19th April 2025

Thank you to the officers and committee for their kind invitation to judge at their well-run open show and their hospitality on the day and to my stewards for keeping the ring moving smoothly.

Lancashire Heeler

P: (1) 1st Lawrence’s Foveaux China Girl, well-proportioned 7-month-old black & tan bitch. Good head with a flat skull and muzzle equal in length to skull. Lovely almond eye and well set, erect ears, giving an alert expression. Good length of neck and back with good depth of chest and well angulated front and rear with high set tail carried high with a slight curve. Super on the move, balanced in profile but tended to crab which I hope she will grow out of. BP & happy to award her PG2

PG: (5) 1st Wiseman’s Foxthyme Tilly, feminine 2-year-old black & tan bitch with a lovely head and eye, well placed ears set well apart and good underjaw. Neck of good length, set well into shoulders with good angulation front and rear, good depth of chest and spring of rib and ok in topline with a well-set tail. A touch longer than my ideal. Moved well 2nd Lawrence’s Foveaux China Girl, 3rd Fairest’s Skipest Summer Breeze

O: (3) 1st Lawrence’s Hoscar Ellis’s Eddie, 6-year-old black and tan dog of good proportions. Super head with flat skull and muzzle of equal length, dark almond eye and well-set erect ears of good size all giving an alert expression. Good length to heigh ratios with level topline and good neck. Well laid shoulder and ok return of upper arm with well angled hindquarters, short rear pasterns and well-padded feet. Free and balanced on the move. BOB 2nd Fairest’s Skipest Summer Breeze, 2-year-old black & tan bitch with lovely proportions and super topline. Lovely head, flat skull with a good almond eye and well-proportioned muzzle. Well laid shoulder but would prefer more return of upper arm and more bend of stifle in her rear angles. Lovely short rear pasterns and good depth of well sprung rib. 3rd Hughes’ Poolheywood Barney JW

Old English Sheepdog

P: (1) 1st Twigg & Wright’s Greydrover Poseidon, a very promising 6-month-old dog at his and his owner’s very first show. Lovely head proportions with square skull and strong muzzle, good bite, nice eye with good pigmentation. Well laid shoulder and good return of upper arm of correct length with well angulated hind angulation in balance with his front. Square in outline with good length of rib and short loin. Very excitable so at first difficult to assess on the move but was more settled in the puppy group and moved with balance. Some classes just make you smile, and this was one of them. Pleased to award BP and then PPG3, I hope his owner perseveres with him.

PG: (1) 1st Fawcett’s Starjanda Mr Bright Sky, 2-year-old dog with a correct, square outline. Head of good size and proportions with a square skull, well defined stop, square muzzle, eyes set apart with good pigmentation and good bite. Super length of neck and excellent angulation front and rear. Square outline coming from a short loin which has the required gentle rise, good depth of chest and spring of rib. Coat of good texture and condition. Found it a bit difficult to get in his stride, especially in the group, but when he did, he moved with good rear and drive. BOB & G3

O: (1) 1st Moore’s Mellowdee Do I Love You at Shimorill JW, 2-year-old bitch. Good size eye set correctly. Good length of muzzle but a bit finer in skull. Well laid shoulder but a bit short in upper arm and I would have preferred more bend of stifle. Good topline and slight rise over the loin but a touch long in loin which made her look a touch long. Good bone and depth of chest. In good coat of correct texture.

Pyrenean Mountian Dog

O: (3,1) 1st Jasper & Kitchen’s Pafaxen Rewrite the Stars, impressive 2-year-old white & blaireau dog. Lovely head of good size and proportions with a skull of good width tapering to a strong muzzle, super eye of correct shape and set and relatively small ears of good shape. I would prefer tighter lips, but this did not detract from his overall expression. Short neck set into a super front with well laid shoulder and good return of upper arm. Good depth of chest with well sprung rib and level topline. Gentle slope to the croup into a well angulated rear, with both double dew claws present. In excellent coat and condition and moved with ease and balance, carrying his tail over his back. BOB & G4. A very close 2nd, Flounders’ Kalkasi Just Imperial at Lakamoni, 3-year-old white & blaireau bitch with feminine head and expression, good width of skull of good shape, with a lovely eye and strong muzzle of good length. Super outline with a good neck and good angulation front and rear, with both double dew claws present, good depth of chest and level topline. Just not in the full bloom of the winner.

Border Collie

J: (1,1)

PG: (2,1) 1st Surridge’s Roydenbark Casablanca, 21-month-old black & white bitch. Good head with a flat skull of good width, lovely oval eye of good size, good stop, nice muzzle and well-set ears which all gave an alert expression. Good overall outline with super neck and good length of back. Well laid shoulder but slightly steeper in upper arm. Short hocks, well set tail and nice feet. Sadly, today didn’t move as her conformation suggested, lacking in reach and drive.

O: (3,1) 1st Webb’s Borderbrook Fire and Flame ShCEx, super 4-year-old black & white dog. Lovely, masculine head with a flat skull of good size, lovely muzzle, separated by a definite stop. Lovely oval eye with well set ears that gave him an alert expression. Super outline with good length of neck, well laid shoulder and good return of upper arm. Good length of strong back and gentle croup which allowed for a low set tail of good length. Well angulated rear with short rear pasterns. Good bone and tight feet. In super coat and moved steadily covering the ground with ease. BOB. 2nd Surridge’s Tonkory Yasmine, 4-year-old black & white bitch with a lovely eye, well set ears, good width of skull and well-proportioned muzzle although I would have preferred a slightly flatter skull. Well-proportioned with good neck and length of back and good height to leg ratios. Well laid shoulder but I would have preferred more return of upper arm and stronger hind angulation.

Briard

P: (1) 1st Kellet & Burrow’s Fostebrie Just Klassique of Kellbry, 7-month-old fawn bitch, very promising but quite excitable. Good head proportions with a strong muzzle of equal length to skull, a lovely dark eye of good size. Lovely neck into good front angulation with good bone and feet. Slightly longer than high with short loin and good hind angulation and double dew claws set low. Low set tail of excellent length. Quite excitable on the move but when settled was balanced on the move and true coming and going. BP & PG4

O: (1) 1st Kellet & Burrow’s Fostebrie Exotique Noir of Kellbry JW ShCM, almost 7-year-old black bitch of lovely proportions. Lovely head with rectangular skull of good width, slightly rounded at the edges, with muzzle of equal length and of good width. Good bite and underjaw. Super dark eye of good size, set correctly. Strong neck of good length, with a super, level topline and slightly sloping croup with low set tail of good length. Well laid shoulder with good return of upper arm of equal length. Good bone and feet. Good length and depth of well sprung rib, short loin. Well angled between 1st and 2nd thigh with well bend stifle and short rear pasterns and double dew claws set low. Moved effortlessly with ease, sound coming and going and showing balance in profile keeping her topline well. Delighted to award her BOB & G1

AVNSC Pastoral

P: (4,1) 1st Cobb, Cobb & Kent’s Knytshall Ragged Robin, Norwegian Buhund, very promising 11-month-old black dog. Super wedge head with a flat skull of good width, clean stop and tapering muzzle. Lovely dark eye of good size which, combined with set high ears and carried erectly, gave an alert expression. Square outline with good neck with a moderate arch, good angulation front and rear, deep chest with good spring and short loin. High set tail carried correctly and neat feet. Very balanced on the move, sound coming and covering the ground well. Very steady throughout, was delighted to award him BP & PG1, and I hear, BPIS4, well done2nd Stuart’s Tanellis Dare to Dream, Swedish Vallhund, 7-month-old grey bitch with lots to like. Lovely wedge head with an almost flat skull and strong muzzle slightly shorter than skull, divided by a medium stop. Lively eye of good shape and well-set ears of good size. Lovely in outline with strong neck of good length, super topline and good leg to height ratio and excellent length of back. Well angulated front and rear with super feet. Just not as tidy moving away as the winner. 3rd Dodgson’s Wreckinroc Wonderland, Bearded Collie

J: (1) 1st Amis & Stanley’s Droyales Present Verdandi, German Shepherd Dog, I really liked this 14-month-old sable boy. Super head of good size, clean wedge with good width between the ears, strong muzzle of equal length to skull with good underjaw and bite. Super almond shaped dark eye and high set ears of good size giving an alert and masculine expression. Lovely outline with no exaggeration. Good neck, straight back with a gentle slope to the croup and a low set tail. Well laid shoulder with a super return of upper arm and excellent hind angulation with straight rear pastern and no sign of weakness. In super coat of correct texture. Not the biggest of rings to show off his movement but he was sound coming and going and balanced in profile with excellent reach and drive. BOB & G2.

PG:(6,2) 1st Dodgson’s Wreckinroc Black Satin, Bearded Collie, 3-year-old black & white bitch. Good head with good length of skull and muzzle, lovely eye of good size set wide apart. Good height to length ratio and good depth of chest. Well angled front and rear, but I would have preferred a touch more drive on the move. 2nd Edwards’ Schnaubern Fawaris, Hungarian Pumi, 2-year-old white dog. Good head of good length, with muzzle slightly shorter than skull, with flat skull of good width. Super, oval eye of good colour and high set ears which tipped nicely and are very mobile. Square in outline. Balanced angulation front and rear, although I’d have preferred touch more. 3rd Ratajewski’s Denis Z Nekielki, German Shepherd Dog

O: (1) 1st Edwards’ Cseresznyeskerti-Csalfa Zajos (Imp Hun), Hungarian Pumi, 11-year-old black dog in great condition. Good head proportions with an oval eye set wide apart and ears set well apart. A touch more stop than ideal. Square in outline with good front and rear angulation, good depth of chest, level back with short loin and a high set tail. Brisk and balanced on the move.
