Great Harwood Agricultural Society

Breed: Boston Terrier

Great Harwood Open Show, 26th May 2025

Thank you to the Officers and Committee for inviting me to judge Boston Terriers at their open show, and thank you to my very efficient ring steward Lucy for keeping the classes running smoothly. I would also like to thank the exhibitors for bringing their lovely dogs under me. The weather conditions were windy but dry, and the ground was uneven in places.

BOSTON TERRIERS

P (2,0) 1ST Ms Wildman & Davis’ Wildax Rowendale Krispy Kreme, a 7 month old brindle and white bitch, she presents a balanced outline and has a pretty feminine expression, round dark eyes, pleasing earset and short square muzzle, with tight flews. She has a straight front, neat feet and a good turn of stifle. Her slightly arched neck leads down to well placed shoulders, and her ribs and chest are developing as befits her age. She has a level topline which she maintained on the move when she settled. I was pleased to award her BP and delighted to hear she went UPG1 later in the day.

2nd Miss Barclay’s Marann’s Man of Mystery at Claymurf, a 9 month old seal brindle and white dog with a masculine headset, flat cheeks and wrinkle free skull, with dark eyes and good width of jaw. His ribs and chest are also developing, and his front is straight and he has good shoulder placement. He was reluctant to use his ears today and his movement was hard to assess at times, as unfortunately the ground was very uneven in places.

J (2,0) 1st Ms Wildman & Davis’ Canmoy’s Boston Coco Pops at Wildax Rowendale (imp Fin) a 13 month old brindle and white male of larger type, he oozes ring confidence and presents a striking balanced outline. His head is square and in proportion, with correct ear set and good width and depth to muzzle. He used his ears to advantage at all times, and has an intelligent glint in his eyes. He is well boned, and has a straight front, good depth of chest, is well ribbed and has moderate angulation front and rear. He maintained his level topline and moved and was handled well.

2nd Mrs Bamford’s Windust Shining Light, just out of puppy this black and white bitch was a bit shivery on the table, which could have been down to the windy conditions. She has a nicely balanced outline, and a short smooth gleaming coat. She has a square feminine headset and dark round eyes, with a kind feminine expression. Her front is straight and she has tight pasterns, a good turn of stifle and hocks well let down. She is developing in rib and chest, just lost out on maturity to 1st place.

PG (1,0) 1st Miss Scott’s Boston Abbey Nico for Claymurf, coming up to 2 years old, this brindle and white dog was lively and determined but has a wonderful relationship with his young handler, who presented him very well indeed. He has a strong masculine head, and a glint of naughtiness in his dark round eyes. He has a straight front and good depth of chest, ribs are carried well back and he has strong muscular thighs. He is a tad long but moved well when settled.

O (5,2) 1st Mrs Schfaild’s Vickvally Miss Chicago Soul, a 15 month old bitch with a beautiful brindle and white short smooth coat on her compact frame. Square and balanced in outline, she has a lovely feminine expression, dark round eyes, wide black nose, good depth and width to muzzle, a square jaw with tight flews and excellent pigment. Her ears are small and well placed, and her skull is flat and smooth between. She has a slight arch to her neck which is well set into her shoulders. She has a straight front and tight pasterns, neat feet and good depth of chest. Her topline is level and was maintained on the move. She has a good turn of stifle, hocks are well let down and her rump curves down to her well set tail. She demonstrated graceful movement despite the terrain and I was pleased to award her BOB. I was informed after judging that she has now gained her Junior Warrant, congratulations.

2nd Miss Barclay’s Ch Jabbari Golden Image at Claymurf (Imp Zaf), at 7 years old this lovely brindle and white bitch does not give her age away at all, she was very alert and had a determined glint in her dark round eyes. Her head is in proportion and she has plenty of cushioning on her deep wide muzzle. Her neck flows into well laid shoulders, and she has good depth of chest, ribs well sprung and showing good muscle tone throughout. She moved well in all directions, at one with her handler.
