Miniature Smooth-Haired Dachshund

O (3 2) 1. Strange’s Bronia’s Armand at Cazdachs. Mature 3 year old red male who was very developed in body for width and depth. Although very strong in front, overall I found him to be of fairly well balanced proportions with good shaped, clean head and neck leading into reasonably angulated shoulders. Excellent dark eye with intelligent and lively expression and his ears were not set too low. He was presented in lovely condition with pleasing musculature throughout and particularly across the hindquarters which were used to great advantage on the move. Good ribbing and ratio of rib cage to loin. Carried himself very well on the move with great action behind both in profile and going away. Best of Breed.

Miniature Long-Haired Dachshund

P (2) 1. Neasby’s Erinshore Red Robin for Ulani. Very smart 8 month shaded red male who immediately created an impression for general balance and proportions. Scored in head with good ratio of muzzle to skull. Slightly tapering muzzle but without compromising strength and correct slightly arched skull framed by well set and feathered ears which he used to enhance his expression. Developing well in front with good neck set into pleasing shoulder and topline. Angles fore and aft were fairly well matched and although a touch restricted in front movement he was still very young and had plenty of ground clearance beneath body with particularly good drive. In the challenge he demonstrated the best movement and whilst his coat may still be developing it did highlight his very good construction so I was very pleased to award him Best of Breed, Best Puppy, Hound Group 4 and Puppy Group 1. 2. Valentine’s Lampcien Fatal Attraction for Tiffwazz. Attractive 6 months black and tan bitch who was slightly unsettled on the day. Very much a baby and therefore slightly up on her topline, but very nicely proportioned and standing on super feet. Just enough width and depth of front and body for age she has time to fill into her frame. Not quite the head of the winner, but lovely dark eye and well-set ear which was used to advantage. Her shoulders were well set and she just needs to drop into develop greater angulation behind as she grows on and matures, but she had a lovely powerful and full rump. She didn’t necessarily make the best of herself on the move being a touch overwhelmed but when she settled she demonstrated an easy action. Lots of time for this girl. PG (2 1) 1. Edwards-Everett & Everett’s Emeraldax Naked Kiss. 18 months cream bitch with an elegant outline which pleased me for her ratio between height to length of body. Attractive, well shaped head with pleasing strength and length of muzzle which was in proportion to body. Very good shoulder angulation which will be complemented further if she develops greater depth of chest as she matures. That said, front on she gave a pleasing shape and standing on good feet and legs. Topline was strong and held well on the stand and I liked her ratio of rib-cage to loin. She moved out soundly and with drive although a little down in front today which cost her in the challenge. Hopefully she will finish well. Reserve Best of Breed. O (1) 1. Broad’s Bronia Wolfgang Puck. 4 year old red dog who impressed me with his lovely forehand which appealed to me for make and shape from all angles. Proud, well shaped headpiece with lovely muzzle and slightly arched skull. He was clean through neck into the best of shoulders, supported by good chest of width and depth with elbows close to body resulting in well positioned legs and standing on super feet. His neck was so well into wither flowing nicely with good ribbing and keel. I found him to be slightly weak in topline and croup today which was evident on the move and sadly cost him in the challenge, but nonetheless a dog with many virtues.  

Rhodesian Ridgeback

P (3) This class was something of a challenge with three exhibits each at different stages of development and as such different make an shape on the day. 1 and 2 were litter brother and sister of almost 12 months whilst 3 was significantly younger at 7 months. 1. Nevison’s Bikquest Helios Sunreacher. Tall, powerful boy who had almost outgrown himself at the moment appearing a touch rangy. That said, when settled he had a clean and most balanced outline of the 3 in this class with angles fore and aft corresponding fairly well. Quite handsome in head with lovely expression and eye. Good length of neck if a touch throaty. Forechest development was evident and coming together nicely. Pleasing in underline and firm in back although naturally this should settle when he lets down behind. Excellent croup. Quite impressive on the move where he was true on the out and back with good athletic stride when gaiting freely around the ring. 2. Nevison’s Bikquest Sunshine Ember. Feminine puppy of reasonable symmetry being of even angulation at shoulder and stifle although I would prefer slightly more angulation in both. She stood on a good straight front and I preferred her feet to those of the winner. Her head was balanced and in proportion body and she looked at me with well seat ears and a pleasing expression. Topline and underline were good and held both standing and on the move. Another free moving puppy when settled, but not the development of body of the winner today. 3. Sendecka’s Brave Bella Two Hounds.

J (1) 1. Nevison’s Bikquest Envy Blazing Star. Very good litter sister to 1 and 2 in puppy and of similar good quality. I felt overall she displayed a more mature, balanced outline and she pleased me for her strength whilst retaining elegance and femininity. Scored in head from all angles with enough width across the skull and strength to jaw without being exaggerated. Clean length neck of neck but could be cleaner across the wither for which I would have like slightly more angulation at point of shoulder. She stood on a clean, straight front with adequate width and depth she is developing well. Topline and underline pleased me and she was of correct length of back completed by a good strong croup. Like her litter-mates she had a free, lithe and easy movement from all angles and particularly good coming and going away from me. She was not dissimilar to Open winner in the challenge but could not yet match her outline, however I was more than pleased to award her Best Puppy, Reserve Best of Breed and Hound Puppy Group 4 . PG (3) A challenging class. 1. Healey’s Kiromol Reckon I’m Hot. Sightly unsettled bitch of almost 2 ½ who won with easily the most balanced and symmetrical outline of the class. Standing on very good feet, she was foursquare without covering too much ground and very honest. I liked her well laid shoulders which were of good angulation matching the angle at stifle and her quarters were well supported by a good topline and loin. I found her head to be the more typical of the three here and in proportion to her body shape and it was mounted on a neck which flowed cleanly into the topline. Whilst sound on the move, I found her to be rather weak behind when going away from me which ultimately cost her in the next class. 2. Parker’s Asharaa’s She’s Magic to Azuli. Slightly younger girl who was actually quite showy and outgoing, naturally making the best of herself. Not quite the head and muzzle of the winner, but had a lively and intelligent expression, using her well-set ear to advantage. Another who scored in neck for length, strength and set. Reasonable topline but I would have like a more fulsome croup for completeness both standing and on the move. Pleasing straight legs front on with just enough depth of chest for age. Good underline and loin which was of enough depth. 3. Berman & Leaning’s Okameeli’s Ayo Kanzi. O (3) 1. Parker’s Ch. Kirmol As You Like It with Azuli JW. Extremely well balanced bitch who could not stand wrong. At 7 ½ she has retained her well proportioned quarters of good depth and width and put down in lovely condition. No hard angles with each part flowing into the next, I was unsurprised to read later that she has her title; clearly well deserved. She has strength to head, but being of good shape there is no doubt as to her sex. Clean lips, excellent dentition and lovely eyes. Very clean through neck which is set well into wither. She stood on a good, strong front with correct depth and width of body throughout. True in topline with slight arch to the loin. Correct angulation of shoulder and turn of stifle. Quarters were put to great use on the move which was fluid, easy and athletic. Very much deserved Best of Breed and Hound Group 3. 2. Mitchelson’s Amahle Red Hot Zephyr at Voortrekker. 3 ½ year old boy who was shown in excellent condition. Clearly fit for function with his wonderful musculature and pleasing size and substance. Masculine headpiece and perhaps a touch broad in backskull but good muzzle and expression. Neck was strong of good carriage and led into a pleasing front of correct width and depth. Clean through wither and topline which flowed well into good stifles of correct angulation and particularly strong hocks. A little erratic on the move which let him down but this was possibly due to change of handler. I’m sure there will be other days for this boy. 3. Healey’s Kiromol Reckon I’m Hot.

AVNSC Hound

P (3 2) 1. McLean’s Lauralee Dreams of Magic at Stookewood. Basset Hound. 8 Months red & white girl who presented a fairly well balanced outline with her lovely well laid shoulders of correct angulation. Due to her age it was obvious that she would need to let down a little more behind which to enhance topline and complete the picture, but there was nothing of concern in this department given her lovely width of thigh. I liked her head with pleasing line of muzzle almost parallel to skull of good even proportions from all angles and her ears were of good length and texture. Well developed in forechest and forelegs which were well boned. Carried herself very well on the move with strong action from the rear maintaining her outline. Although standing alone a very well deserved Best AVNSC Puppy and later Hound Puppy Group 3. J (6 1) This was a very good class and particularly close between 1 & 2. 1. Threadgold’s Laakso Katja. Naturally stylish and showy Norwegian Elkhound of just 16 months. Stood foursquare without covering too much ground and gave a good account of herself on the move where she gaited with good carriage, purpose and positive action from all quarters. Pleasing wedge shaped and spit-like head with good breadth between the ears complimented by high-set, neat, erect ear. I liked her angulation of shoulder, corresponding turn of stifle and good topline which was proportionate to length of leg. Very nice young lady who impressed me enough to take Reserve Best AVNSC. 2. Hamilton’s Artilily Bronte. Attractive silver grizzle Saluki lady of 16 months. Very pleasing in outline which was elegant, of symmetry with pleasing slight rise over the loin, although I would have I would have this to be slightly greater length. Attractive headpiece and clean neck of length which flowed smoothly into wither given her well laid shoulder and enough slope to upper arm. I found her body to be developing nicely with pleasing tuck-up. She was standing on good bone and feet with lovely hindquarters and very well muscled. Stylish and easy on the move but a touch wide going away from me which cost her against the winner. 3. Allchin’s Laakso Kindamenttobe For Carolon. Norwegian Elkhound. PG (3) Another 3 exhibits that were a pleasure to judge. 1. Giles-Wyatt’s Clarismore Crown Prince. 2 year old tricolour Beagle boy who was masculine and compact without being overdone or coarse in any way. Strong and masculine in head without being heavy in lip or flews with kind eye and expression. Good proportion of muzzle to skull which was set atop a good neck. This led very nicely into a strong front of width and depth. Firm topline, good length of back and good turn of stifle which was good of width. Sound, steady and even on the move he was a pleasure to have in the challenge. 2. Wilson’s Delsaux Happy Ever After. Shaded red Long-Haired Dachshund girl of 16 months who was close up to the winner. She presented a clean well proportioned outline with adequate clearance under her body to demonstrate her fitness for function. I liked her angles fore and aft and thought we was very nicely constructed in front with plenty of chest without being exaggerated. She had lovely deet and a strong pleasingly shaped front when viewed front-on. Very good shaped head with terrific dentition. She used her good quarters to advantage on the move, just slightly losing her topline at the crucial moment when being compared to the winner. 3. Valentine’s Empetthounds Genesis Into Tiffwazz. Smooth-Haired Dachshund. O (6) Another challenging dual between 1 and 2 and for all the right reasons! 1. Woodgate, Boggia & De-Souza’s Xandu Khan Schuru-Esch-Schams (Imp Deu). I found a beautifully athletic and well crafted hound in this 7 ½ year old Sloughi male. Lean and elegant but so athletic and with his excellent musculature he retained a correct level of masculinity. I thought him superbly balanced and he could not fail to stand foursquare with minimum intervention from his handler. His head is so well-moulded with super eye and expression and carried so well; a real nobility about this dog that defies you to ignore him. Angulation both fore and aft was as one would require for his build and function and lent themselves so well to his clean, effortless and easy movement. There was everything to like about this lad that I was delighted to award him Best AVNSC and ultimately Hound Group 1. 2. Boydell’s Nightwind You Can’t Stop The Beat JW. A smashing black Afghan Hound male of 8 years who was shown in the most excellent condition and pressed the winner hard. Lovely headpiece, nobly carried with correct obliquely set eye and typical oriental expression. He had strength to jaw without exaggeration. Length of neck pleased me greatly leading into lovely forequarters. Excellent length of leg, topline and correct hipbones which were well set apart when looking down on him. He scored highly in hindquarters and muscle which he used with ease to freely gait around the ring. 3. Sutton’s Kindpeace Texas Tornado at Damai. Long-Haired Dachshund.

AV Imported Breed Register Hound

O (1) 1. Searle’s Stonemartin Bron. A 3 year old Azawakh girl with lean, elegant and dry outline. I loved her grace of form which each constituent part flowing into the next which was evident when placing one’s hand on her for physical assessment. Her head was feminine and certainly not out of place being nicely in proportion to body and mounted on a good neck. I particularly liked her good topline and ratio of rib to loin with correct hipbones. Graceful and easy gait which was well served by her good condition and quarters. Best AV Imported Register Hound.

P (5 4) 1. Nevison’s Bikquest Sunshine Ember. Rhodesian Ridgeback. J (9 2) 1. Crosse’s Cairnstorm Lullaby. An Irish Wolfhound brindle bitch of 12 months old who headed a very good class. Lovely size and bone contributed to an outline which combined strength with the necessary elegance for her breed and age. Well proportioned head with slightly tapering muzzle with good strong jaw and very kind eye. Clean in neck which was of good length flowing well into topline with rise over the loin. Her depth of chest and body together with angles fore and aft were just as I would expect for her age and should develop further with maturity to complete the picture. A lovely girl with great foundations for the future she demonstrated a lithe, easy and athletic gait from all angles. 2. Threadgold’s Laakso Katja. Norwegian Elkhound. 3. Hamilton’s Artilily Bronte. Saluki.

PG (6 2) 1. Smith’s Palmik I Believe In You at Cryhavoc. 18 month old brindle whippet girl who had the most lovely forehand from her well shaped through neck, shoulders, chest, legs and feet. She had a pleasing width in front which did not compromise her function or femininity. In profile her height to length of body ratio was very good. I would have preferred slightly more arch over the loin but she had a very good underline and just enough hind angulation that it did not detract significantly. Once settled on the move she presented a sound and easy action. 2. Wilson’s Boughton Busy Lizzie for Hamiltonhall. Another Whippet girl, fawn white trim and of similar age to the winner being 20 months. She was quite close up to the winner with her clean, elegant and shapely outline although I found her to be slightly longer cast and slightly steeper in croup. Very attractive and feminine head which was in proportion to body and mounted on a clean length of neck. She was standing in a good front with correct width throughout. She used her quarters well and to advantage on the move giving a good account of herself. 3. Seviour’s Stonefox Pathfinder at Osterfen. O (1) 1. Strange’s Bronia’s Armand at Cazdachs. Miniature Smooth-Haired Dachshund.

V (7 1) This was a terrific class and such a pleasure to judge. All six were of significant merit and a credit to their owners. 1. Woodgate, Boggia & De-Souza’s Xandu Khan Schuru-Esch-Schams (Imp Deu). Sloughi. 2. Parker’s Ch. Kirmol As You Like It with Azuli JW. Rhodesian Ridegback. 3. Nicholls’ Ch. Nganga’s It’s One Heck of a Storm. Basenji.

Hound Group

1. Woodgate, Boggia & De-Souza’s Xandu Khan Schuru-Esch-Schams (Imp Deu). Sloughi. 2. Edwards’ Silkridge Yoko Ono. Whippet. Stylish and classy brindle and white bitch of 6 years. Very symmetrical and balanced in outline which was so clean. As one would expect for her age she fitted her skin like a glove with all constituent parts flowing neatly into the other which constantly brough my eyes back to her. Correct depth of body and adequate width throughout. Unsurprisingly she moved out extremely well with easy yet purposeful action. 3. Parker’s Ch. Kirmol As You Like It with Azuli JW. Rhodesian Ridegback. 4. . Neasby’s Erinshore Red Robin for Ulani. Miniature Long-Haired Dachshund.

Hound Puppy Group

1. Neasby’s Erinshore Red Robin for Ulani. Miniature Long-Haired Dachshund. 2. Hunter’s Katiesue’s Attraction at Salatini. Whippet. Most promising brindle and white prospect this baby girl was just 6 months. So pleasing in overall outline which demonstrated balance being very well proportioned. Most attractive in head and expression with lovely eye and neck. Angles fore and aft together with body shape were as I would expect at this age. I liked her very much. She pressed hard in the group but was slightly erratic on the move when compared to the powerhouse that was the winner. Plenty of time for this young lady. 3. McLean’s Lauralee Dreams of Magic at Stookewood. Basset Hound. 4. Nevison’s Bikquest Envy Blazing Star. Rhodesian Ridgeback.

Rottweiler

P (2 1) 1. Allen’s TK’s Face Time (Imp SRB) . Exciting 10 month old puppy dog who presented an extremely well developed and balanced outline for his age. He had strength and good depth and width to quarters which were adequately angulated. Very good bone and substance he was masculine without being exaggerated. He scored very highly in head with correct proportion of skull to muzzle both front on and in profile which was complemented by his lovely dark eyes and well set ears. Excellent front with straight front and super feet and elbows close to body. He was firm in back which was of correct length with good underline. Sound as a bell on the move with correct and workmanlike reach and drive. He was quite impressive from all angles and I could not deny him Best of Breed and Best Puppy. I was delighted to see him do so well in the group competitions. J (1) 1. Gauron & Viner’s Javladare Hearty Goes Boom. Fairly well proportioned boy of 15 months who was developing nicely for his age. A good head which was not too broad in backskull and in proportion to body. Strong neck which led into a very good front with well laid shoulders, the angulation of which corresponded well to angulation at stifle. Good width across the front, but just needing to fill out slightly at elbow. Good rib and loin and another who moved out extremely well. Very true on the out and back and an impressive gait in profile. PG (1) 1. De Vries’ Abacab’s Fading Lights. Mature bitch of almost 4 years who appealed for her lovely head an expression with correct expression emanating from pleasing eye and well set ears. Standing on good bone she was of substance and pleasing length of body corresponding well to length of leg. Strong neck which flowed cleanly through wither and into a firm topline. She had good depth of body in profile and pleasing underline. Stright font, but tended to stand a little wide which impacted movement when coming towards me. Good width to rump and very well angulated at rear. O (1) 1. Ktichenside’s Deltarott Din Djarin JW. Free moving , powerful 2 year old dog shown in good condition. Masculine without being coarse he stood on good strong bone supporting depth and width of body. Strong head which was proportionate to his overall outline, make and shape. Correct neck, chest and elbows close to body but I would have preferred greater angulation at point of shoulder and cleaner wither. That said, his topline was firm and true with good loin and correct underline. His croup was strong and full leading into a good turn of stifle. Reserve Best of Breed.

Siberian Husky

J (2 1) 1. Gauntlett’s Eirakee’s You Go Glen Coco (AI). 14 month od bitch of striking colour with pleasing length of body to height at wither. Overall she presented a good outline with useful angles fore and aft. Head was of adequate strength for body and correctly representative of her sex being nicely chiselled and enhanced with well set ears. For size and substance she presented a happy medium between racy and heavy, although as one would expect for her age she needs to develop a little more in body as she matures. She held her topline well both standing and on the move where she was light, sound yet capable of working. PG (3 2) 1. Dumbarton’s Howlvalley’s Lemon Drizzle. A young red and white male of 15 months who had an elegance of outline without compromising his masculinity and he stood on good moderate bone. Foxy shaped head with pleasing muzzle. Maturing nicely he had adequate fill to body with pleasing shoulder and topline. He was good to go over with no hard angles and presented in good condition. His form followed function on the move. Reserve Best of Breed 2. Simms’ Arcticskies Warrior Queen. Another quality exhibit in this grey and white girl of 15 months. She was very close up to the winner, but I just preferred the touch more of finesse in his overall outline. Very typical in head which she carries nobly atop a good neck which was well set into the wither. Very good straight front and lovely feet. She had enough width and depth of front which followed through into body. Very well angulated behind, she put her good quarters to great use on the move which was pleasing from all angles. O (1) 1. Simms’ Seaqualina Echo of Light at Arcticskies JW. Smart and showy grey and wite dog who although only 19 months held great appeal for me being so clean and symmetrical. Very well balanced I found him neither coarse nor too light with everything all of a piece. He was correctly angulated fore and aft and his coupling was well supported by a level and firm topline complemented with pleasing underline. I liked his head which was well shaped, masculine and in proportion to overall outline. His neck was arched and carried proudly and drew my eye. He certainly did not disaapoint on the move with athletic purposeful and easy action which was light of foot but of evident reach and drive. I was very pleased to award him Best of Breed.

Ric Beall (Eppwood)
