East of England Ladies Kennel Society Open Show 22nd July 2025

Thank you to the Officers and Committee for inviting me to judge utilities and groups at your well run and friendly open show. The quality of dogs was very good, so thank you to all the exhibitors who entered under me, it was a very enjoyable day. Special thanks to Nikki Humphries who completed her first stewarding appointment very loudly and efficiently on the day!

AV VETERAN STAKES (24,10)

1ST Mrs Crawford’s Silgarhi O’de Chen at Nytechorus VW, Tibetan Terrier. At 9 years old he has a gold sable and white full double coat, in excellent condition and he was very well presented. He has a square balanced outline, a masculine headset, well furnished and large round dark eyes with an alert, intelligent expression. His muzzle is of good length, he has a well developed lower jaw and excellent dentition. His neck is of good length, flowing into his well placed shoulders, his front is straight and he has round heavily furnished feet, good depth of brisket and spring of rib. His topline is level, and his tail is well feathered and carried over his back. He was handled extremely well, and moved smoothly with drive around the ring. I was pleased to award him 1st AV Utility Veteran later in the day, and delighted to hear he later went RBVIS

2nd Mr Wilson’s Hameldowntor Music of the Night VW, Retriever (Flat Coated). Another 9 year old, she has a lovely sheen to her black glossy coat, a balanced outline and a lovely headset. Very bright and active, her tail did not stop the entire time she was in the ring. She was a joy to go over, well boned with good depth of chest, a straight front, well ribbed and with strong hindquarters. Her movement was free flowing, maintaining her topline at all times.

DALMATIAN

P (2,0)

1ST Mrs Alexander’s Offordale Belvedere. A 10 month old white and liver spotted dog, he is nicely balanced in profile, with smooth clean lines. His head is masculine with a powerful muzzle, good dentition, oval amber eyes and a pleasing earset. His nicely arched neck leads down to well laid back shoulders, his front is straight and well boned, he has a deep chest and correct spring of rib for his age. His back is strong and level, with a slight arch over his loin, rounded off at the croup and finishing with a well set tail of good length. He is well muscled all over, with a clearly defined second thigh, good bend of stifle and his hocks are also well defined. He was handled very well, and moved round the ring effortlessly with smooth long strides. BP, BOB and UPG4

2nd Mrs Davis’ Offordale Mey, litter sister to 1st place, she has many of the same attributes but is maturing at a slower rate. Her B/W coat is sleek and glossy, and she has an elegant profile. Her head is feminine and her ears are high set and of correct size and shape. Developing in chest and rib, she also has a strong level back, good angulation front and rear and well defined hocks. She was a bit erratic on the move today.

PG (4,3)

1st Mrs Hopkin’s Joubello Fastlove, a B/W male of 16 months, he has dark eyes with a gentle friendly expression, a strong muzzle with correct bite and clean lips, and his ears are of good size and shape. He has good lay of shoulder, his front is straight with compact feet and his elbows are set close. His ribs are carried well back, and he has a strong clean loin, level topline and well set tail. He was attentive to his handler and moved well with a long fluid stride.

O (3,1)

1st Miss Pace’s Sadiedel’s Arab Girl JW, a 2 year old B/W bitch with a pretty feminine expression, and dark oval eyes. She has excellent pigment, good length and depth of muzzle and strong jaws. Her ears are set high, and of pleasing size and shape. She is balanced in profile with a level topline, good depth of chest and turn of stifle, hocks are well defined, and she has good angulation front and rear. Her front is straight with good bone, and ribs are well sprung. She moved with very well and challenged hard, but had to settle for RBOB today. I also awarded her 1st in the Reserve BOB Competition, in strong company.

2nd Miss Hobbs and Ms Whiting’s Joubello Freedom with Rapanooey, a 16 month old B/W male, litter sister brother to 1st in PG, he is maturing slower than his sibling. He has a heavily marked coat, and is longer cast than 1st place. His head is developing, with good length of muzzle, dark oval expressive eyes, and tight flews. His ears are lower set, but of good shape and size. His front has good bone, just needs a bit more width of chest, which is of good depth and his ribs are carried well back. He has a good reach of neck, a strong back and clean loin, with good width of thigh. He also moved with purpose, covering the ground with a long stride.

MINIATURE SCHNAUZER

J (2,1)

1ST Miss Parker, Miss Saunders & Mr McDonald’s Risepark First Stage, a 14 month old pepper and salt dog, presented in excellent trim, with a good coat of harsh texture. He is sturdily built, with a well balanced outline, and an alert expression on his head of good proportions. He has prominent eyebrows, a muzzle of good length, strong jaw with good dentition and a bristly moustache and beard. His ears are set high and of correct shape and size. His neck is well arched and set into well laid shoulders. His front is straight with good bone, he is developing in chest and rib, and his topline is slightly higher at shoulder. He is well off for muscle and moved with reach and drive. He was very well handled, and I was pleased to award him BOB.

1st Miss Cudby’s Eveshar Moving On with Bynors, another pepper and salt male, he is 3 years old and also presented in good coat. He has dark oval eyes and an alert intelligent expression, good head furnishings and length of muzzle, well set ears and a strong jaw. He has a straight front, well off for bone, and a good reach of neck leading down to flat shoulders. His feet are round and compact, and he has a high tailset. I preferred the topline of 1st Junior. He was handled and moved well. RBOB

POODLE (STANDARD)

1ST Mrs Geeson & Miss Nugent’s Janavons Midnight Melody, a 10 month old black bitch. She has a feminine headset, with dark almond shaped eyes, flat cheekbones, tight fitting lips and good dentition. Her coat is coming in, and she has a neck of good length leading down to laid back shoulders. Her front is straight, with developing bone, chest and rib. Her back is strong and her loins are broad; she has a good turn of stifle and small tight feet, and a high set tail. She moved with proud carriage and light sound movement, and plenty of drive. BOB and BP

2nd Mrs Geeson and Miss Nugent’s Janavons Star of the Sea. Litter sister to 1st, she was presented with a fuller dense black coat. She has similar attributes to her sister, is broader in muzzle and has an intelligent expression. She is shorter in loin, and has good rear angulation, I preferred the tailset and topline of 1st place today.

1st Mrs & Mr Coates’ Afterglow Luminary with Angelsam, a 13 month old white bitch, very well presented with a dense, harsh coat. She has a well balanced profile, with head and neck in proportion to her body, black eyes and pigment, and chiselling to foreface and flat cheeks. She has an intelligent feminine expression, well set ears and leathers of good length. Her back is short, with a high tailset, and neat feet. She also moved very well, but unfortunately she did not want me to go over her today, in this class or the next, which was a

real pity, although she did make friends with me after judging had concluded!

PG (3,1)

1st Miss Clark’s Ophelia Emilia, a 2 year old black bitch presented in continental trim. She has lovely dark eyes, good length of muzzle and a well defined chin, a strong foreface and good length of leathers. She has depth and width of chest, a straight front and small tight oval feet. Her thighs are well developed and she has a pleasing bend of stifle, and a high tail set. She moved well, RBOB and 2nd PG AV Utility.

TIBETAN TERRIER

1st Mrs Laffling’s Araki Dipsy Dreamlover, an 8 month old gold sable and white bitch with a lively outgoing temperament. She has a lovely head and expression, large dark eyes, black nose and good dentition. Her ears are set high and well furnished. She has a sturdy square outline, with a neck of good length and a high set well feathered tail, carried over her level back. Her front is straight and she large round feet. Developing in chest and rib, she has a good turn of stifle and low set hocks. She was handled and moved well. BP

2nd Mrs Rudderham’s Dejaru Only Make Believe, at just 6 months this black and white bitch was a delight to go over. Very much a baby, her head is in proportion, she has a feminine expression and dark round eyes. Her ears are well set and feathered, and she also presents a sturdy profile. Her front is straight and she has good bone, large round feet and she carries her head proudly on her neck of good length. She was a bit exuberant on the move today but was handled well. Also 2nd Puppy in AV Utility.

1st Mrs Laffling’s Taxiki Causin’ Chaos, a 10 month old black and white dog, very well presented and in good coat. His well furnished head is of good proportions, he has an alert intelligent expression, large dark round eyes, pleasing length of muzzle and good dentition. His ears are well set, pendant and well feathered, and his neck is of good length. He has a balanced profile, with well laid shoulders, a straight front and large round heavily furnished feet. He has a good bend of stifle a high set, well feathered tail. He maintained his topline on the move, and was well handled. Also 1st Junior AV Utility.

1st Miss Armstrong & Mr Cherry’s Araki Fantasy Funtime at Tizzycharm JW, a 2 year old gold sable and white bitch in good coat. She has a square balanced outline, a lovely feminine headset, large dark round eyes with a soft intelligent expression, and excellent pigment on rims, nose and lips. She has a strong jaw and good dentition. Her pendant ears are well furnished and her strong neck leads down to well laid shoulders. Her back is level with her plumed tail carried over. Her compact frame is well muscled and she moved effortlessly round the ring, maintaining her topline, RBOB, and also 1st PG AV Utility.

1st Mrs Buckles’ Karshok Amra Jetsang, a 2 year old tricolour male and another in good coat, he has a lively good natured temperament and was a pleasure to go over. His well furnished head is of good proportions, with well set large dark round eyes, a strong muzzle and excellent dentition. He has a sturdy balanced outline, compact and well muscled. His ears are well set and heavily furnished, and his strong neck is of medium length. His shoulders are well laid, and he has a fair spring of rib, and good depth of brisket. His short loin and well bent stifles help to maintain his level topline. His front is straight and he has large round feet. He moved effortlessly with good reach and drive, and was very well handled, BOB

2nd Miss Armstrong’s Rigaze Dalai Gartok at Tizzycharm, a 5 year old sable and white dog and another in good coat, he also has a masculine headset, pleasing length of muzzle and an intelligent expression. He has excellent pigment and large dark round eyes. Not quite as square or compact as 1st place, he does however have a level back, high set tail and is well muscled. His shoulders are well laid, he has a sturdy frame was very well handled, maintaining his topline on the move. Also 1st Open AV Utility.

BOSTON TERRIER

1st Mrs Reynold’s Jackarhys Tap Dancer at Ambrill, an 8 month old seal brindle and white bitch, she has a compact frame, is developing in rib and chest, with good bone and neat feet. Her front is straight; her pasterns need to tighten as she matures. She has a square feminine head with dark well set eyes, a smooth forehead, erect well situated ears and good width of muzzle. Her ribs are carried well back, and she has a level back and a small tail. She was very enthusiastic on the move, making her handler work hard, but demonstrated good movement when she settled. BP

J (3,0)

1st D & F Atherton-Kemp’s Aprika Glory Days, a seal brindle and white bitch who has just turned 12 months old, she has a compact well balanced frame, a level topline and small well set tail. Her head is feminine and square, with well placed ears and flat skull between, round dark eyes and a well defined stop. Developing in muzzle, she has good width of lower jaw and good dentition. Her front is straight with a pleasing amount of bone, short tight pasterns and small round feet. She has good angulation front and rear; good depth and width of chest and her ribs are carried well back. Her movement was graceful and sure footed; I was pleased to award her BOB and later UGP2.

2nd Miss Masters’ Aprika Graceland, a brindle and white bitch of 12 months, she is litter sister to 1st place. She is developing at a slower pace than her sister, however she has a beautiful feminine headset, dark round eyes with a kind expression, a well defined stop, small ears set correctly and good depth of muzzle. Her slightly arched neck is set neatly into her shoulders. She is developing in width and depth of chest, has a straight front and short strong pasterns, a level topline and well set short tail. She has a good turn of stifle and hocks are well let down. Unfortunately, she was spooked as she came into the ring by another dog, and she lost her composure. She was very well and sympathetically handled and clearly has a great rapport with her handler, but she kept her ears down and did not want to show. She rallied when called back into the challenge and I was very pleased to award her RBOB

A.V. IMPORTED BREED REGISTER

O (3,2)

1ST Miss Cunningham’s Cracker of Yulyeong (Imp Kor) a 6 year old red fawn Korean Jindo. He has a masculine headset, with small dark eyes, pleasing length of muzzle, strong jaw and good dentition. His triangular shaped ears are erect and incline slightly forward, inline with his neck which is slightly arched and leads down to laid back shoulders. His forelegs are straight and he has a slight slope to his pasterns. His back is level and he has width of thigh and a moderate turn of stifle. He would benefit from gaining slightly more weight. He moved well and held his head high. B.A.V.I.B.R

1ST Mr & Mrs Warnes’ Myhaven Lucky Fancy, Poodle (Miniature). A 7 month old black dog, very well presented with a profuse harsh coat. He is balanced in profile, with a straight front, small tight feet, a short strong back, and high tailset. His head is masculine with dark almond shaped eyes and a kind intelligent expression. He has flat cheeks, a pleasing length of muzzle and well defined chin. His ears are set low and age appropriate in size. He is developing in chest and rib, and has a well proportioned neck, enabling him to move round the ring with proud carriage and elegant free movement. He was very well handled, BP and UPG3

2nd Mrs Searles’ Jaidev’s Fifth Avenue via Cravessa, Japanese Shiba Inu. At just 6 months this red bitch is very much a baby, maturing well in all areas. She was a delight to go over, has a feminine headset, with small well set triangular ears, inclining forward and she used them well. Her dark brown eyes are small and her muzzle is of good depth and tapers to a blunt jaw with good dentition and tight lips. Her frame is small and well balanced, with good angulation and a high set tail curled over her level back. She was bright and active, and very enthusiastic on the move.

J (3,1)

1st Mrs Walker’s Raeannes Black Velvet, Poodle (Miniature). A 13 month old black dog and another well presented in a profuse coat of harsh texture. He has an appealing masculine headset, dark eyes with an intelligent expression, a strong foreface with chiselling, flat cheekbones and tight lips. His muzzle is of good length and he has a well defined chin. He is nicely balanced in profile, with good depth of chest, a straight front and small tight feet. He is developing in rib, has a short strong back, a high tailset and is well muscled throughout. He has sound free movement and was handled very well. BOB

2nd Mrs Manners and Miss Scales’ Roopec Keep Up With Me, Schipperke. She has just turned 18 months old and presented with a harsh black coat, and a tightly curled tail carried over her back. She has a pretty foxy feminine headset, well proportioned and in balance with her small cobby frame. Her chest is broad and deep, and she has a short level back and a good cut up. She has small cat like feet, and her hocks are well let down. She was well handled and moved with a short brisk stride.

1st Mrs Rollinson and Mrs Manners’ CH/IR CH Summerhaze Shafran Among Chadbower (Imp Rus) IR JCH, Schipperke. A 4 year old black dog with a small cobby frame, well balanced and in good coat, a full mane and culottes, and a well furnished tail carried tightly curled over his back. He has a delightful alert and intelligent expression, erect ears of good size and shape, a broad flat head with a slight stop, dark eyes and a muzzle of moderate length, a strong jaw and good dentition. His short strong neck is well set into sloping shoulders, a straight front and pleasing amount of bone. His short level back is strong; he has good depth and width of chest and is well muscled throughout. He covered the ring with a brisk movement. RBOB A.V UTILITY

1ST Miss Timms’ Olijah Coming For You, French Bulldog. An 8 month old brindle bitch, she is maturing well, with a lovely profile, well balanced and compact. Developing in head, she has well positioned ears, soft wrinkling on her domed forehead, dark expressive eyes, a muzzle of good depth and width, ample cushioning and a gentle upsweep. She has good depth of chest for her young age, good shoulder placement, developing in rib, a gentle rise over her loin, and a good turn of stifle. She has excellent movement, and was very well handled.

2nd Mrs Manners’ Ch Chadbower Nevaeh Lahetti VW, Schipperke. An 8 year old black bitch with just a hint of silver on her muzzle the only indication of her age. She has a beautiful full coat, with an abundant mane and well covered tail. She is well balanced, with a small cobby profile, everything is in proportion and full of breed type. She has a feminine headset, a bright glint in her dark eyes, erect ears of good size and position, a pleasing length of muzzle and good dentition with a strong jaw and plenty of fill under her eyes. She has a straight front, with her legs well under her body, ample bone and small cat like feet. She has a good spring of rib and depth of chest, a short strong back and well developed thighs. She moved very well and clearly adores her handler.

UTILITY GROUP

1ST Miss Timms’ Olijah Going in Deep, French Bulldog. I judged this brindle male earlier in the month and it was lovely to see him put through to the group, so I had the pleasure of going over him again. He is maturing very nicely indeed. He is well balanced, sturdy and compact, with good bone and no sign of any exaggeration. His head is masculine and everything is in proportion and well placed. He has great ring presence with a kind, intelligent expression, and that ‘look at me’ stance. He is completely sound, and went round the ring with free flowing movement in all directions, and was extremely well handled. He was also awarded UPG1, and I was absolutely delighted to hear he later went Best in Show, and Best Puppy in Show, Congratulations to his owner and handler.

2nd D & F Atherton-Kemp’s Aprika Glory Days, Boston Terrier, see 1st Junior.

3rd Mr & Mrs Collett’s Velrok Ringing Gold JW, Tibetan Spaniel. A 3 year old male presented in excellent condition with a silky gold sable coat, well feathered on ears and legs, and a high set plumed tail. He has a masculine headset, with an intelligent glint in his well placed dark eyes. His muzzle is blunt with plenty of cushioning and good depth and width of chin. He was a pleasure to watch on the move, with quick free flowing movement.

4th Mrs Gillman’s Mytilene Hot Shot, Lhasa Apso. At 11 months old this delightful black and white dog is well balanced and sturdy, with a happy demeanour. His head is well furnished and he has dark expressive eyes with a glint of mischievousness! His neck is strong and well arched, he has good angulation front and rear, a

level topline and a well feathered high set tail. He was well handled and it was a pleasure watching him move freely round the ring with a jaunty gait. Also UPG2

1ST Miss Pace’s Sadieldel’s Arab Girl JW, see Dalmatian 1st Open

2nd Mrs Gillman’s Bellellen Magic Mike with Mytilene JW, Lhasa Apso. At 6 years old this gold dog has a very well presented heavy gold coat, a strong masculine headset with dark expressive eyes, lovely dark pigment on nose and lips, well furnished and with good whiskers and beard. He has a balanced profile, well feathered ears and tail, a level topline and strong loin. He good depth of chest, and ribs extend well back. He moved freely round the ring.
