep, well-laid shoulders with ample forechest and a firm topline maintained on the move. Compact body with well-sprung ribs and strong quarters. Harsh coat of correct texture. Confident and alert in the ring.

2nd Celmareva Hakuna Matata

Another quality dog displaying great balance and breed character. Pleasing head of correct proportions with well-set ears and a bright, intelligent expression. Compact, well-knit body with level topline, well-sprung ribs, and short, strong loin. Presented in full coat, which could be tidied to enhance overall appearance. Moved freely with good reach in front, showing well for her handler.

3rd Glenaffric Must Be Magic

Feminine head with lovely expression and well-placed ears. Compact and well-proportioned body with correct topline and tail carriage held on the move, though would prefer more drive. Harsh coat of correct texture, just coming in.

4th Llanragles She’s The One – BPIB – PG3

A delightful young puppy showing much promise for the future. Lovely head and developing expression, with dark, intelligent eyes and well-placed ears. Good reach of neck, short back and well-set tail giving a balanced outline. Soundly made with good bone and substance for age. Still in puppy coat, but has the terrier attitude in abundance — one to watch as she matures.

Outstanding example of the breed — a dog of great presence and true Scottie character: alert, confident, and full of attitude. Beautifully balanced throughout with a strong, clean head, well-filled foreface, and well-carried ears completing the typical keen expression. Excellent front assembly with good lay of shoulder and depth of brisket, firm topline and correct tail set. Harsh, dense coat immaculately presented. Moved out with purpose and drive, maintaining his outline at all times.

A striking dog of excellent type, as expected from this kennel. Strong, masculine head of good length with well-filled foreface and keen, dark eyes giving a true Scottie expression. Well-arched neck into well-laid shoulders, deep chest and plenty of heart room. Firm topline and correct tail set, carried smartly. Harsh, dense coat expertly prepared, enhancing overall balance. Beautifully presented, in excellent coat and hard, fit condition. Typical in outline with a well-balanced head, flat skull, keen eye and neat ears giving an alert expression. Strong neck leading into well-laid shoulders, level topline and correctly set tail. Compact body with good rib and depth, straight front and well-angulated quarters. Moved with great style and precision, showing reach and drive while maintaining her outline throughout.

2nd Cwmcoch Pollypocket – RBOB

A charming veteran who clearly enjoys her day in the ring, sharing a lovely rapport with her young handler. Still full of quality and type, with a pleasing head, bright expression, and correct proportions throughout. Shown in full coat and still moving soundly.

Puppy (3 Entries – 1 Absent)

1st Silverbriar Bryony (Skye Terrier) – BPIB – PG1 – BPIS

Almost 12 months old, full of confidence and presence for her age. Feminine head with a lovely expression, well-shaped dark eye, and correctly placed ears used to advantage. Good length of neck flowing into well-laid shoulders. Strong topline held on the move. Well-ribbed with good body for age and plenty of substance without coarseness. Coat of correct texture, promising to develop well. Moved freely with purpose, showing excellent reach and drive. Stood four-square and showed with great attitude — one to watch for the future.

2nd Silverbriar Persia (Skye Terrier)

Litter sister to 1st — another very pretty puppy of similar make and shape, though not quite as sure of herself on the day. Pleasing head and expression with dark eyes and well-set ears. Just needs a little more confidence in the ring to complete the picture, but a quality youngster with much promise once maturity and experience bring her out.

Graduate (4 Entries – 1 Absent)

1st Afterglows Golden Ticket (IMP USA) – Sealyham Terrier

A Sealyham I have judged as a puppy; he has matured with the same promise and breed type he showed then. Good size for the breed with a lovely profile, low to the ground, holding his topline well on the move.

2nd Nosnibor Double or Quits – Cairn Terrier

Well-presented dog with coat just coming in. Head of good proportions with alert expression, correct scissor bite and dark eye. Just a little distracted on the move today.

3rd Gelodnea Dylan at Ventasilures – Sealyham Terrier

Open (5 Entries – 1 Absent)

1st Oakfayre’s Whiplash Weasel (Miniature Bull Terrier) – BOB – G2

One I’ve had the pleasure to judge before and still find extremely appealing — full of breed type and a pleasure to go over. Presented in pristine white coat, she sports an attractive headpiece with good expression enhanced by correct ear set and almond-shaped eye. Well-muscled, allowing her to move with drive around the ring, albeit somewhat enthusiastically!

2nd Afterglows Golden Ticket (IMP USA) – Sealyham Terrier

(Placed 1st in Graduate)

3rd Nosnibor Double or Quits – Cairn Terrier

4th Gelodnea Dylan at Ventasilures – Sealyham Terrier

1st Prince Rainbow Blue (Border Terrier) – VG1

Well-presented grizzle dog who has improved with age. In good, harsh coat with correct scissor bite. Still spannable in rib; he moved actively around the ring, holding a pleasing profile and striding out with drive. A pleasure to go over — thank you for bringing him.

2nd Cwmcoch Pollypocket (Welsh Terrier) – VG2

Placed 2nd in her breed class. Lovely rapport with her handler; the young handler’s gentle confidence made a delightful partnership to watch — a credit to both dog and child. A touching and thoroughly enjoyable exhibit that brought smiles all round.
