Goosnargh & Longridge Agricultural Society

Breed: Retriever (Curly Coated)

GOOSNARGH & LONGRIDGE AGRICULTIRAL SOCIETY

OPEN SHOW SATURDAY 5th JULY 2025

LONGRIDGE SHOWGROUND LOWER LANE, LONGRIDGE, NR PRESTON, LANCS, PR3 3SL

I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Society for the kind invitation to judge the Gundog breeds today, specifically the Flat-Coated Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, and Labrador Retrievers, at this prestigious event. A heartfelt thank you also goes out to the exhibitors who presented their wonderful dogs and graciously accepted my placings.

I must extend my appreciation to David Bumford and Tracey Sheppard for their excellent stewardship and for ensuring the ring ran smoothly throughout the day. While it was unfortunate that some were unable to attend, it was nonetheless a rewarding experience, and I was pleased with my placings.

Thank you again to all involved for making the day a success!

RETRIEVER (FLAT COATED)

JUNIOR (1)

1st – WHTAKER, MR. N, MRS. R & Ms. S - JETSTARSKI RUN LIKE HELL

A lovely black bitch, just 14 months old, standing alone in this class but making a strong impression. She presented a balanced and well-constructed outline, with a nicely moulded head and well-set ears. Her long neck flowed smoothly into well-placed shoulders, and her straight forelegs were complemented by good bone and round, neat feet. Her feathering will come more on her legs and tail with maturity She was a delightful character, eager to please and never stopped wagging her tail, showing great enthusiasm. Moved confidently and with purpose around the ring, demonstrating good reach and drive

POST GRADUATE (2)

1ST SEE CRITIQUE IN JUNIOR

2ND WHITAKER, MR N, MRS R & MS. S - JETSTARSKI I’M ON FIRE

A 4-year-old liver bitch, another very nice example of the breed, with everything in proportion from head to tail. She has good feathering to legs and tail to complete the full picture. She presents a lovely overall structure and a confident, full-of-life personality that truly shines in the ring. Her head is well moulded and well set into the neck, long and free from throatiness, giving her an elegant and refined profile. On the day, however, I preferred the movement and tail carriage of the first place dog, which gave it the edge in the final decision. Nevertheless, this bitch has a lot to offer and is a credit to her owners.

OPEN (1)

1ST BOB – WHITAKER, MR N, MRS R & MS S, - SH CH EVENING MIST BLACK BRIANTA (IMP CZE)

A truly stunning black bitch, 7 years old, with much to admire about her overall presence. I was really pleased when this bitch came into the ring, as she embodied many of the qualities I was looking for. She has a beautifully moulded head with slight stop, correct eye shape and colour, and an intelligent expression. Her neck is long, flowing into well-laid shoulders. Straight forelegs with solid bone and well-constructed feet further complement her well-balanced structure. Her body is well ribbed up, showing a gradual spring and well arched in the centre. Her movement was free and flowing, as seen from both front and rear - effortless, straight, and true. The quality of her coat and overall condition was matched by the fullness of her furnishings, which, in maturity, complete her elegance. Without a doubt, she was the best mover of the day, and her performance earned her the top honours.
