LIVINGSTON CANINE SOCIETY OPEN SHOW 8TH JUNE 2025

I would like to thank the Officers and Committee for inviting me to judge Utilities and Best in Show. It was an honour and I had a great day going over many fabulous dogs. Thank you to Patricia and Louise my amazing ring stewards who kept the utility ring going, and to my very efficient steward in the BIS ring, apologies I did not note your name. And thank you of course to all the exhibitors who entered under me at this organised and well run show, the atmosphere ringside was friendly with great sportsmanship being displayed, it was a very enjoyable day.

POODLE (MINIATURE)

G (2,0) 1st Mrs L Wylie Silvester’s Poshdelights After Eight for Arcaneon, an 18 month old dog with a profuse black dense coat, harsh in texture and well presented. He has a masculine headset, dark eyes with an intelligent glint, well set ears of good length, a well defined chin and a strong jaw. His front is straight and he has neat small feet. His neck is of good length and he has good depth of chest and his ribs are carried well back. He has a good turn of stifle, a short back and high tailset. He was slightly close behind however he moved OK BOB

2nd Ms Mcguire’s Tatalena Supersonic, a 7 month old apricot bitch with a very pretty feminine headset. She has dark expressive almond shaped eyes, a pleasing length of muzzle, and flat cheeks. Her ears are well set with leathers of good length. She is developing in chest and rib, and has a short back, straight front and tight small feet. She was rather excitable on the move but showed good movement when she settled. Her handler would benefit from ringcraft just to boost her own confidence. 1st in Davie Laidlaw puppy stakes

TIBETAN SPANIEL

J (2,1) 1ST Miss L Duncan’s Susu Appley Ever After, a delightful 9 month old dog, very well presented by his young handler. He has a gold sable coat with a black mask, expressive dark oval eyes, his skull is slightly domed and his muzzle is blunt with plenty of cushioning. He has well placed ears of medium size, and his coat is correct for his age. He has a balanced profile, with moderate bone, well laid shoulders, a level back and a high set tail. His movement was quick and free, and the relationship he has with his handler is so lovely to see, they clearly adore each other. BOB, 1st AV Utility Puppy, Utility Group 2 & Reserve Best Special Puppy in Show. From the cheers from the ringside, I gather he gained his final JW point today, congratulations.

O (4,2) 1st Mrs Campbell’s Tulibell Bad Habits JW, a 3 year old fawn sable bitch with a black mask. She has dark oval eyes with a bright and alert expression, good length of muzzle and a defined stop. Her ears are pendant and well feathered. She has moderate bone and small neat hare feet, well laid shoulders and a level back. Her tail is high set and she moved well.

2nd Mrs Campbell’s Tulibell at Hogwarts JW ShCM, a gold sable bitch with a black mask and just a sprinkle of silver, at 9 years old she was a delight to go over, and such a showgirl. Her dark oval eyes are bright and expressive, her ears are high set and pendant, she has a blunt muzzle of good depth and width, and she carried her head proudly at all times. In profile she is small and balanced. She has good spring of rib and well laid shoulders, a level back and a high set well plumed tail. She moved very well and was well handled. 2nd in AV Utility Veteran

SHIH TZU

O (1,0) 1ST Pope, Smith & Smith’s Shidizzle Bryamzy Sue at Maskeen, a 17 month old gold and white bitch with a broad round well furnished head and feminine expression. She has large dark round eyes, a short square muzzle, a well-placed black nose and large ears with long leathers. She has a sturdy frame, with a nicely arched neck leading down to well placed shoulders. She has depth and width to her chest, a level topline and a heavily plumed tail carried over her back. She moved soundly showing her pads. BOB

JAPANESE SHIBA INU

O (2,1) 1ST Mrs Best-Rawlings’ Akiruno Giyu Del Cazadora Blanca at Trixwood (Imp NLD), a 2 year old black and tan dog with an alert expression. He has a broad skull, small dark eyes set well apart, a straight tapering muzzle, good pigment and tight lips. He is small and well balanced, with a slight arch to his neck. His shoulders slope moderately and his elbows are in close, he has a short loin and level topline. He is well muscled throughout, with a strong second thigh and slight bend to his stifle. He has a thick high set tail carried curled over his back, and tight feet. His front movement was a bit untidy. BOB

LHASA APSO

G (1,0) 1ST Dr & Mr Logan’s Spyanki Eobard Thawne JW, a 2 year old gold dog in good coat, he has a balanced profile and a sturdy frame. He has a strong masculine headset, his muzzle is of good length, his pendant ears are well feathered and he has good dentition. His strong well arched neck leads down to well laid back shoulders, and a straight front. He has a level topline and high set tail, which is well feathered and carried over his back. He moved well when settled, and was handled well. BOB

O (1,0) 1st Dr & Mr Logan’s Spyanki Impulse JW, litter brother to 1st in graduate, he has a full gold coat and heavy feathering. Not as balanced or compact as his brother, he also has a strong headset, good length of muzzle and dark eyes. His neck is strong and well arched, with a level topline, deep chest and strong loin. He was hesitant on the table, and a bit reluctant on the move.

AVNSC UTILITY

G (3,2) 1ST Miss Gilmour’s Sandars Mr Rubble, a red and white coated bulldog, just under 2 years old. He has a broad square head, a short deep muzzle with a pleasing turn up of lower jaw, gentle wrinkling to his forehead and well placed ears. He has dark round eyes and an alert expression. His chest has width and depth, his neck is strong and arched, and he has well muscled hindquarters. He moved with the typical bulldog roll and was well handled.

O (2,1) 1st Mr & Mrs Todd’s Ch Witchgait Toasted Cheese JW ShCEX OSW, a 3 year old red fawn Shar Pei with a harsh bristly coat. He is squarely built and compact with an alert expression. He has a masculine headset, with a flat skull, a broad stop, a broad full muzzle, dark almond shaped eyes and the expressive frown. His neck is strong and well set into his powerful shoulders, he has a broad deep chest and a gentle rise over his loin. Well muscled throughout, he moved well in all directions. BOB and UG4

UTILITY GROUP

1ST French Bulldog - Miss Ross’ Franstelgo’s Low Rider. A 2 year old well marked brindle dog, he has a compact frame, excellent bone and substance, a gentle roach over his loin and pleasing angulation front and rear. His head is so typical, square and in proportion, lovely dark round eyes, and a gentle affectionate expression. He moved very well, maintaining his topline, and in harmony with his handler.

2nd Tibetan Spaniel – Miss Duncan’s Susu Appley Ever After, see 1st Junior, Tibetan Spaniel

3rd Boston Terrier- Mr & Mrs Weaver’s Kiarzo I See Stars, a 20 month old seal brindle and white bitch who has a compact square balanced outline, a well-proportioned feminine headset, and a lovely reach of neck. She has a good spring of rib and depth of chest and pleasing angulation. Her topline is level and she maintained it going round the ring, with an elegant, effortless stride. She was handled very well.

AV Utility Minor Puppy (1,0)

1st Mr & Mrs Cox’ Halloxwishes Elena Coco, a dark brindle French Bulldog bitch, 9 months old today. She has large ears which she should grow into as she matures, dark round eyes with an intelligent glint, and good length of muzzle with a well defined stop. She is developing in chest and rib, has a long reach of neck and a short tail. She has a good turn of stifle and width of thigh. She is longer cast than I prefer, and moved better on a loose lead.

1st Miss Duncan’s Susu Appley Ever After, see 1st Junior, Tibetan Spaniel

2nd Miss Hogan’s Baclaudi Finn Iston, a 10 month old dark brindle French Bulldog. He was presented in excellent condition, and has a square head with well placed dark round eyes, good width of muzzle and jaw, with a pleasing turn up. Gentle wrinkling to his forehead and well placed bat ears of good size. He has a good spring of rib and depth of chest, and a neat cut up. He needs to tighten up a bit at the rear, and moved ok

AV Utility Veteran (5,2)

1st Miss Hogan’s Ch Xentique Pandamonium for Baclaudi JW ShCM, a 10 year old brindle pied French Bulldog. Just loved his expression, his dark round eyes full of mischievousness, he has a square balanced head and well set bat ears. With ample bone and substance, he has a cobby balanced outline, a gentle rise over his loin and a well set tail. Full of character, he bounced around the ring showing the youngsters how to do it. Such a showman, he was a pleasure to go over.

BEST IN SHOW

I was delighted to see 7 quality exhibits enter the ring, any one of them could have been awarded BIS on another day.

Ms Phillips’ Ch Luachmhar Jamilah ShCEx, Saluki. I have not had the honour of going over this breed before, and it was an absolute pleasure to meet one of this quality. She has a perfectly balanced profile, stunning headset, with dark oval eyes and a dignified and intelligent expression. Her coat is soft and smooth with feathering, and her movement is flowing and effortless. She moved so well, demonstrating reach and drive with a light lifting action, and held her head with such dignity. She was expertly presented and handled to perfection.

RESERVE BEST IN SHOW

Maclaine & Dickson’s Greyspirit Purdue JW ShCM ShCEx VW CJW17 CW22 CVW24, Weimaraner. A 9 year old silver grey bitch who gave no indication of her age at all. She has a beautiful headset, an alert, kind expression, powerful jaw and well placed ears of good length. She has clean lines and a pleasing overall balanced construction. She is well muscled and moved effortlessly round the ring, maintaining her topline. I was also very pleased to award her Best Veteran in Show.

BEST SPECIAL MINOR PUPPY IN SHOW

Mrs Mcniven & Misses Bryson and Bryson’s Dajaveil Dugald Drumguish, Scottish Terrier. At 6 months old this young black male was brimming with confidence and ring presence. He has a head of good proportions, dark eyes with an intelligent expression under well set eyebrows, and neat erect ears. He has a harsh dense outercoat, a level topline and well set tail. He has substance and bone, and moved so well, guided expertly by his young handler.

RESERVE BEST MINOR PUPPY IN SHOW

Mr Headspeath’s Jantavia She Drives Me Crazy, Rottweiler. An 8 month old bitch with a delightful temperament, good natured and bold, she made her handler work hard! She has a compact powerful outline, in proportion and with excellent bone. Her headset is balanced, and she has a pretty, feminine expression, dark eyes, well set pendant ears and a strong deep muzzle with good dentition. Her front is straight, with strong pasterns and she has a developing chest and rib. She is short in loin with broad muscular thighs, strong round feet and well set tail. She moved with purpose.

BEST SPECIAL PUPPY IN SHOW

Mr Walsh & Ms Lloyd’s Geordiestoon Defiant Boy for Weorc, Staffordshire Bull Terrier. A 10 month old black brindle and white dog with a stunning ‘look at me’ stance. He has an amazing calm and confident demeanour and he caught my eye every time I looked round the ring. He has a broad skull, short foreface, a strong clean jaw with correct scissor bite, dark round expressive eyes and well placed half pricked ears. He has a balanced outline, with a strong neck leading cleanly to well laid back shoulders, a level topline and he is well muscled throughout. He has depth and width to his front, well boned straight legs and strong pasterns. His ribs are well sprung, and he has good bend of stifle. He moved smoothly with a powerful gait and plenty of drive. I will watch his progress with interest.

Ms Gibb’s Ch Snikkles Bluebeard at Pirateer JW ShCM ShCEx VW, Bearded Collie. A 10 year old blue tricolour male with a lovely kind bright expression, he was presented in excellent coat and clearly adored his handler. He is balanced throughout, with a pleasing masculine head, good length of muzzle, large black nose, well set ears and strong jaw. He is well muscled and has ample bone and good angulation front and rear. He moved so well, with a smooth effortless gait, maintaining his topline at all times.

MAY FRASER OPEN STAKES (11,5)

1st Mr, Mrs & Miss Hunter’s Ch Collooney Was Meant To Be at Sulahmara JW ShCEx OSW, Whippet. Just approaching his 4th birthday, this quality fawn brindle male was a pleasure to go over. His head is long and clean with small well placed ears, bright oval eyes and a powerful jaw. He has excellent angulation front and rear, a straight front and strong pasterns. His chest is deep and ribs are well sprung. He looks impressive from all angles, and moved easily with a long stride, maintaining his topline.

2nd Mclaine & Dickson’s Greyspirit Rock Star from Hantzburg JW ShCEx OSW VW, Weimaraner. A 7 year old male who presents a powerful and balanced outline, with a strong masculine headset, friendly alert expression and clean lines throughout. Well muscled and totally sound, he moved effortlessly on compact well arched feet.

DAVIE LAIDLAW PUPPY STAKES (4,2)

1ST Ms Mcguire’s Tatalena Supersonic, see 2nd Graduate Poodle (Miniature)

2nd Mrs & Miss Mallinson’s Edenwhip A Moment in Thyme, Whippet. A 9 month old blue brindle bitch who was a little nervous on the table. She has a lovely elegant outline, feminine head and developing chest and rib. She moved well and with drive, and was very well handled.
