Ashford, Faversham & District Canine Society Limited Show – Sunday 21st September

It was a real pleasure to judge at this well-organised show, which was clearly valued by the Society’s members. Congratulations to the dedicated and welcoming Committee for their excellent work, and a heartfelt thank you to my steward, Jane Charleton, for her invaluable support during my first judging appointment. Sincere thanks also to all the exhibitors. I’m truly grateful for the invitation to officiate—it was an honour and a joy.

1st – LASERNA CAPTAIN CRASH - A & L Jones – Jack Russell Terrier

This young 8 month old boy caught my eye as soon as he entered the ring with well-balanced outline and typical terrier expression. He shows good breed type with a strong head, flat skull, and well-defined stop. Good length of neck flowing into well-laid shoulders. Topline is level and held well on the move. Tail is correctly set and carried. Coat is weatherproof with clean white and good tan markings. Movement is confident and clean coming and going, with drive from the rear and reach in front. Shows excellent attitude in the ring — lively, curious, and confident. A well-put-together puppy with correct proportions and a keen expression that typifies the breed. Shows excellent promise for the future. Today he dazzled with a faultless performance. Very pleased to award him Best AVNSC Terrier and Best AVNSC Puppy Terrier. However, even more delighted to see him awarded Best In Show (BIS) and also Best Puppy In Show (BPIS)

1st MAYURASANA CRISTAL VISIONS – Ms S Black & Mr C White – Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier

Feminine young 14 month old bitch of good breed type and quality, showing a well-balanced outline with good proportions and substance for her age. Front is developing well with straight forelegs and good depth of chest. Level topline held firmly both standing and on the move. Not too happy today at being gone over. Coat is of very good quality for her age — soft, silky, and beginning to fall with the correct gentle wave. A very promising youngster with lovely breed expression, who should continue to improve as she matures.

1st KANAWHA NEVER SAY NEVER – Mrs F Goldfinch – Cairn Terrier

Typical 4 year old bitch of good size and overall balance, presenting a compact and workmanlike outline with broad skull, well-defined stop, and a short, strong muzzle. Eyes are dark and set wide apart, giving a keen and mischievous expression. Correct length of neck flowing into well-laid shoulders. Coat is of proper double texture. Tail is well set and carried as expected. Moved ok from well-muscled hindquarters. True coming and going, and maintained her shape on the go. Confident ring presence with a typical Cairn attitude.

Mature 6 year old male presenting a strong, compact outline with correct proportions and unmistakable Cairn character with broad skull and good width between the ears, strong muzzle, and a well-defined stop. Good reach of neck flowing into clean, well-laid shoulders. Straight forelegs with ample bone. Deep chest with well-sprung ribs. Hindquarters are muscular and well-angulated, providing excellent drive. Movement is sound and purposeful — straight coming and going, with plenty of drive and ground coverage viewed in profile. Confident and composed. Moved well on the day.

1st PERFECT LOVE DI SUTRI AT LASERNA - A & L Jones – Jack Russell Terrier

Very taken with this 7 year old girl, Lovely veteran bitch showing excellent condition and maintaining her breed type and enthusiasm in the ring. Feminine head with correct proportions — flat skull, defined stop, and strong, clean muzzle. Good reach of neck into well-laid shoulders. Ribs remain well-sprung with a strong and short loin. Maintains a level topline and correct tail set and carriage, both standing and moving. Clearly enjoying her time in the ring, this girl shows the spirited and confident attitude expected of the breed.

Well-balanced 18 month old bitch of pleasing type showing a clean outline. Feminine head with good length and proportion with dark almond-shaped eyes offering a keen, intelligent expression. Skull and muzzle are balanced, with a defined stop and clean planes. Ears correctly set and carried in line with the skull. Rear quarters show strength and good muscle tone, with good angulation and short hocks. Coat is short, close-fitting, and in excellent condition, with deep black coloration. Calm and confident in the ring, showing a composed and willing attitude. A quality bitch with a lot to like — elegant, powerful, and showing good promise for future.

2nd – NEXGEN ALL EYEZ ON ME – Miss C Osbourne - Leonberger

Impressive 5 year old bitch of good type, presenting a powerful yet feminine outline. Strong, balanced head with correct proportions. Broad skull, moderate stop, and well-muscled muzzle. Dark, oval-shaped eyes give a kind and intelligent expression. Ears are well-set and close to the head.Neck is strong and flows into well-laid shoulders with ample forechest and depth. Straight front with excellent bone and large, compact feet. Hindquarters are powerful and well-muscled, with correct angulation and parallel movement. She moved with reach and drive. Coat in excellent condition with medium length, water-resistant and a good amount of undercoat. Well-presented.

Elegant and feminine 2 year old bitch of good size and balance. Long, lean and athletic with a flowing silhouette. Appealing head with flat skull and strong muzzle of equal length. Eyes are set well apart. Neck is of good length, clean and muscular, flowing smoothly into well-laid shoulders. Straight front with adequate bone. Ribs well sprung and carried well back. Topline is level and firm, held well on the move and at rest. Good coat quality with a harsh outer coat with soft undercoat, well presented with natural texture maintained. On the move, she covered ground with ease and freedom, moving economically, showing reach and drive without exaggeration.

2nd – DALEABBEY’S APPLE PIE AT BROWNIEGLEN – Mrs E C Winfield – Welsh Corgi (Pembroke)

Lovely 6 year old bitch of correct size and type, showing the balance of substance and femininity. Well-proportioned head with a foxy expression. Skull and muzzle of equal length with a slight but definite stop; clean jaw with correct dentition. Neck of moderate length, blending smoothly into a well-laid shoulder. Chest is deep and well-ribbed, showing correct length to height ratio. Level topline held firm on the move. Movement was sound and true both coming and going, with a free and purposeful gait viewed from the side, showing excellent reach and drive.Handled correctly to bring out her best qualities. She worked well with her handler and maintained a calm, confident attitude throughout.
