Open Show

23rd February 2025

My thanks to the club for the invitation to judge my first Gundog breeds, and to all of the exhibitors who gave me a lovely entry to go over and took all my placings with good sportsmanship, congratulating winners in every class. Thanks also to my two stewards who did a great job in the difficult (windy) conditions!

Pointer

Some feet were a little round and I felt that fronts in some were a little upright. The weather conditions were not favourable for this breed today.

Puppy (0)

Junior (2, 1)

1st – Kennedy, Miss S. Droveborough’s Hells Bells. 12 month old bitch. Good head with nice muzzle and correct dish shape. Broad skull. Nice length of neck. Good angulation front and rear, moved well.

Post Graduate (4, 2)

1st – Welch, Mrs S. Hookwood Starman JW. Overall, a well built dog, giving the impression of strength. Good masculine head with wide nostrils, correct ears. Good length of neck with a nice arch. Nice width and depth to chest, with brisket reaching to the elbows. Good angulation and moved with a smooth, ground covering gait and lashing tail. RBOB

2nd – Barham, Mrs L J. Alozia Zephyrne. Nice feminine head, with wide nostrils. Nicely arched neck. Would prefer a slightly deeper chest and wasn’t moving with much enthusiasm today (possibly due to the cold conditions).

Open (5, 2)

1st – Welch, Drake and Hazeltine, Mrs S, Mrs J and Miss C. Clamerkin Jubilee Surprise at Hookwood JW. Lovely feminine head with aristocratic expression, nice wide nostrils, correct dish-shape to the muzzle and pronounced occiput. Good forechest and depth of brisket, with good tuck up to loin. Good angulation, which she used well on the move, moving with good strides and animation. Definitely one with a lissom appearance and graceful curves! BOB, and delighted to see her go G3 in a strong Gundog Group.

2nd – Barham, Mrs L J. Drovebrorough’s Mocha Mayhem. Larger in type than 1st, but everything in proportion. Good dish shape to head, wide nostrils. Good depth to the brisket. Moved well, but would prefer the head carriage to be a little higher.

3rd – Welch, Maber and Hazeltine, Mrs S, Miss L and Miss C. Sarnphilly Toggi with Hookwood JW
