Taunton and District CA Open Show 14 and 15th June 2025

Show Reports Day 1 and Day 2

This two-day Open Show provided a typical celebration of canine excellence. The Committee and Officers impeccably organised it throughout with clear scheduling, working tirelessly in preparation and throughout this very busy week-end. They created a welcoming atmosphere for everyone. The quality of dogs across all groups was impressive for which I had the honour of adjudicating Best In Show.

Best In Show

Stanbury's Belgian Shepherd Dog (Tervueren) Ch HRV Ch Domburg By Appointment At Woodbriar SH Ex. D. Produces such a stunning profile. Alert and attentive. Fabulous head and mask. Moved effortlessly, with an accurate light action. Presented in amazing condition.

Reserve Best In Show

Salmon's Spaniel (Cocker) Crimicar Blu Diamond. B. Feminine and so balanced throughout, feminine head. Well proportioned. She moved with reach and drive just flowing around the ring with an ever wagging tail.

Best Puppy In Show

Smith's Alaskan Malumute, Snowshoes Sweet Symphony, B. Balanced outline with substance. Most attractive feminine head with dark expressive eyes. Neck of correct length and moderate front assembly. Tidy hocks aided accurate purposeful movement. Loved her temperament!

Reserve Best Puppy In Show

Mignano-Fricker & Fricker's Jack Russell Terrier, Moorbell Moon and Stars Over Calavey (Imp ITA). D. Eye-catching puppy with a balanced skull containing appealing dark eyes. Cobby body and clearly full of quality. Holds a secure level back with well set tail, carried well. A real show off!

Wynter's Fox Terrier (Wire), Ch Robelroy Many Dreams at Furlongfox ShCEx. D. Have judged him before and he never fails to impress. Of super type and shown in good coat and condition. Head portrays typical expression. Well proportioned. Purposeful accurate mover.

Best Reserve Best of Breed In Show

Caldicott's Aritaur Cirilla With Philmont JW. Dobermann. B. Well-constructed and elegant. Super head. Lovely reach of neck and well sprung ribs. Strong straight parallel front legs with balanced rear angulations aided effortless reach and drive.

Afghan Hound

Graduate 4,1

1. Vargen's Alphaville's It's So Easy (Imp Swe), D. 11 months and promising. Nicely proportioned. His head, eye and underjaw were pleasing. Ample length to neck; smooth shoulders set well under. Strong feet and short hocks aided positive movement which gave him the edge in the challenge. BP & BOВ.

2. Godber-Ford's Affynetta Desert Wind, D. 5 years. Nicely balanced head, leading to a long enough neck. OK for front angulation. Pleasing outline and well angulated rear.

3. Bovey's Sitana Infinity Stone At Shimonay.

Open 1 1. Godber-Ford's Affynetta Mountain Breeze, D. 5 years. Litter brother to 2nd in Graduate. Again a nicely proportioned head with strong jaw. Balanced body. OK for neck. Presented in good condition. OK forehand; strong rear drive. RBOB.

2. Carter's Gouvier Espresso Martini JW D. 3 years. Lovely character. Masculine Head. Compact in build. Not the topline or forehand of 1. Strong action from well angulated hindquarters. In super condition.

1. Quantick's Parkebreeway Rumour. D. 16 months Tri. Maturing nicely and of good breed type. Impressive well-proportioned head. Well placed neck of good length. Neat secure front assembly; correct feet. Strong topline. Correct tail set. Super mover. RBOB.

2. Barrow's Redcap Pretty Women at Maganjin. B. 21 months. I liked her a lot. Excels in size, overall proportions. Pleasing head with such a kind expression. Enough neck, firm topline, deep chest and good tail set and carried well. She was unsure on the move which was a pity.

3. Wojcik-Kalamus's Askel Mellow.

Barrow's Rosanka Sky Meganjin, B. 4 years. Very appealing head, which is correctly balanced giving such a kind expression. Nice type all through. Level topline, deep chest and well ribbed. She moved particularly well demonstrating both reach and drive which gave her the nod over 2.

2. Breeze's Dufosee Honestly Of Parkebreeway. B. 22 months. Another with a feminine head. Good for muzzle and bite. Low set ears. Ample length of neck. Deep chest and well sprung ribs. Secure topline. Well set tail. Close call.

3. Wojcik-Kalamus's Askel Mellow.

1. Scarlett's Vanitonia Enchanted Over Michelroy JW. B. 20 months. Impressive tricolour. Her balanced headpiece contains super eyes giving a melting expression coupled with strength and breath of muzzle. Firm topline. Her hindquarters were well developed being of ample width and depth. Her topline was secure, good ratio of brisket to elbow. Moved really well and attentive to handler at all times. BOВ.

2. Barrow's Redcap Knucklebones At Meganjin. B. 3 1/2. She produces a balanced outline but is carrying a tad too much weight. Super coat. Loved her head and expression. Correct ear set and bite. Shoulders well laid back; secure topline. Moved OK.

1. Thomas, Datta and Pinkerton's Menigma Stay With Me at Rockyhill. B. 13 months. I thought her most promising. Shapely throughout. I admired her head for proportions and expression. She has a an impressive front with chest developing. OK for neck. correct topline. Well angulated rear angulations which aided impressive light movement. BOВ.

2. Umfreville's Stubbylee Penderyn At Voyshka. D. 1 year old and was completely overalled so therefore restricted my examination to an absolute minimum. He is of a lovely shape and size.

1.Umfreville's Barnesmore Betelguese At Voyshka. D. 4 years. Well balanced classic head but would prefer ears a tad smaller. Elegant, classic, neck. Stands well. Hindquarters are well muscled. Good feet. OK forehand. Super Coat. RBOB.

1. Carter's L-Wynd Where The Shadow Ends (Imp USA), 12 months. D. Typey red/white. Impressive when standing. Lean head, strong jaws and dentition. Ears set well. Moved very well. I thought him most promising. BOB

2. Vargen's Jeque La Princesa Rosa De Podi (Imp SVN), 8 months. D. Giving some away in maturity to 1, but clearly promising. Correct front with the right depth from narrow ribcage. Nicely angled hindquarters. Moved well for his age. RBOВ.

1.Carter's Ch Nevaeh's Radical Dude (Imp USA), B. 9 years. Exceptional for her age. Well-proportioned. Liked her head ratios. Dentition OK. Lean neck, body with correct flat ribbing. She holds a secure topline. OK rear movement.

1. Gray's Grasilva Silver Vine. B. 10 years. Presented in super condition. Head with defined stop, appealing eyes, well filled underneath. Well placed neck. Secure topline on the move. Moderate rear angulations and well set tail. Positive mover. BОВ.

1. Pope's Rozorsedge Berry Lane At Tengbull. D. 14 months. Well-conditioned young dog. Head still maturing. Dark, well-placed eyes. Ears well set. Well-constructed throughout. Sturdy front; tight, neat feet. Well angulated throughout; he moved well. RBOB

1.Pope's Villensia Pink Grapefruit At Tegenbull. B. 4 years. Screams quality. She immediately takes the eye. Beautifully balanced throughout. Head is well filled being of good length. Strong underjaw and correct bite aids typical expression. Clean neck, well-laid shoulders. Deep broad chest. Well angulated throughout with ample muscle tone results in effortless movement. BOB.

1. Marshallsay's Ch Risibully Have You Seen Her With Fergustaff JW ShCEx. В. 2 years. Fawn and White. She entered the ring as though she owned it! Head is well filled containing small dark eyes. Ears correctly on top all contributing to her super expression. Neat front assembly; tight cat feet. Short coupled body; correct spring of ribs. Solid round bone throughout. Muscular hindquarters with well-muscled second thighs. Exemplary show girl and at one with her handler at all times. BOB & G2.

1. Samson's Talyot Magnus To Silak D. 4 years. Liked his size and balance. Masculine head with super expressive eyes, correct skull, well set ears. Slight stop and good dentition. Well-conditioned. Correct for neck, topline and ribs. Well laid shoulders, straight forelegs and strong, well angulated rear. Moved very well. ВОВ.

2.Samson's Silak Never Miss A Beat, B. 2 years. Pleasing for type and balance. Feminine head with lovely eyes. Slightly arched neck of good length. Typical topline rising gently to a well-arched loin. Impressive ribcage. Well set tail. On the move she was not as settled as 1. RBОВ.

1. Harcourt-Morris's Dainty dandies Explorer At Lenacourt (imp NLD), D. 15 months. Pepper boy in lovely coat. Attractive head of balanced proportions. Well set dark eyes. Nice to examine being well made throughout. Good for ribcage and firm loins. Moving true in all directions. Lovely disposition. ВОВ.

2. Jackman's Dryfevalley Golden Lullaby At Carnkie B. 7 years. Appealing mustard bitch. She has a lovely balanced head. OK for reach of neck. Goop width in front. Well bodied. Correct topline. Steady mover. RBOB.

1. Wynter's Travella Steel A Kiss At Furlongfox. B. 2 years. Impressive and I suspect there is more to come. Beautifully presented jacket and is clearly totally fit for function. Nicely balanced throughout and of good type. Super clean front. Strong topline; correct tail set. Moved with confidence and accuracy demonstrating her clean lines. At one with her handler. BOB & G1

1.Haydon's Earthtaw Quote The Poem. B 6 months. Sweet feminine baby who showed really well. Proportioned head containing lovely eyes. Good length of neck leading to well laid shoulders. Great topline. For overall balance would prefer her a tad shorter coupled. On the move, she made use of her wellmade hindquarters. RBOB & BРІВ

2. Mullan's Watercroft Maybellene At Tamodan, B. Another with a very pretty feminine head. Good for neck and body. Liked her tail set and carriage. She moved steadily in all directions. Coat needs attention. Close call.

Deep chest, and wide rear. In excellent jacket. Moved smartly with accuracy and determination, and at all times holding her impressive outline. BOB.

2. Skudder & Caley's Les Huit Hadrien Del Colle Di Ottone (Imp ITA) TAF. D. 7 months. Another promising youngster. Head is balanced and contains expressive eyes; good dentition. Ears well set. Overall balanced in outline. OK for length of neck. Secure level topline. Tail set on well. Steady mover. RBOB, BPIB and PG4.

3. Cotton's Celmereva Tale As Old As Time.

1. Mayers's Maynestaff Smooth Criminal JW. D. Impressive black brindle. Strong masculine headpiece, prounced cheek muscles and dark eyes. Well set rose ears all adding to his keen expression. Another with a correct front. Tight feet. Good spring of rib. Well-muscled hindquarters demonstrated in his strong drive on the move. BOB & G4

2. Squibb's Sikaistaff Coz I'm Happy B. 4 years. Lots to like in this dark brindle female. Liked her body proportions. Soundly constructed. Good for neck and topline. Well angulated hindquarters. Moved freely.

2. Thomson's Marlablue Smile and Wave At Ashgate. B. 7 months old. She is of and excellent shape with short back and good top-line and tail set. Her head proportions are super, portraying femininity. Moved so confidently for her age. Will strengthen in rear. Pressed 1 hard. BPIВ AVNSC.

1. Warner's Talanors Time For Fun ShCEx. Manchester Terrier, D. Now 61/2 years and judged him a few years ago. I was delighted to see he has gained his title. Presented in fine order. Head has an impressive wedge and correct scissor bite. Well set ears. Super colour and complementary markings. This well balanced dog moved with accuracy and purpose. Best AVNSC Terrier.

2. Samson & Crawley's Ragus Pearl Maiden, 9 months. Norwich Terrier B. Giving a lot away in maturity to 1 but clearly is a very nice example of the breed. Well-made all through with good overall balance. Head of good breadth. Well laid shoulders. Good length and spring of ribcage. Short in loin. Strong hindquarters with well-turned stifles. Should do well. Reserve Best AVNSC Terrier.

2. Mayson’s Gorsebern Water Lilies. B. 11 months. Produces a balanced shape. Liked her eyes and expression. She has enough neck. Ample width of chest. Rear movement to strengthen. Lovely temperament. RBOB, BPIB.

1. Horton & Williams’s Gertlush Polished Ebony. B. 3 years. Another nice one. Light brindle, pleasing in type, strong but feminine in head; good for muzzle and bite. Ideal neck. Balanced on the stand. Excellent rear angulations. OK front. Close call between two very nice exhibits.

1. Smart’s Birkcross She’s Embracing at Shamiraland. B. 19 months. Won a very mixed class on her balance of body and overall shape. Good for temperament. Attractive head. Lengthy neck. Shoulder is quite well laid and she is well ribbed. Secure in topline. Nicely angulated. Best mover in the class.

2. Scanlan’s Sparkaway Jeepers Creepers Of Franmar B. 8 months and very promising. Scores in outline and shape. Feminine but not without substance. Head still to develop; good ear set. Pleasing reach of neck set well into shoulders, Firm top line. Steady mover. BPIB.

1. Carter’s Matley’s Dreamchaser Final Fling With Karmeliann (Imp CAN), B. 14 months. Correct proportions for her age. Nicely proportioned head with dark eyes giving the desired expression. Enough neck into well placed shoulders and upper arm. Correct balance of depth of chest to leg length. Moved very well.

A really challenging class to adjudicate today.

1. Axford’s Bramblemead Bollinger Boy JW, D. 2 years. Presented in super coat and condition. Head has a broad flat skull and portrays typical expression. Body is well ribbed; strong loin and broad thighs. I liked his turn of stifle which produced effective movement. Attentive at all times and was presented in lovely coat. BOB

2. Glasspool and Gray’s Ungaro De Chester (Imp FRA), D. 2 years. Handsome youngster. Engaging eyes giving typical masculine expression. Good for neck. Pleasing leg length with plenty of air under his body, but would prefer him a shorter coupled. Well-made in front angulations and hindquarters. Moved well. RBOB.

2. Hewett’s Serenlas Edge Of Heaven. B. 15 months. Pleasing head and expression but in this respect, felt 1 just had the edge here. Good neck and shoulders and depth of chest; ample bone. Good feet. Steady on the move. Close call.

1. Baker’s Serenlas Black Magic. D 3 years. Clean head giving a kind expression. Carries his ears and uses them well. Arched neck into well laid shoulders. In super coat and condition. Moved very well. BOB.

Balanced head of good length with dark eyes. She uses her well placed ears to advantage. Good neck and level topline, balanced body of good length. Well angulated throughout which produced impressive movement. Pushed hard in the Challenge. RBOB.

2. Rodger’s Blamorder High Brow (TAF). B. 4 years. Balanced bone and of good construction. Preferred the head of 1. Well placed neck into good shoulders. Correct for neck and body. In excellent coat. Moved well.
