Breed: Handling Classes & SBT

I would like to thank the committee for the invite to judge at this show, my steward Ray McDonald for keeping the ring in order, and to the exhibitors for their entries and accepting my decisions.

JHA

What a lovely class of talented handlers, and could easily change places. Remember to congratulate each other at the end of your class, you are all winners.

6-11 years.

1st Lillie-Jaye Gardner- Housden - Handled a Labrador.

Lillie had a good relationship with her dog, talking to him and moving at the correct pace. She showed the bite clearly, and paid special attention making sure the dog was standing correctly throughout the class. When moving away from the judge, remember to move off in the direction the judge is facing and in a straight line. Lillie won the class on presenting a cleaner overall performance.

2nd Jack Davies - Handled a Tibetan Terrier.

A very smart young handler, who entered the ring with such confidence. He demonstrated his shadowing and I was pleased when he asked for clarification before doing his pattern work. He showed the bite, although this could have been clearer, by keeping the hair out of the way. I would also like to see Jack soften his handling so that he blends into the background.

3rd Isabelle Dumbarton - Handled a Siberian Husky

This young handler who was very gentle with her young dog, and moved at the correct pace.

I was impressed how she kept talking and encouraging her dog to stand still. Remember to keep the dog between you and the judge with every turn. Good luck in the future.

12-16 years

1st Leila Grace - Handled a Boston Terrier.

Stood alone but everything was beautifully executed, her pattern work had clean lines with tidy corners and her table work was accurate with positioning of the feet on the table and in a timely manner. A joy to watch.

17 years and over

1st Shannon Roberts - Handled a Xoloitzcuintle

A professional handler, who has a good relationship with her sensitive dog. Shannon moved at a good pace and made good use of the ring, creating adequate distancing between herself and the other exhibitor. She demonstrated how to show the dogs teeth clearly allowing me a good view of the dentition. Shannon was smartly dressed to complement her dog.

2nd Layna Gille- Wyatt - Handled a Beagle

Layna demonstrated good handling skills, with moving her dog at the correct pace. Table work was accurate and repositioned the hind foot when I moved it. To improve the picture when stacking, collect the lead into your hand, rather than letting it hang down the table, this will give you more control over the head when showing the teeth.

3rd Shannon Griffin - Handled a Japanese Spitz

Shannon worked hard with her dog, although I felt it was more about showing her handling rather than showing her dog to its advantage. Although this was a handling class, remember it is about presenting the dog to the Judge, as a handler you should disappear into the background.

Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Puppy (4,1a)

1st Gold’s Wellsstaffs Take A Bow At Darramlor

Black young bitch with white markings. She has a broad skull, distinct stop and a well filled muzzle, all of good proportions. Her shoulders are muscular and well laid and she has enough depth to her rib, a good bend of stifle, and correct tail set.. Moved well for one so young. Coat in excellent condition. BP. Pleased to see her go PG1.

2nd Griggs’s Vidarstaff Red Empress

Although she was a little uncooperative for her owner, I could see enough. She has a straight front with good bone, dark medium round eye with an alert expression, although her head just needs time to develop. She has correct body length with a well sprung rib and a pleasing top line. Once the owner had her attention she moved well.

Special Yearling (0 , 0a)

Post Graduate (6, 2a)

1st Payne’s Leebee’s Princess Charlotte

Standard size, and won this class on movement and overall balance. This bitch has a muscular front with enough width and depth of rib. Her head is broad, short and deep, with full cheeks and a friendly expression. She has a muscular neck which runs into well laid shoulders and a pleasing topline which she keeps on the move. Hindquarters muscular with hocks well let down. Moved freely. RBOB.

2nd Terry’s Kannechor Guess He’s Back At Gnosall

A well-muscled black brindle dog, well put together. Good eye, set well, neat ears of correct shape, muzzle is strong and deep throughout with a broad skull and full cheeks. Shoulders are well muscled and forelegs straight. He has a good bend of stifle and hocks are well let down. A little powerhouse on the move.

Open ( 4, 0a)

1st Jefferson’s Alport Bold Ruler

What an upstanding masculine dog, who moves true both ways. He has the correct width of front with a sufficient depth of brisket, and super fit body which is well defined. His hindquarters are strong and muscular, and his topline is level which he keeps on the move. His neck is short and set well into shoulders. Typical head which is broad with a short muzzle, and a dark medium eye, which looks straight ahead. Presented in immaculate condition, with a gleaming coat. BOB

2nd Tomkins’s Pasgal Reach Out And Touch

Another quality dog, but a finer type than winner, he also has a dark medium eye, deep skull and a distinct stop and gives a fearless expression. His has enough bone, ribs are well sprung, short in loin, with a good bend of stifle with parallel hocks. Moves well. Just preferred the topline on the move of the winner.
