South Wales Scottish Terrier Club

SOUTH WALES SCOTTISH TERRIER CLUB-Open show 1st June 2025

What a happy friendly show this was. Just as a breed Club show should be. Thank you to Secretary, Vicki Norton and the rest of her committee for making me so welcome. Thank you also to my two stewards, Gentle Lowe and Jacqui Jones for keeping everything moving and for the good humour throughout.

It was lovely to spend a day with the Scotties and there were enough dogs to make the competition interesting. Many exhibitors had entered more than one class so it felt a bit like the old days.

Special Triers dog or bitch - 9 entries, 3 absent

1st Tilley’s Fredrick Oriono Kera (Imp Ltu) -14 month old boy who took my eye when he came into the class. Presented a clean outline, was well turned out, was a good size and well boned for his age. Was occasionally a bit reluctant but certainly looked the part.

2nd Trumper’s Glenaffric Must Be Magic -this young lady was better for handling. Needed a bit of a tidy but she scored heavily for proportions as she was short backed with a straight topline. Decent temperament.

Junior dog-4 entries, 1 absent

1st Miller & Hoare’s Glenaffric Hidden Magic-this young man really took my eye. Lovely and short, super outline standing and moving, not the biggest but had good bone. Really moved well in all directions. Kept taking my eye and finished up best male and ultimately BIS. Promising.

2nd Fredrick Oriono Kerai (Imp Ltu)

Yearling dog -5 entries, 2 absent

1st Glenaffric Hidden Magic

2nd Norton’s Divadell Mighty Quinn -decent sort, compact, ok in outline, was a touch straight behind.

Novice dog-2 entries, 1 absent

1st Chapman’s Sir Hamish of Virginiascot-this boy had a good showy temperament and was quite assertive but was a bit fine for a male.

Graduate Dog-

1st Glenaffric Hidden Magic

2nd Burgess-Gould’s Skircoat McGregor -typy Wheaten, in super hard condition, had all the bone and substance but not an ounce of fat. Decided not to cooperate on the move which pegged him against the showy youngster in this class.

Limit dog-2 entries

1st Harrison-Brown’s Divadell Who’s The Man-Fully mature and quite a feisty Scotsman. Moved well both ways, good topline

2nd Sir Hamish of Virginiascot

Open dog -4 entries, 1 absent

1st Norton’s Divadell Charging Bear-I really liked the outline of this boy, another in super hard condition, was a bit sluggish so the nod went to the youngster for best male but he was close up-Res best male

2nd Fredrick Oriono Kerai (imp Ltu)

Veteran dog-3 entries, 2 absent

1st Burgess-Gould’s Kingsview Just Connor at Jusouth -lovely condition on this boy. Well turned out and moved ok but was a bit reluctant.

Junior bitch-2 entries, 1 absent

1st Trumper’s Glenaffric Must Be Magic

Yearling bitch-3 entries, 1 absent

1st Wilson and Dixon’s Chatterdale Clear Star-caught my eye pretty quickly, lovely outline, good proportions, super topline, well presented, good head for both length and breadth, moved well which earned her best bitch and Res BIS.

2nd Glenaffric Must Be Magic

Novice bitch-5 entries

1st Glenaffric Must Be Magic

2nd Wilson’s Charlilymae Funshine Jovi of Bonyness-this girl has substance but possibly a bit too much of it. Well turned out. Could use a little more animation.

Graduate bitch-5 entries, 3 absent

1st Norton’s Divadell Harleyquinn-decent sort, good outline, in good condition and well presented, moved ok up and back, a touch proud of her tail. Well deserved Res BB.

2nd Chapman’s Midsmith’s Ailsa of Fraoch Garradh (Imp USA)- delightful temperament, moved well in front, topline dipping a little.

Limit bitch-3 entries

1st Spry’s Celmareva Extravaganza-tidy bitch, good outline, was a bit restricted in movement which pegged her for higher honours.

2nd Midsmith’s Ailsa of Fraoch Garradh (imp USA)

Open bitch-7 entries, 3 absent

1st Glenaffric Must Be Magic

2nd Spry’s Saredon Shante You Stay at Celmareva -good size, decent front, good head proportions, topline not her fortune.

Veteran bitch-3 entries, 2 absent

1st Hill’s Skircoat Sicilienne of Tahgmor -super head, great temperament, a bit too much of her for me and carrying a bit of weight.

Special open pet trim-3 entries, 2 absent

1st Midsmith’s Ailsa of Fraoch Garradh (Imp USA)
