Judges’ Critiques The Basset Hound Club Of Wales 05.10.25.

My thanks to the officers and committee for their invitation to judge at their show and for all their hospitality on the day. Thank you to all those who exhibited their beautiful Bassets under me on the day. I had a thoroughly enjoyable day with you all and one I will remember for a long time.

Veteran Dog 2 entries.

1st Allchorne CH Nelgus Thyme Bomb.

I loved this 9 year old tri who is so well balanced throughout with nothing exaggerated and still showing as if he were a youngster. Typical head with a domed skull, correct head planes, low set ears and calm expression from his lozenge shaped eyes. Well arched neck leads down to his excellent front with his shoulders well laid back and his fore chest fitting well into his crooked front all supported by his strong forelegs. Ample depth to his well rounded chest with his ribs extending well back and keeping his back level. Powerful rear with his stifles well bent, covered in strong muscles and well let down hocks. On the move he carried his tail up in a gentle curve, showing both reach and drive to his effortless movement. Pleased to award him best dog, best in show and best veteran in show.

2nd Gwyer Korteb N Dwarf King.

Another well balanced dog of nearly 11 years of age again with everything in moderation. Excellent head and eyes all carried well by his long, muscular neck. Good front with his legs underneath supporting the weight well and with his chest deep and broad. His rear compliments his front and on the move he was true coming and going with an effortless stride.

1st Melbourne & Murray Diheath Cracker.

Quality tri colour, balanced both in his outline and on the move. Handsome head with his muzzle slightly longer than his stop to occiput and slight wrinkling on his brows. Well laid shoulders all fitting well around his body with ample bone to his forelegs and large feet. Well-rounded ribs with his underline clear of the ground and his back level. Muscular rear with stifles set at correct angles and good strong hocks. On the move he covered the ground effortlessly with good reach and drive.

Very typical red and white with everything in moderation. Domed skull with slight stop and expressive lozenge shaped eyes. Well made front with his shoulders well laid and good return of upper arms. Well boned forelegs which support his deep body well giving him a crook front. Long, level back leading to his strong, muscular rear with well bent stifles and standing well on his hind legs. On the move he covered the ground with a powerful, smooth gait carrying his tail well up. Reserve Best Dog.

1st Davies Bidon Guernica (IMP POL).

Masculine red and white of good proportions. Pleasing head with correct head planes, slight stop, expressive lozenge shaped eyes and low set ears of correct length. Strong front with ample bone and broad feet and shoulders well laid back. Ample depth and width of chest with his ribs well rounded, extending far back. Strong rear with stifles well bent and well let down hocks. He moved with an effortless stride covering the ground well.

1st Jones Clanwillow Fire And Ice.

Masculine tri colour moderately built throughout. Loved his head of correct proportions with a domed skull, lozenge shaped eyes and all tapering well to his muzzle. Well-made front that supports his body correctly with ample bone to his forelegs and his shoulders well laid back. Deep in his chest reaching just past elbows but with sufficient ground clearance and with his ribs extending well back. Complimenting rear with muscular, well bent stifles and well let down hocks. His movement was effortless with excellent reach and drive.

Red and white who is well balanced throughout. Good head and eye shape with his ears low set of sufficient length. Good front with his chest deep and well supported by his legs. Ample depth and width of chest with his back level. Muscular rear complimenting his front and when moving effortlessly showing great drive.

Handsome red and white who is so typically built. Excellent head proportions with a domed skull, lozenge shaped expressive eyes and ample length to his low set ears. Ample bone to his forelegs with large well padded feet and he has well laid back shoulders with good return of upper arms. His chest is deep and broad with good ground clearance. Complimenting rear with strong muscle and stifles well bent. On the move he carried his tail up covering the ground with an effortless long striding action.

Well balanced tri colour moderately built throughout. Masculine head of correct proportions, with excellent expression. Muscular neck leading to his well-made front supported well by his strong forelegs. Ample depth and with to his chest with his back level. Powerful rear with his stifles well bent and strong hocks. He moved with long, effortless strides.

On the move he covered the ground with an effortless, long reaching stride with great drive from his rear.

1st Strudwick Armardio Ride Like The Wind Among Kumamatata.

Powerfully built masculine dog of typical proportions. Correct head with a domed skull, slight stop and good head planes. Expressive lozenge shaped eyes with his ears set on low and of correct length. Correctly set front with his upper arms lying close to his deep chest and forming a crooked front all supported well by his strong forelegs. Ample ground clearance to hips deep chest with ribs well rounded and extending well back. His rear has well bent stifles with strong muscles and well let down hocks. He moved with good reach to his front and drive from his rear.

2nd Jones Clanwillow The Emerald King JWW22.

Red and white dog who is well balanced and has the correct proportions throughout. Good head with a domed skull, strong muzzle and lozenge shaped eyes all carried well by his long, muscular neck. Well made front with his shoulders set well around his body and giving a crook to his front. Well boned forelegs supporting his weight well and large, well-padded feet. Well ribbed up in his body with his back sufficiently long and level. His rear has well bent stifles and he stands well on his rear feet. On the move he carried his tail up correctly and covered the ground effortlessly.

Beautiful red and white presented in excellent condition. Feminine head of medium width and tapering to her muzzle. Low set ears of correct length and beautiful, expressive eyes. Ample bone to her front with large well-padded feet and a well laid back shoulders. Her body is deep reaching just passed her elbows and with rounded ribs extending well back. Muscular rear with her stifles well bent and good strong hocks. On the move she covered the ground effortlessly.

Beautifully built red and white who already is showing great promise for the future. Loved her typical head with a domed skull, lozenge shaped expressive eyes and low set ears that reached to the end of her nose. Long, muscular well arched neck leads down to her well laid back shoulders with balancing return of upper arms and strong, well boned legs supporting the weight of her crooked front. Ample depth to her chest with her ribs well rounded and extending well back to her loin. Level in her backline with a good tail set which she carried up when moving. Good strong rear quarters with her stifles well bent and she stands well on her rear legs. On the move she was true coming and going with excellent reach and drive. Best Puppy Bitch and later I was pleased to award her Best Puppy In Show.

Another young bitch so full of quality and showing great promise for the future. Typical in her head with excellent head planes, slight stop and beautiful expression from her dark, lozenge shaped eyes. Excellent front with good bone and her shoulders fitting well around her crooked front. Her body has ample depth and width and her back is level. To her rear she has well bent stifles and strong well let down hocks. She moved effortlessly around the ring showing both reach and drive.

She moved effortlessly when she settled into her stride.

Well laid shoulders to her front with her fore chest prominent and supported well by her well boned legs. Ample depth to her chest with her ribbing extending well back. Well bent stifles to her rear complimenting her front and with strong muscles. On the move she was effortless covering the ground well.

Compactly built red and white of correct size and once again full of bree type. Beautiful head and eyes with good ears that reach to tip of nose. Good front with shoulders well laid and balancing return of upper arms. Her body is deep reaching just passed her elbows but with sufficient ground clearance. Muscular rear that complimented her front and on the move she had an effortless striding action.

Ample bone to her forelegs and large, well-padded feet that support her front well. Her body has well rounded ribs that extend well back and she has a level back. Complimenting rear with her stifles muscular and well bent. She moved with a powerful, effortless action around the ring.

She moved effortlessly around the ring.
