Premier Open Show – Sunday 12th April 2025 (Dobermanns)

Firstly, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the committee for inviting me to judge the Dobermann classes at their prestigious 100th Anniversary Premier Show. To be part of such a special occasion for my very first judging appointment was truly an honour, and one I will always remember.

A heartfelt thank you also goes to the exhibitors who entered under me and made the effort to attend, especially on Easter Sunday. Your support and commitment to the show were greatly appreciated. While the entry was modest in numbers, it was high in quality, and provided an ideal, encouraging start to my judging career.

Junior

1st – EVALESCO’S SHADE OF CLASS

At just 7 months old, this black and rust male presented a lovely, clean square outline, standing balanced and confident, which is commendable for his age. His head is strong and well-developed, in proportion to his body, with a skull and muzzle of equal length and a dark, correctly set eye that contributes to a pleasing, intelligent expression.

He has a good length of neck that flows smoothly into the nape and transitions beautifully into a slightly sloping topline, creating an elegant and harmonious profile. A very exciting youngster who shows great potential. I was delighted to award him Best Puppy in Breed and even more so to see him take WPG1.

2nd – SACARIAS BLUE JEAN BABY AT BEKESHA

An eye-catching black and rust bitch, just under 15 months of age, who exudes femininity, elegance. She presents a clean, refined outline and well-proportioned construction. Her head is balanced and feminine, with correct length, a flat back skull. Her elegant neck flows smoothly into well-laid shoulders and a tidy front, with a good forechest and straight forelegs. Slightly up on the leg at this stage, but overall, she presents a balanced picture, with clear promise as she continues to mature.

On the move, she is smooth and free flowing, demonstrating good reach and drive while maintaining a firm topline. She holds her shape well and carries herself with natural poise, delivering a polished and composed performance. Unlucky to miss out on first place, she is a nice youngster with great potential— and one I’ll watch with interest as she matures.

Graduate

1st – EVALESCO’S SHADE OF CLASS

Open

1st – KORIFEY RECKLESS JW ShCEX OSW

A striking black and rust male, aged 2.5 years, who commands attention with his square, well-balanced frame and unmistakable breed type. He presents a strong, clean outline with well-angulated fore and hindquarters, which translate into effortless, fluid movement and excellent ring presence. His head is clean and noble, with parallel planes and a dark, expressive eye that enhances his alert and confident expression. While I would prefer slightly more depth of muzzle, its width and structure still convey strength without losing refinement.

He stands on strong, round bone and compact, cat-like feet, giving him a solid and purposeful stance. On the move, he is impressive – driving from behind with power and accuracy, showing correct footfall, reach, and rhythm throughout. His balanced construction and excellent centre of gravity allow him to hold his shape beautifully both stacked and in motion. A good-quality male who exemplifies type, soundness, and style. I was pleased to award him Best of Breed and thrilled to see him take a well-deserved Working Group 2.

2nd - JODASEEN STEEL CITY BLUES JW

A standard-sized, square black and rust female of just over 2yrs. She is compact and well-balanced, exhibiting excellent breed type and a harmonious blend of strength and femininity. She has a well-proportioned head with a flat and nearly parallel planes, and dark, expressive eyes that give a confident, slightly arrogant look. Throat is clean and muscular; lip could be a touch tighter. An elegant neck leading into a well-angled shoulder and matching upper arm, tight elbows, and a deep brisket. Forelegs are straight and well-boned, though a little more length would enhance balance. She presents a firm topline, correct underline, good croup and tailset, and a strong, well-muscled rear with well-bent stifles and straight hocks.

A nice mover with reach and drive, though the handler should be mindful of her tendency at times, to roach on the move and when not stacked correctly. I was pleased to award her Reserve Best of Breed.
