Blackpool & Fylde Toy Dog Society Open Show

30th March 2025

Judge: Richard Lee (Kelrick)

Breed: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

I would like to thank the committee of the Blackpool & Fylde Toy Dog Society for inviting me to judge at their lovely, well-organised show. It was a pleasure to be part of such a friendly event, with plenty of thoughtful extras for exhibitors that really added to the day. Thanks also to my steward, Dave Bumford, who kept the ring running smoothly, and to the exhibitors for their support and sporting attitudes.

Puppy: (5,3)

1st Callaghan & Todd’s Callyspride Cedric. Richly coloured Blenheim puppy dog of 9 months with a lovely soft, expressive look and dark, appealing eyes. He has a clean head, good length of muzzle, and good pigment throughout. Ears well set, with a decent coat coming through. Still quite slim in build but showing maturity beyond his age. Well-balanced overall with good reach of neck and pleasing outline. A promising young male who moved out steadily and showed with confidence. Best Puppy in Breed.

2nd Taylor’s Luvtayls Faith in Dreams. 6-month-old petite Blenheim puppy bitch. Heavily marked with dark eyes and a well-pigmented dark nose. She has less coat at this stage and is still developing in balance but shows plenty of promise. Less mature than the winner and needs time to settle and body up. A sweet baby with lots to like.

Junior: (5,0)

1st Hartill-Speak’s Verheyen Woody Under Gracewincavs. A quality 13-month-old dog who presents a pleasing overall picture. He has a lovely, soft expression, enhanced by large, dark, expressive eyes and well-set ears. Well-presented in good coat with well-broken markings and rich pigment throughout. Correct scissor bite, clean in outline, and balanced in construction. He moved soundly and with confidence, holding his topline well. A well-made youngster with much promise and plenty to like.

2nd Kilcoyne’s Granasil Bird in the Hand. An attractive 12-month-old Black & Tan bitch with a lovely, silky raven black coat of good length with rich tan markings. She has dark, expressive eyes, a correct scissor bite, and a pleasing earset. There is enough cushioning to give her a soft and gentle expression. She is a very nice type with plenty of promise and she moved well with reach and drive around the ring.

Graduate: (5,0)

1st Parsons’ Anjomil Moonflower JW. 17-month-old well-balanced young bitch who caught my eye for her overall quality and type. She has good angulation and a lovely soft expression, with dark eyes and correct cushioning. Presents a strong topline, moved very well with drive, and has a good tail set. Her coat is of pleasing length and texture and finished with a Blenheim Spot. A very happy, typical Cavalier who showed herself well and was a delight to judge.

2nd Hartill-Speak’s Verheyen Woody Under Gracewincavs. (See Junior)

Post Graduate: (5,1)

1st Taylor’s Luvtayls Flashdance. Heavily marked 2-year-old tri-colour bitch with excellent length of coat. She has a soft melting expression, with dark eyes and good pigment. Her coat was silky, well-presented, and in lovely condition. She held her tail well on the move and moved soundly and with purpose. A quality exhibit shown in great form.

2nd Waddington’s Spindlepoint Gertie Jekyll. 2-year-old compact, smaller Blenheim bitch with a lovely head and a soft, gentle expression. She moved well with balance and confidence. Her coat was of reasonable length and texture, and she had dark eyes and a well-pigmented nose. A very pleasing type with lots of charm and femininity.

Limit: (4,0)

1st Taylor’s Luvtayls Newsflash. A stunning 2-year-old Blenheim dog, beautifully presented in super coat. I have judged him before as a youngster and it was lovely to see how he has matured - he has developed beautifully. He impressed with his ideal proportions and overall balance. Dark, expressive eyes enhanced his lovely soft expression. Well broken markings and a gentle, masculine appearance. He moved with confidence and purpose, holding his topline well. Good bite and lovely temperament - an eye-catching boy of real quality. Delighted to award him Best of Breed.

2nd Chapman’s Eikandi Amaretto at Daltonian. A compact 3-year-old Ruby bitch with good balance and outline. She has a sweet, melting expression, aided by dark eyes and good cushioning. Good level topline. Coat of good length and texture, presented in lovely condition. She moved well and showed steadily. A very honest and feminine exhibit who pushed hard for top honours.

Open: (7,3)

1st Taylor’s Revdvicki Heavenly Chance. A well-balanced 3-year-old Tri dog with a lovely silky coat. Presented in super condition and handled to advantage. He has good tan markings, a super head, and soft, dark eyes that give a pleasing expression. Not the most heavily coated in the class, but a very flashy, eye-catching dog with a happy, outgoing temperament. Moved soundly and confidently to take the class. RBOB

2nd Slack’s Willowheart Louis VW. 9-year-old, lively Blenheim dog with a soft, expressive look and dark eyes. Good ear placement and length of leathers. Presented in lovely condition and moved with enthusiasm. A nicely constructed dog with plenty of charm and presence in the ring.

Breed: King Charles Spaniel

Open: (1,0)

1st McFarlane’s Gracie Maradeco King. 4-year-old Black and Tan bitch with a silky coat of reasonable length. She is longer cast than ideal but displays several breed-typical features. Skull moderately large in proportion to size, well domed and full over the eyes. She has a short, well-turned-up black nose with large, open nostrils. Stop is well defined, and her muzzle is square, wide, and deep with good turn-up. Cheeks are well cushioned, giving a soft and typical expression. Slightly undershot bite correct for the breed. Her movement lacked fluency on the day. BOB.
