Camberley & District Canine Society

Breed: Best in show

CAMBERLEY, Nov 16

At a time when open show societies often find it difficult to continue, it is good to be able to report on one which bucks the trend. Camberley CS has a long & distinguished history among the clubs which serve the south eastern dog scene, but had been dormant since the Covid break. A small but very enthusiastic team are determined not to let it follow the fate of a number of others in the region & it emerged from its sleep with an enjoyable event at Bracknell Leisure Centre. Many of the breed classes were well supported by exhibitors from quite a distance & there was plenty of quality if my line-ups were anything to go by, among them some from the rarer breeds. Thanks to all involved & good luck for the future.

BIS was the French Bulldog Ch Bincombefarm Serpensortia JW, a pied who has matured into a very eyecatching example with her half-hooded markings only adding a certain charm. Impressive head with well set ears of the correct size, just enough neck & a super flow into a topline which really does have a ‘gentle rise over the loin, rounding off over the croup’. The right amount of bone & substance & excels in movement - ‘free & flowing’ is not that often seen in reality but here it is!

Reserve was the Siberian Husky Ch Winter Melody Triple Trouble at Amical, mature, unexaggerated & well conditioned with correctly proportioned head, nicely set & carried ears, arched neck, firm level topline, matching angles both ends, sound free mover. A close decision between her & a lovely very young Pomeranian who should have a great future.

Best puppy was the Affenpinscher Afterglow Alma’s Not Normal for Pinicio JW - celebrating her birthday, she was quite determined not to be ignored, a consummate show girl so attentive to her handler. She’s more than just ‘attitude’, though, so well made with a cheeky expression from super eyes, ears & finish of muzzle, appropriate neck, firm topline & such a typical gait. Rather special, I thought.

Reserve was the Border Terrier Gracezheim Bounce Back to Awbrooksky, very much younger but with the scope & reach to develop into an active, workmanlike terrier, good head proportions, enough neck, good bone, coat & feet, correct length of ribbing, moved smartly with a good stride. I see he’s by a dog I also admired as a youngster - hope this one follows on. Several strong contenders here including a rather exciting Jindo baby.

Best veteran was the Cesky Terrier Ch Komidion Prima Donna of Sametova ShCEx VW, this breed is known for its lasting qualities & at 9 years old this one was in tremendous form, giving away nothing in cheerful showmanship or freedom of movement. Typical head with prominent eyebrows & well carried ears, strong elegant neck into clean shoulders, well balanced body with characteristic topline & powerful hindquarters, well presented.

Reserve, the English Springer Ir Sh Ch Clentonian Pandemonium JW ShCEx OSW VW, grand 8-year-old in fine fettle, well balanced with good length of neck, feminine head, super neck & topline and a rhythmic stride. A beautifully presented Coton pressed hard.

AVNBBE: Good class, nice that a decent proportion of those entered stayed to compete. 1 Barham’s Droveborough Witchy Woman JW, this Pointer caught my eye straight away with her beautiful outline & quality look, not long out of puppy but well developed & in great condition, typical head, balanced angles & good upper arm, super bone & topline & moved out with a lovely long stride; 2 Ellen’s Klassna That’s My Dream, lovely Pomeranian from what was clearly a good litter, again very young but with the quality, style & overall balance to suggest an excellent future, coat well forward for age, compact body & typical expression; 3 Proctor’s English Springer Forgespring Nobody’s Fool at Blissenbea.
