Cambuslang Canine Club

Breed: Retriever (Golden)

Cambuslang Canine Club Open Show – 22nd February 2025

Golden Retrievers

Thank you to the committee of Cambuslang Canine Club for the invitation to judge Golden Retrievers at this well-run show. Many thanks to stewards Valerio & Pam for their assistance and to the exhibitors for the opportunity to assess their lovely dogs. The quality of the entry was high though there were a number of exhibits who were, for me, carrying too much weight, affecting movement and influencing the placings. Dentition was good with one exception, an undershot bite, and temperament appeared exemplary in all the exhibits.

1.Campbell & Robertson’s MILLIEMAGS SHE'S A RAINBOW. 11 month’s bitch who has a sweet feminine head and soft expression with good pigment. Nicely proportioned all through with adequate bone and neat feet. Neck of good length into well laid shoulders and return of upper arm placing forelegs well under body. She has a level topline, is short coupled and has correct tailset. Hindquarters well-muscled with good bend of stifle. Blonde coat of good texture. Moved well displaying a happy disposition. Closest decision of the day but ultimately won the class on more mature steady movement compared to that of the minor puppy. 2.‍‍‍‍ ‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍McGuffie’s AURISTELA CLARK GABLE. 6 month’s on the day this lovely dog puppy was very much the baby of the class. A promising puppy just oozing quality and breed type. Most endearing head and expression with the darkest of pigment and kind dark eyes. Super body proportions with no exaggerations. Good bone and well padded cat-like feet. Correctly angulated forequarters and hindquarters. He has a level topline, which he held on the move with correct tail carriage. Shown in mid-gold well presented coat. 3. ‍‍‍‍‍McCormack’s FLYNGALEE TOPSY TURVY

1.Young & Grady’s THORNYWAIT BRING IT BACK GLENRIOCH. 14 month’s exuberant young dog with super balanced outline. Just shouts breed type. Well off for bone with well padded feet. He has a masculine head with no hint of coarseness; kind dark eye with a mischievous glint. Strong muscular neck into well laid shoulders and corresponding return of upper arm, placing forelegs well under body and elbows close fitting. Plenty of forechest and good depth to well sprung ribs. He is short coupled and has a spirit level topline with tail straight off the back carried level on the move. Well bent stifles with hocks well let down. Rich golden coat in lovely condition and texture. He moves soundly with good reach and drive once settled but gives his handler much to do to control his enthusiasm – got better with each lap of the ring. BEST OF BREED and delighted he was later awarded GUNDOG GROUP 3. ‍‍ ‍‍ ‍‍‍‍2.Purdie’s THORNYWAIT BRING ME LUCK. Actually ‘unlucky’ today to meet her litter brother. On first lap of the ring thought she may be the class winner. Same remarks apply to her as far as construction goes. Loved her body proportions, a picture of balance and symmetry. She has strength in her head, perhaps a tad more than I would prefer in a bitch, with good dark points. Also gave her handler a challenge to control her enthusiasm. Liked this young bitch a lot, but the winner had the edge on movement today. 3. Officer‘s RIGERIN HIGH HOPES

‍‍‍‍‍‍ G (7, 3 Abs) 1. Tait’s STRATHLON HERE COMES THE SUN AT MUCKHART JW. 2 year old male of nice type with very compact outline. His head is unmistakably masculine but with a particularly soft and kindly expression and darkest points. Well set on neck of moderate length. Straight front and good width of forechest. Excellent bone and well padded neat feet. Well angulated front and rear assembly. Ribs nicely sprung, short coupled with strong level topline maintained on the move. Hocks well let down. Moved steadily, straight and true with correct footfall. Ideally, I would like him to be a little bigger all over, nevertheless I liked him a lot. ‍‍2. Macleod’s BLUEBRAES BIDEY IN AT ROCAMAR. Larger framed male of 20 months who is maturing well – close up to 1. He presents a pleasing balanced profile. Lovely typical masculine head with dark pigment and alert, happy expression. Clean muscular neck of good length leading into well laid shoulders with upper arm of equal length placing forelegs well under body. Well boned and standing on cat-like feet. His topline is firm and level with correct tailset and he moves with good reach and drive. He was carrying his tail a little high, spoiling his outline on the move, which influenced his placing. ‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍3. Harper’s TULLOCHMOHR RAY OF SUNSHINE AT GLYNERVA JW

‍‍‍‍‍‍ O (7, 2 Abs) 1.Middlemiss & Brown’s HARMARJOY YOU'RE MY LOVE JW Eye-catching male of 22 months who has a very balanced outline. Strongly considered for BOB. Pleasing head with melting expression and excellent pigmentation. He is free from exaggerations with well angulated forehand assembly, straight front and good amount of forechest. He has well bent stifles, short neat rear pasterns and stands on well padded feet. Well sprung ribs, short coupled and strong level topline held on the move with correct tail carriage. Shown in well-presented blonde coat of good texture. Moved steadily, straight and true with correct footfall and attentive to handler.‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍2. McCormack’s FLYNGALEE BUSY BOO‍‍‍‍‍‍. 2 year old nicely proportioned bitch, not overdone in any way. She has an attractive feminine head with dark points.‍‍‍‍‍ Reachy neck leading to well laid shoulders, ribs well sprung. ‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍Strong level topline and correct tailset. Strongly muscled hindquarters and well bent stifles with hocks well let down. She moves out well with good rear drive holding her topline, though I preferred the front movement of the winner today. Shown in mid gold well-prepared coat. Expertly handled. 3.Wallis’s BLUE GEMSTONE KATRINA AT CAMELLIS
