Dover & Deal Canine Society

Members’ Limited Show – 21 September 2025

It was a pleasure to judge at this well run show which was obviously appreciated by the Society’s members. This must make it so worthwhile for the hard working and hospitable Committee. Thank you for inviting me to officiate.

AVNSC Pastoral

P (3 1). 1 Coates’ Durrcor Luna Eclipse Lovely red and white 10 month old Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Striking, clean and well developed outline for one so young. Foxy style head which was well proportioned with good muzzle to skull ratio, darkest of eyes and well set ears of good shape. She stood on lovely straight legs and good feet. Strong neck which flowed well into wither and firm topline which was level. Pleasing depth of body and in lovely condition. Shoulders were well placed and of good angulation. Good width of thigh. Understandably needs to develop a little more depth of brisket and a touch more hind angulation with maturity. Very pleasing on the move where she was workmanlike, purposeful with correct reach and drive. Very pleased to award her Best AVNSC Pastoral Puppy. 2. Walker’s Parabar Pelatory’s Persue . 9 month old Lancashire Heeler chap who was displayed an exuberant disposition. Overall outline was one of good proportions being slightly longer than tall. Masculine head with good strength to jaw and muzzle, without exaggeration and was clean. Darkest of eyes and his head was of good shape front on. Pleasing width of front although I would have liked straighter front legs. His topline was firm and angulation at shoulder was equal to that at rear. He had a lovely width of thigh which was powerful. Combined with his good strong hocks this gave him very good powerful and straight movement from behind, but he was a little erratic in front. Plenty of time for this boy.

J (1) Walker’s Parabar Pelatory’s Persue.

PG (9 2) This was such a good class and a pleasure to judge. It was no disgrace to be unplaced. Each exhibit shown had virtues which appealed to me. 1. Fox’s Sambreeze Pingviini. There was a confident and showy outline on this 4 ½ year old black, tan and white male Finnish Lapphund. His head was masculine with good muzzle, shorter than skull, but strong and he had a well defined stop and super dark eyes. Used his ears which were well set to throw an appealing expression. His neck was strong and of medium length being set well into wither. Lovely straight front, good legs and feet. Just enough width to chest and elbow slightly below brisket. Pleasing topline and croup. Short loin and pleasing ribbing. His angles matched back and forth. On the move he was agile and brisk with just the right amount of stride in profile, but with a slight roll. Although very smart and eyecatching, I would have preferred a touch more length of body to height at wither and it was this that cost him in the challenge. He was however, more than deserving of Reserve Best AVNSC Pastoral. 2. Milham’s Droyales One and Only at Shadowshack JW. I was quite taken with this lovely GSD girl who although only 19 months really held her own. I thought her outline very pleasing with strength, yet elegance and completely free from exaggeration. Feminine headpiece which complemented her body shape, being extremely well proportioned from all angles. She had lovely eyes and ear which lent themselves to a wonderful expression. Lovely depth and width of front with good bone and feet, although I would have liked a touch more length of foreleg which may come with time. Excellent neck and topline which was not too short, but level and flowing well into croup and hindquarters. Her angles fore and aft were equal and balanced and she had depth of body. Her movement was easy and athletic, holding her topline and outline throughout with lovely ground covering stride. 3. Rizzo Hills Gravelous Buszke Bocskor. Hungarian Pumi male.

O (3 1) 1. Keeling’s Montydom White Riot in Wisley. 4 year old white Hungarian Puli male who simply could not fail to stand foursquare demonstrating lovely balance both standing and on the move. Despite his pleasing full corded coat he was in no way cloddy or coarse and it was a pleasure to lay hands and feel the desired fine bone and good body shape beneath which projected such a positive outline when overlaid with the coat. Scored in head for shape and size with good ear and expression emanating from well shaped dark eyes. Correctly set neck into good shoulder and correct depth of body. Wonderful firm topline good ribbing and short strong loin. Pleasing rear angulation. His quarters were well used on the move which was brisk, easy, unencumbered. He had drive yet without any overreaching and held his topline and overall shape throughout. Very sound and I could not deny him Best AVNSC Pastoral. 2. Winfield’s Daleabbey’s Apple Pie at Brownieglen. A mature and very well developed red and white Pembroke Welsh Corgi lady of 6 ½ years old. I liked her excellent shoulders which were well laid and easily matched by her good turn of stifle. Very deep chest which was of good width. Lovely headpiece which was typically foxlike, well shaped and enhanced with a pleasing expression and excellent dentition. She stood on good straight legs and feet. Strong neck flowed cleanly into a level back of correct length culminating in a good croup and tailset. Not quite the overall condition of the winner and whilst very sound on the move was a touch restricted in front which cost her today.

V (1) 1. Nash’s Davankirk Primrose Main. Stately and regal Bearded Collie lady of 11 years old who was of the most lovely brown and white colour. Lovely headpiece with melting expression coming from her lovely well set eyes of good colour. Pleasing front which was of strength and depth and she had adequate length of leg to show some light under the body. In profile her outline flowed nicely and she was fairly well balanced holding her topline firm and level. Lovely coat and croup and good hind angulation. She was totally sound, but not the most enthusiastic on the move. It was, however, the end of the day and she still moved out with good length of stride. A lovely veteran and I was pleased to make her Best AVNSC Pastoral Veteran.

AVNSC Working

O (3 1) 1. Wilson’s Thorpaige What a Kerfuffle JW. I was very pleased with the classy outline on this brindle and white boxer girl of 3 years old. Her good clean lines flowed from head to tail with no hard angles, each part easing into the next which made her so good to go over. She had elegance, but certainly was not lacking in strength being very well muscled particularly behind. Head was of good shape with muzzle in good proportion to skull which gave for a good jaw and chin, lovely stop and expression. She had excellent dark eyes, was in no way cheeky and just the right amount of thickness to lips which were clean. Lovely arched and strong neck which flowed well into a slightly sloping and level topline. Good depth of body at brisket but I would have liked a touch more forechest for her age. Lovely straight legs and feet front on. Very pleasing in underline her overall outline was not far off square given her good coupling and lovely angulation fore and aft. On the move, she had an athletic and vigorous gait really striding out with drive whilst maintaining her outline. I was only too pleased to award her Best AVNSC Working. 2. Osborne’s Nexgen All Eyez on Me. Charming Leonberger girl of 5 ½ years. I very much liked her head which was elongated rather than blocky yet still had strength of muzzle without compromising her sex. Lovely eye and correct stop, she had the most captivating and gentle of expressions. Lovely neck which was of strength without being overdone and flowed into a good wither. I loved her shoulders which were well angulated and put her elbows well under her body. I would have preferred a touch more width and depth to body throughout, but she stood on lovely straight legs and fabulous feet which are often absent in the breed!. Her topline was true and firm, but being slightly higher at the rear than wither I felt a touch more hind angulation would complete overall balance. Lovely height to body ratio. She moved around the ring effortlessly and workmanlike actually letting down a little behind to give her the easy, strong stride the breed requires. Lovely girl, just not quite the balance of the boxer today.

V (1) 1. Nicholls’ Arcticskies Got it Flaunt it for Shyllar VW. This 11 year old Siberian Husky lady was shown in the most super condition and her overall balance was such that she could do it all on her own with minimum input from her handler. Excellent quarters for shape, angulation and development which threw a very attractive outline. I thought she had a lovely head from all angles; her skull was not too broad and blended so well, but perceptively into muzzle. Lively and alert expression, she was standing on an excellent front, for legs bone and depth and width of chest. Good neck which was well set into wither and topline. Her overall body was quite deep and I might have preferred a touch more elegance, but as a veteran I think she is more than permitted to have a slightly fuller figure! Very easy and light of foot on the move yet always using those good quarters she certainly did not let the Boxer have it all her own way. Very pleased to award her Best AVNSC Working Veteran and Reserve Best AVNSC Working.
