Please may I thank the Committee for the chance to judge these lovely gundog breeds and the honour of my first Gundog Group. It was a lovely well-organised and friendly show despite the heavy rain outside. Thank you to my two lovely Stewards who kept me on track. To all the exhibitors who entered under me and gave me the opportunity to assess some lovely dogs .. thank you!

COCKER SPANIELS

1 Harvey’s Tomerine Fact or Fable

Well balanced 2 year old black dog. Head and skull to standard with intelligent expression. Good angulation front and rear with gentle slope to level topline which was held on the move. True in movement going away and coming back with happy attitude. Shown in good coat condition. Happy to award Best of Breed.

2 Lewis’s Rockypoint Raffles

Another two year old dog. Had a lot of the attributes of the winner. But on the day, just lost out on movement.

3 Yorath’s I will be Fortune Teller for Witko (Imp Hun)

1 Worth’s Sarabande Spirit in the Skye

 Compact 18 months old bitch with a rich red colour and nicely balanced throughout. Pretty in head with a kind eye. Nothing over exaggerated. Muscular neck set into good shoulders. Deep in brisket with good spring of ribs. Well-boned and presented in excellent muscle tone. Adequate stifle which she used to her advantage on the move showing drive and being straight away and back. Best of Breed

2 Johnson & Langley’s Santallina Coeorbus

My notes say a happy outgoing 6 month old puppy dog. He and his handler are new to the ring but with patience they showed me a promising puppy. Good movement when settled. Just need time and experience. Best Puppy in Breed.

1 Worth’s Sh Ch Sarabande Lord of the Dance AI JW VW

Sire of my BOB, a smart 8 year old dog lovely deep red in colour. Masculine in head with strong neck leading into good layback of shoulder. Sufficient bone with nice tight feet. Deep in brisket with well sprung ribs and strong slightly arched loin. Angulation front and rear gave this dog the ability to move well with freedom. Just missed out to his daughter on the day.

1 Luczynski’s Fabelsfee Nothing But Fun for Kanara (Imp Fin)

Pretty 5 year old bitch who presented in nice condition overall. Lovely rounded skull with pronounced stop and typical round eye. Well set on lobular ears. Good in buff coloured coat. Balanced throughout with deep chest. Excellent well muscled hind quarters gave for very sound movement with happy wagging tail.

1 Luczynski’s Baladeva Scarlet Letters for Kanara ShCM SHCEX VW

Beautifully presented and handled 9 year old black bitch. Pretty head with lovely expression. Correct in balance with lovely front and back angulation which she used on the move. Straight going away and coming back with merry attitude covering the ground well. Preferred the shoulders on this one for BOB

ENGLISH SPRINGER SPANIELS

A lovely entry on paper but sadly a lot of absentees. But thank you for supporting the society and keeping your breed classes.

1 Such’s Gleadsbury Whataboy at Mujascal

9 month old liver and white dog with handsome masculine head. Well balanced in profile with good reach of neck, well laid shoulders. Nice depth of chest and well-sprung, well-laid back ribs leading into a strong arched loin. Good width of thigh and enough bend of stifle and neat short hocks. He used all of these attributes to give free and active movement. BP and Gundog Puppy Group 1

2 Fugle’s Eastriding Love in Black with Cumani

Pretty black and white 3 year old bitch. Nicely put together with everything in moderation. Moved well but on the day preferred the balance and topline of the puppy.

Lovely 3 year old liver and white dog. Good in eye colour and shape giving a kind expression. Well chiselled head with enough stop and well set on ears. Nice length of neck flowing cleanly into well laid back shoulders. Good angles front and rear. He was presented in good muscular condition. Moved freely, reaching forward with drive. BOB

1 Jones’s Germanus Makin A Point

2 and half year old liver and white dog. Lovely masculine head with correct skull shape, nicely set on ears. Loved his typical eyebrows and beard. Well balanced overall with deep chest and well sprung ribs reaching well back. Good in rear angulation and well muscled. Ok on the move but would prefer more forward reach.

Very nice 5 year old liver and white bitch. Nicely proportioned throughout with nothing over exaggerated presenting a balance picture. Attractive in head with again correct beard and eyebrows. Good in front and rear angles and in good condition. Moved true and with reach and drive. BOB

Promising 10 and half month old liver and white ticked bitch. Nicely balanced with good angles rear and aft. Clean cut head with correct earset and intelligent expression. Level topline, deep in chest and well ribbed. Tail set on correctly. Good muscle tone which she used to advantage on the move. True going away and back. BP

2 Russell’s Fraulynzway Hayley’s Comet

Nicely put together rising 3 year old bitch maturing well. Most of my comments on the class winner applied to this girl too. Lovely headed girl with good overall balance. Just preferred movement of the movement of the puppy today.

Well presented 2 year old dog. Lovely type of dog endowed with the qualities of the breed standard. Good overall balance giving a pleasing outline. Loved his clean cut masculine head with correct dark eye. Good in depth of chest with good bone. Correct angulation front and rear and good condition allowed him to move with reach and drive. BOB

2 Whittaker’s Pingarypoint Milk Shake SHCEX

Well balanced 4 year old bitch. Nicely balanced throughout and feminine in head. My notes say a little wider in front than my winner but still moved well and steady.

Stood alone for her breed. 20 month old bitch with good proportions. Nicely angled front and rear. Deep in chest with good spring of rib. Lovely condition in muscle and coat and moved well and true. Would have preferred her to be slightly stronger in topline. BOB

1 Brock’s Zoalin Better Together

17 month old orange and white bitch shown in lovely condition. Loved her curvy outline and overall balance, nothing overdone. Lovely head proportions with kind expression and large open nostrils. Ears set on correctly. Strong neck leading into well laid back shoulders and correct topline and tail set. Deep in brisket with well laid back and well sprung rib, Moved very well with reach and drive.

2 Fleetwood’s Sonham Just Perfect (AI)

7 month old liver and white bitch. My notes say what a pickle! Nicely proportioned with feminine head and has a lot going for her. When settled moved well, true front and rear but tail carriage was a little high today. BP

A striking black and white 3 year old dog on the taller side. Nicely balanced with masculine head, good reach of neck into laid back shoulders flowing through to correct tail set. Well boned and straight in front with nice deep brisket. Strong in hindquarters and moved well. BOB

1 Simons’ Rainesgift Royal Mint I Coedylan JW Another who stood alone for the breed but my notes say happy 8 year old bitch, Lovely in coat and condition and belied her age on the move today. Balanced with good angles front and rear. Typical feminine FCR head with gentle eye. Good in topline with deep chest and good bone throughout, BOB

Stood alone but balanced 18 month old dog of sound build with rich red markings. Masculine head with correct ear set. Strong in neck which I would personally prefer a little longer in length. Good front and rear angulation with good depth to chest. Ribbed well back to well muscled loin. Excellent muscle tone and good bone throughout. Moved well on neat feet. BOB

Lovely tri-colour bitch with pleasing feminine head and kind expression. Nice length of neck set into well laid back shoulders. Good front and rear angulation. Sound construction throughout with good bone and neat feet. Good topline which she held on the move. BOB

2 Kaye’s Scillyset Love Bites 11 and half month old tri-colour dog. A lovely balanced type with nothing overdone. Masculine but not coarse in head. Straight in front with correct angles fore and aft. Neat feet. Would prefer slightly stronger in pastern but moved well holding his topline. BP

10 month old Gordon Setter dog. Stood alone but nice in type. Lovely handsome head of correct proportions with intelligent expression. Well set on ears. Clean neck flowing into well laid back shoulders. Deep in brisket with correct level topline. Correct angulation front and rear. Moved soundly. Maybe would prefer slightly more definition to his tan markings for my personal taste. But BP & Gundog Group Puppy 2

Orange and white 21 month old Brittany Spaniel dog. Strong stocky outline. Pleasing head with intelligent expression. Good moderate angulation. Clean neck flowing through to slightly sloping topline. Moved well.

5 year old Orange Roan Brittany Spaniel of correct size and proportions. Handled beautifully and presented in excellent condition. A workmanlike but well-balanced dog. Masculine head with nice high set ears. Deep chested with strong slightly sloping topline and strong, short loin. Moved very well. Best AVNSC and Gundog Group 3

Just 11 months chocolate labrador bitch. Lovely balanced shape to her head with gentle eye. Well angulated with deep chest and ribs well laid back. Lovely topline which she held on the move although would prefer her a little less heavy.
