Handling
Judge – Tracey Anscombe
The adult handlers today really impressed me, and I was literally splitting hairs with the decisions. When judging I look for handlers with a rapport with their charges, they abide to the golden rule and have a tidy lead.
Junior Handler 6-11 4 Entries
1st Libby Rycroft – Handling a Bull Terrier – Best Junior Handler in Show
Not an easy charge today but Libby did a great job keeping her dog under control in a calm manner and completing the pattern work correctly with good lead changes. Found her shadowing very unobtrusive and she presented the teeth in a clear fashion with fingers well out of the way.
2nd Kaycee Mae Turton – Handling a Beagle
This was a very close decision, and I am sure these two very experienced and proficient handlers will change places on numerous occasions. Presentation of the dog and the teeth excellent. Could be tidier on the final finish at the end of the pattern work.
3rd Merryn Standlick – Handling a Shetland Sheepdog
Res Lula Stower – Handling a Briard
Both 3rd and 4th places were well-presented and showed their dogs to advantage. They both just need to check on where the judge is standing in the ring in order to not break the golden rule, therefore getting themselves between herself and the dog on occasion.
Junior Handler 12-16 1 Entries / 1 Absent
Adult Handler 17 - 40 4 Entries / 2 Absent
Both of these classes were lovely to judge with all the handlers are extremely experienced and this really showed today.
1st Chloe Clark – Handling a Pointer and Red Setter – Best Adult Handler in Show
Really on top form today, beautiful shadowing and tidy lead. Always aware of my presence giving clear instruction to her dog and moving at a pace best suited to present the dog. In this class she showed a pointer and then a Red Setter in the challenge for best adult handler.
2nd Stacie Nicoll – Handling an Australian Shepherd
This was a very close decision, and I know they will change places on numerous occasions. Presentation of the dog and the teeth both excellent. Her charge was a little unsettled, but she did a great job in a calm manner.
Adult Handler 40 and over 5 Entries / 1 Absent
1st Janet Rice – Handling a Tibetan Spaniel
Such an experienced handler with an air if gracefulness when she is in the ring. Both her dogs and self are well presented and when moved are done at the correct speed for the breed. Beautiful shadowing and lead management. When in the challenge for best adult handler she put in an extra step when doing her T. This was so close that is all it came down to.
2nd Naomi Jackman – Handling a Dandy Dinmont Terrier
Had a lovely rapport with her dog and presented and moved it well. Good clean presentation of the teeth when asked and repositioning on the table. Pattern and shadowing were good but could be tighter in corners.
3rd Tristian Rycroft – Handling a Pointer
Res Michelle Jones – Handling a Schipperke
This was such a close class, and I am sure they will all exchange places in the future. Today I felt that 1 and 2 just had the edge on their pattern work and shadowing, but 3 and 4th both presented their dogs well and completed the required pattern work satisfactory. A reminder when asked to show the teeth both the sides and front should be presented and ring awareness.
