Coventry & District Gundog Society

Coventry & District Gundog Show

2nd March 2025

Many thanks to the committee for the invite at their well-run show. The three breeds had good numerical entries; I had lovely quality dogs in the classes, and I was very pleased with all my line-ups in the breed. Thank you to my steward who kept the ring moving.

English Setters

Class Puppy (4,1)

1st Welburn, Oshowa Love to Dream, an 11-month bitch, presented a balanced outline and a feminine head with pretty expression. She has good reach to her neck and flows nicely into well-laid shoulders. Topline level and held on the move, she needs to drop and fill in her chest, but that only comes with maturity, a silky coat, and steady but true movement with great tail action. BPIB

2nd Szal , Goldbirch Northern Jazz, proper baby, loving his day out, well off for bone and substance, masculine head with a soft expression, good reach of neck, sitting into well-laid shoulders. He possesses excellent body proportions; we'll watch him develop. He handled the movement with ease. Happy boy.

3rd Williams, Goldbirch Northern Disco

Junior (4,2)

1st Oshowa Just a Dream, litter sister to puppy winner, lots of the same remarks; she has a very feminine expression, long neck and well-constructed front, topline level and tail set well off her back, straight front and shown in a silky coat. She just needs to drop in stifle, moved well in class, was just a little overexcited in the challenge and had to give way to her sister.

2nd Stead, Ravensett illusionist of Settavista, 13-month male, masculine head, deep brisket and ribs well sprung, moderate rear angulations with adequate width to the 2nd thigh. I would appreciate a slight increase in neck length. He moved with a good stride and a good front reach.

Postgraduate (2,1)

1st Hutchinson & Dennis, Mariglen My Heart Will Go On With Monaysbridge JW, who is 18 months old, is a lovely girl with an elegant outline, ample neck reach, well-placed shoulders, a level topline, and a good tailset. Rear quarters were moderately angulated. I liked her a lot, but in the challenge, she lost grip on the floor, and her movement suffered. RBOB

Open (5,3)

1st Loakes & Romeo-Dieste, Mature orange belton boy , so well-constructed, he has a masculine head with a kind expression, a long neck and a super fore chest and front construction. Deep, though rib cage and well-angled rear quarters. He moved steady and very soundly. Lovely lashing tail which he carried correctly. BOB was pleased to hear he was shortlisted for BIS.

Pointers

Puppy (3,1)

1st Oddie, Dyer & Erskine, Sharnphilly Elsie Mo To Riowood, L&W what a delightful puppy! She is so balanced and has a series of curves, a picture of femininity. Head with the desired dish appearance, kind eyes, and balanced angles fore and aft, Good tail set and short bee sting tail. Stands on the best feet, moved exceptionally well for a puppy, and will watch her mature with interest. BP & RBOB

2nd Stilgoe & Fox, Teisgol O&W Sweet William, I very much liked this male puppy: lovely curvy shape on stack, good reach of neck, straight front, and deep through chest; it just needs ribs to fill out and a nicely angulated rear. He had a lovely expression. Moved well.

Yearling (5)

1st O’Neil, Tenshilling Shboom, B& W male, very much liked him on my initial look. He has a stylish, balanced outline and a desired series of curves; he was shown in the best muscular condition, and that showed in his movement, which was free-flowing with drive, and the topline was true on the move. Handsome head with a clean neck. Still has some maturing to do in body, but I couldn’t deny him BOB today.

2nd Oddie, Riowod Tick Tick Boom To Sharnphilly, another lovely bitch from this kennel , super shape on stack , curves and lissom appearance, pretty expression, good reach to neck and well laid shoulders , correct underline and well angulated rear. Good front reach just not as positive in rear movement today.

3rd Stilgoe & Fox, Teisgol Alohomara

Graduate (5,3)

1st Booth, Lundgarth Jubilee JW, O&W she is a favourite of mine, utterly feminine but not lacking substance. She has desired curves and angles, a beautiful head, and an expression. She performs well on the move ; I would just like to see a little more reach and drive. She possesses these qualities and simply needs the confidence to demonstrate them.

2nd Brooksmith , Nightgold Pipkin, liked the head on this girl, desired dish appearance, and had a good reach to her neck. Straight front and correct underline. Well-muscled in rear quarters, just moved a tad close behind today.

Postgraduate (3)

1st Brooksmith, Millpoint Golden Pippin JW, a quality bitch, with a stylish outline, good depth to the chest, and a typey head with a soft expression. Straight front. She stands on good feet and was the best mover in the class, demonstrating excellent foot placement.

2nd Guy, Carofel Wings Of Hope JW, a bitch shown in the best muscular condition of the day, feminine head, kind expression, fine ear leathers She has ample reach to neck, straight front and good bone. Not quite as tight at elbows as first, she has lovely rear quarters with good bend of stifle. moved with reach and drive.

3rd Robson, Codnorhawk Dinky Stta At Bradgate

Open Dog (3,1)

1st Philo, Sunhouse Black Is Back At Salmonmist JW (AI) B&W, not changed my impression of this well-made male, masculine head, good reach of neck, substance and stylish appearance, super feet and bee sting tail set correctly of back, I would just like a little more depth of chest. He moves with power and is true in footfall.

2nd Webb, Tenshilling Jimmy Mack JW , another really lovely boy, had a stylish, curvy outline on the stack, was well-muscled all through, had good chest depth, loved his head, and had a desired dish appearance. He needed a bigger ring to show his movement.

Open Bitch (4)

1st Webb, Sh Ch Tenshilling The Wanderer: a good outline on the stack, with a curvy appearance, substance, and style. Deep through the chest with the correct spring of rib, a long neck with a super front, and ample fore chest. She was true on the move, showing free-flowing movement and enough drive.

2nd Stilgoe & Fox , Teisgol Snow Queen , I was spoilt in class another quality bitch , she has good depth of chest and strong rear quarters and would like a slightly better turn of stifle, but she was super on the move, with good reach and drive , with correct tail action.

3rd Booth , Lundgarth Everest JW

Gordon Setters

Puppy (4,1)

1st Marsh , Kilnrae Back To The Future, 11 month bitch , maturing nicely , feminine but with substance , balanced in angulation fore and aft, well-muscled rear quarters which she used well on the move, very true and moved well for a puppy. Shown in good coat .

2nd Poynter, Poynter & Collins Pitman, giving his handler a tough time, he has loads of potential. well off for bone. He looks to have super angulation behind, but it's difficult to assess properly as he was having a great time. I am sure he will settle and will have a bright future.

3rd Clark, DJ BeeBlack Ivy (Imp Pol )

Junior (7,3)

1st Halliday, Hero Majestic Manon Lescaut Yennadon (Imp CZe) a boy I have judged as a puppy, nice size and shown in good muscular condition. He has a well-developed fore chest and well-laid shoulders; his tail is set well of back; he has tidy feet and moves with confidence , steady and true holding his topline level. Nicely handled.

2nd Warren Benbuie Comanche , decent shape on stack and balance in angles front and rear , good bend of stifle with depth to chest , masculine head , little deep in muzzle for me but kind expression , moves okay, just a little close behind.

3rd Marsh , Kilnrae Back To The Future

Postgraduate (5, 2)

1st Sandiford, Sandiford & Mazzeo, Elegant picture on the stack, feminine head , dark eye, low-set ears and long neck, level topline and good turn of stifle. She was well-muscled and moved well, liked her tail action, and held her topline on the move RBOB.

2nd Whiting, Locksheath April In Paris , presented a decent outline on the stack, deep chest and ribbed well back , little narrow in front , shown in a good coat and moved okay , just a little proud of her tail.

3rd Wood, Pipruda Jubilarian

1st Halliday, Ch Yennadon Barra JW SGWC, another correctly constructed and super sound dog; nothing is overdone in this male. He is a nice overall size, with a deep chest, well-sprung ribs, and a strong neck that sits smoothly into his shoulders. On the move, he holds his level topline and uses his well-muscled rear quarters well. Shown in a nice coat and handled well. Pleased to award him BOB.
