Salisbury & South Wilts Canine Society

Breed: Border Terrier

Salisbury & South Wilts CS Open Show

21st Sep 2025

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the committee for inviting me to judge the

Border Terriers at their show. Although the journey the preceding day was lengthy, it proved to be

truly worthwhile. I was privileged to assess an outstanding entry of high-quality dogs and

bitches, and I am grateful to all the exhibitors for affording me this opportunity. While the size of

the ring presented some logistical challenges, the Border Terrier community adapted admirably

and ensured the event ran smoothly. The committee demonstrated excellent attentiveness

throughout, as did the two stewards who supported me during the show. Overall, I thoroughly

enjoyed my experience at this event.

Puppy

1st Place: Tarkaswell Hollywood Fame (Blue and Tan Bitch)

Impressed with her feminine head, complemented by neatly set ears and a correct mouth. Her

keen expression was particularly notable. She possesses the correct length of neck, which

f

lows seamlessly into well-placed shoulders. Her ribs are flat, and she maintains a narrow

profile throughout, making her easily spanned. The well-angulated rear enables her to move

efficiently. Additionally, she features a great harsh coat and a loose pelt.

2nd Place: Arunmere Rhapsody in Red (Grizzle Dog)

An excellent example of his type, demonstrating many admirable qualities. He displays a well

proportioned head, which is complemented by a keen, dark eye, giving him an alert and

intelligent expression. His strong neck transitions smoothly into well-laid shoulders,

contributing to his balanced outline. The topline and tail set are both correct and were

maintained consistently throughout his movement around the ring. Overall, his movement was

satisfactory, reflecting his correct construction and soundness.

Special Yearling

1st Place: Chesterton Vancouver (Grizzle and tan Dog)

Muzzle of good length and a correct bite. His keen expression and confident demeanour are

immediately apparent. He has a good topline and tail set, both of which are maintained as he

moves with purpose and energy. His movement is efficient, enabling him to cover the ground

with ease. The strength of his thick pads on small, tight feet further enhances his performance

and stability, and he is easily spanned, good jacket with thick pelt.

2nd Place: Ranthorn Return Favour for Cobstoneway (IMP USA)

(Grizzle and Tan Bitch)

A pleasing young bitch, feminine throughout with keen dark eye, correct mouth and neatly set

ears, good topline and correct tail set, confident on the move and good angulation front and

rear, nice tight jacket with supple pelt, moved well.

3rd Place: Tarkaswell Lonewolf (Grizzle and Tan Bitch) BP and TPG1

She presents a strong head and displays maturity in both physical structure and overall size;

nevertheless, she retains a distinctly feminine appearance. Her mouth is correct, and the lay of

her shoulder is also accurate, providing her with excellent balance whilst on the move. She

stands on small feet with thick pads, enhancing her stability and soundness. Her jacket is of

good quality and correct texture, supported by a thick pelt. This combination of attributes

earned her Best Puppy, and she subsequently progressed to win TPG1.

Post Graduate

1st Place: Thistlemead Fortitude JW (Grizzle and Tan Dog)

Impressed with his classic otter head, a correct bite, his keen, dark eye contributes to an alert

and pleasing expression. The quality of his pelt is notable, being both thick and protective, and

his harsh coat, his feet are small and tight, complemented by thick pads that provide stability

and support. While on the move, he carried his tail well and maintained a firm topline,

demonstrating balance and composure throughout. Nice to see this boy again!

2nd Place: Thistlestone Kiss of Fire (Grizzle and Tan Bitch)

This bitch is very feminine in all aspects, displaying a distinctively dark eye that enhances her

overall expression. Her neck is of correct length and flows smoothly into a well-laid shoulder,

which supports her balanced silhouette. She is narrow throughout and can be easily spanned, a

feature that contributes to her type and functionality. Her jacket is good and harsh,

complemented by a pliable pelt, providing both protection and flexibility. On the move, she

performed satisfactorily, maintaining composure and demonstrating her sound construction.

Open

1st Place: Chesterton Veva Las Vegas (Grizzle and Tan Dog) BOB, TG1 and

BIS

Chesterton Veva Las Vegas immediately captured my attention upon entering the ring,

maintaining a presence throughout. Displaying confidence, he clearly enjoyed his time in the

spotlight. His strong otter head is complemented by a dark, keen eye that contributes to his

alert and expressive demeanour. The correct length of neck flows into well-laid shoulders,

supporting a pleasing outline.

He maintains a solid topline both when standing and, on the move, while strong angulation at

both the front and rear ensures excellent balance and fluidity in his gait. His feet are neat and

compact, standing on thick pads that offer stability and support. The jacket is tight and harsh,

underpinned by a thick, pliable pelt.

There is no exaggeration in any aspect of this dog; he is of true type and his performance and

attributes rightfully earned him Best of Breed (BOB), after which he progressed to win TG1 and

ultimately achieved Best in Show (BIS) — a great achievement for this dog.

2nd Place: Tulawyn Garreston by Onthill (Grizzle and Tan Dog) RBOB

It was a pleasure to see this dog again in the ring. He presents with a strong otter head,

complemented by a flat skull and a shallow stop, all of which contribute to his confident yet

correct demeanour. The lay of shoulder is accurate, flowing seamlessly into a good topline and

a well-set tail of correct length. His angulation is also well-formed, enabling him to cover the

ground with both purpose and balance at all times.

One of his standout features is his tight, harsh jacket, which is consistently impressive and

never disappoints upon examination. Though he was narrowly edged out of first place today, he

was nonetheless deserving of Reserve Best of Breed (RBOB), and I was happy to award him this honour
