Ross & Cromerty Canine Club 26th April 2025

Many thanks to the committee of this club for the welcome and hospitality offered at the show. It was a long day and we made it to about the last few classes before the heavens opened, many thanks to all the exhibitors who entered under me and accepting my placings on the day.

 Italian Spinone (4, 0a)

1st Mackay, Mr Gavin & Mrs D, Testaverdi Deal or No Deal, Masculine in appearance, of good size and with strong bone. Typical in head, with good depth to his muzzle. Well placed shoulder showing good layback, well-muscled rear. He held his topline as he moved freely around the ring. BOB

2nd Duncan Mrs Susan, Diggmere Tiger Swallowtail JW, over all slightly heavier in appearance than one, many of the same attributes as one, but for me he was just a shade heavier in movement.

3rd Lawton Mr & Mrs, Quebaikei Accossato for Oaklaw

Retriever (Flat Coated) Open (10, 1a)

1st Thomson Caroline, Sh Ch Caci’s the Dream Catcher Badcall, a well-balanced boy of good size, head long and moulded well, correct in skull both flat and moderately broad, long in neck set well into shoulders, deep in chest with well defined brisket, ribs flat and well ribbed, good in loin hindquarters strong and muscular, free flowing in movement true fore and aft, BOB

2nd Mackessack-Leitch Mrs F, Badcall Midwinter Dream at Inchstellie.  still a youngster but developing nicely, correct in head with nice mouldings, good length of neck, balanced in body, level in topline, rear developing well moved steadily with handler.

Gordon Setter Open (4, 2a)

1st Munro Mr & Mrs L & E, Hernwood Northern Adonis of Dalmuar, 8-year-old boy, presented a well-rounded picture of a mature well-muscled Gordon, he had good length from hip to hock, he moved out with such drive he covered the ground effortlessly. BOB

2nd Smith Mrs B & W, Myreside Nianh with Clacorick, Feminine in appearance, not able to get over her, would have preferred better tan, but she moved well.

English Setter Post Graduate (1, 0a)

1st Martin Mr J, F, Bournehouse Chequered Flag. 14-month boy, still growing, but this was his first show so needs to settle. Moved out ok 

English Setter Open (2, 0a)

1st Johnston W, Wansleydale Beguiled of Loonbrae.  Overall, a pleasing picture, with typical head, shoulders set well back, level topline, moved well driving from rear, pleased to see correct feet type. BOB

2nd Thomson K, Muirsett Morganite for Caspellwynd, another boy of good type and size, again topline held on the move, unfortunately he was a little unsettled today.

Spaniel (Cocker) Graduate (6, 0a)

1st Carmichael J & A Bulmar, Totenkopf Dutch Mirror Scry, lovely type moved best in class, lovely head and correct front, level in topline, rear good, moved with drive and presented a happy type.

2nd Rodger Ms Nicola, Ravensgreen Diura, a very happy girl of good type, balanced overall, level in topline good rear angulation moved out well.

3rd Macdonald Mr Hunter, Machunt Caledonian Girl

1st Macdonald Mr Hunter, Bartonholm Beaufort overall a picture of quality, good in head with correct neck and shoulders, good topline and strong rear quarters moved with drive. BOB

2nd Rodger Ms Nicole, Ravensgreen Abair Iongnadh, feminine girl in good condition presented well, lovely in head, neck and shoulders, balanced in body, rear well angulated and moved well.

1st Rodger Ms Nicole, Ravensgreen Gaol Mo Cridhe, well balanced girl, of correct proportions happy outlook, good in head, neck and shoulders correct, good topline and well-muscled rear quarters, moved best in class.

2nd Macdonald Mr Hunter, Cloudhowe Bonnie Ecosse, correct in head and presented well, clean in neck into correct shoulders, level topline, strong rear, moved well.

1st McDonald, T, S, & C, Donurie’s Texas Honey Honky Tonk JW, Feminine but distinguished head, leading to well laid shoulders, straight in bone, good depth of chest, used her well-developed muscular rear on the move.

2nd McBeath Mrs S & Mr P, Roughshoot Red Hot for Redhunt, pleasing head, overall balanced in appearance, but not quite the outline of one, presented in good hard condition, pleased to see her catlike feet.

3rd Cavaye Mrs M & Mr R, Goviz Spring Tide (AI)

Hungarian Vizsla Open (2, 0a) 

1st McDonald, T, S, & C, Donurie’s Russian Roulette This girl was presented in good hard condition, which allowed her to move out with drive when on the move, typical head into well laid shoulders, straight in bone, level topline held on the move. BOB

2nd McBeath Mrs S & Mr P, Wallaroo Beyond the Horizon at Redhunt, 3-year-old boy, masculine in head but not overdone, had a tendency to turn his feet out. balanced fore & aft, not as positive on the move as one, but moved well.

1st Angus Miss A & Mr S, & Mrs, Edilmidpoint Native River Through Calmerell, 13mth old boy in really good condition, correct in head, clean neck into correct shoulders, level in topline with correctly carried tail, strong rear quarters, moved with drive and ease, BOB

2nd Robertson Miss S, Hollandmake Fieldmaster, another youngster of 13 mth, she is very feminine in looks, correct in head, clean neck into well placed shoulders level topline, correct tailset, strong rear quarters, moved well, just preferred the masculinity of 1.

Retriever (Labrador) Graduate (4, 1a)

1st Gunn Miss A, Exelby Finch, Black 15-month, masculine in head, with good strength to his neck, into well laid shoulders, deep barrel chest. Well bone, had a tendency to fly his tail on the move, but overall moved well  

2nd Lawrence Miss A, Dunnabbey Funny Girl, Chocolate girl, feminine in head but of good proportions, typical in outline with good depth to her well sprung rib. Level topline held on the move. Presented in good muscular condition.

1st Simpson Mrs A, Strathlana Black Jasper JW, A boy I have judged before and he has matured well, masculine in head, good strength to his neck, well laid shoulders, straight in bone, good width to his chest, well barrelled. Level topline, short coupled, moved well from well-muscled rear quarters. BOB

2nd Scrimgeour Miss M, Velvetine Willow, pretty feminine girl, pleasing in head, good layback of shoulder, top line straight, balanced throughout, just not as positive as 1 on the move today.

2nd Lawrence Miss A, Dunnabbey Step Outside, mature 7-year-old dog, typical in head, good neck & shoulders, level topline good tail set, moved out well, but not the best of coat today 

Pointer Open (2, 0a)

1st Fraser S, Droveborough’s Follow Me at Frenetbull, 5-year-old black & white boy, good head of medium size, good length to his neck, well placed sloping shoulders, oval straight bone, with correct hare feet. Moved out with drive. BOB

2nd Mackay Mr G & Mrs D, Sharnphilly Hot Fizz, Liver & white boy, not quite the head of one, tended to be a little wide in front coming towards me, moved out well.

AV Gundog NSC Post Graduate (5, 1a)

1st Garden Mr & Mrs B & M, Leiborschy Theano (HWV) 4-year-old girl in very good condition typical in head, straight in front with good feet, well-muscled neck into good lay back of shoulder, strong in chest with level topline with slope in croup, well developed rear, moved with good flow covering ground with strong rear driving action. Best NSC Gundog

2nd Bowley L, Gunsyn Superstitious, (Bracco) 12-month-old dog of good proportions head with all the correct arches, lean in cheeks powerful well-rounded neck, strong shoulders well-muscled and well laid back, correct oval bone up front, appearance of a square dog, well-muscled rear, he was a little unsettled today.

2nd Maclaine J & R, Greyspirit Mystique JW CJW 22 JW, (Weimaraner) 4-year-old girl, well balanced typical in head, clean and moderately long in neck, level in topline, good angulation at rear with well turned stifle, move with effortless ground covering action.

2nd Macdonald Mr Hunter, Machunt Caledonian Girl, (Cocker Spaniel) 10 Mth old girl presented well, more settled than earlier in the day, well developed in skull, moderate in neck, well boned front, compact in body good bend of stifle, moved with drive.

Duff Mr D & Mrs A, Ir Ch Titanbears Vainglorious JW, SHCEX, OSW. (Newfoundland) This boy caught my eye on entering the ring, broad & masculine in head, dark almond shaped eye, good reach of a strong muscular neck. Compact body for one so powerful, level topline which he held on the move, impressive on the move, driving from his well-muscled rear, with the hint of a roll.  Shown with correct dense coat. Standing on his well-rounded catlike feet.

Reserve Best in Show

Crawford Mrs P, Ch Mistyholly More Magic for Louiston. (Aus Shepherd) Close decision between these dogs, blue merle bitch, belaying her 7 years, she was so well balanced, but with an alert expression, so feminine & typical in head. Clean neck, into well laid shoulders. Straight bone, chest deep and level topline held as she flowed free and easy round the ring.

Richie Mrs G, Cheolview Wallace (Lhasa Apso) Well balanced for one so young, pleasing head with falling furnishings, well-constructed, with ribs coming well back. Catlike feet, well padded, moved happily round the ring.

Moir Mrs R, Struanmore May Queen, (Skye Terrier) Long but powerful, in head ear fringing coming along, slightly arched neck into broad shoulders, quite a depth to his chest already, moved out and back soundly with a free and easy stride.

1st Wilson Miss A, Inveralicia Benrinnes, (Rottweiler) Feminine head, but still broad, long well laid-back shoulders, good straight bone, with a deep chest. Good spring to her rib. Straight strong topline. Correct coat texture, moved positively, holding her topline on the move.

2nd Emery Mrs M & Mr M, Kontrastas Huntsman White Von Navajos, (White Swiss Shepherd) Suggested power, head proportionate to body, fine chiselling noticeable in the head, presented a balanced picture, straight bone, muscled rear, good drive from the rear on the move.
