Eston & Barnaby Canine Society Premier Open Show 21.12.25
Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge your winter open show, and for your hospitality. It felt like a good time was had by all in festive spirits! It would be remiss of me to not thank my steward Tommy, who done a sterling job. And a final offer of my gratitude to the exhibitors, who not only allowed me the honour of judging their dogs, but also the outstanding entry. A couple of things to mention, I found some exhibits with less than perfect dentition and condition lacked in some exhibits too, but it is the one thing that can change to improve the overall look of the dog.
Staffordshire Bull Terriers
Puppy – (6, 1 Abs)
1. Walsh & Lloyd’s - CROWSTAFF SIEZE THE DAY FOR WEORC
Black brindle and white bitch, who was full of beans today. She did not take her eyes off me and moved well with confidence. I liked her balance and her expression; she had a stamp on her that was hard to ignore. Her head strong but feminine, showing expressive dark round eyes, and a neat ear carriage. She has good bone, on neat enough feet, her body showed a good spring of rib, level top line, a light loin and a well angulated rear, with a good bend of stifle. If I was being picky, I would like a thinner lip, but she’s stunning and I think time will be her virtue, the best is yet to come! But today, I loved her! Happily, awarded her BPIB. Was delighted to see her go Terrier Puppy Group 2, well done & best of luck with her!
2. Bell, O’Brein & Shepherd’s - TIADES GREAT MISS TOR
Black Brindle feminine bitch, at 10 months old she is shaping up into a smart package. Her head feminine and not overdone, dark round eyes, and a good length of muzzle which showed a good underjaw. Compact body, showing enough bone for size, and enough rib, a level top line, and a well angulated rear. Moved out well enough, I would just encourage the handler to give her the space to let her show herself off as she’s a very pretty sassy package. Lost out as I just preferred the overall balance and outline of 1. As above, I think maturity will be virtuous for her.
3. Cook’s - STAFFRANOS ESQUIRE
Junior - (4 ,0 Abs)
1. Miller’s - Skyland Tilikum
Black brindle lad, with a lovely head shape and expression. He had a classy look about him. Looking at his head, none of it was too exaggerated but still very masculine, deep through with a distinct stop. Eyes dark and round, good width to muzzle and enough underjaw. Size wise he fits the standard. Correct width to his front and enough bone for his size and his feet neat showing no weakness at the pasterns. In the body, he has good depth of brisket enough rib for size, loin light, and his topline level. On the move he was a tad unsettled due to the smells, but I saw what I needed. He is very balanced, and his fitness could not be matched by his classmates today, a credit to his owners every muscle was firm to touch. His virtues won him this class.
2. Walsh & Lloyd’s - GEORDIESTOON DEFIANT BOY
Stunning brindle and white lad, with the correct strength for size. Reminds of dogs I saw in books growing up. Stronger dog all over than 1, but lost out to 1, as he had the more virtues on the day. Head strong, with distinct stop, dark round eyes, good length of muzzle and good underjaw. Neat feat on well boned legs, excellent width to front, and depth of brisket, level topline, good rib and is very well muscled. He moved equally unsettled to one, again due to the smells one would imagine. He has a good level of fitness, which enhanced him. He just lost out to one on the virtue tick box, but a stunning lad none the less!
3. Cook’s - ECLIPSEBULLS NIGHT QUEEN
Post Graduate – (12, 3 Abs)
1. Winrow & Greaves’ - JAYNEZE RAMONA
Pretty black brindle bitch, with the cleanest of heads, which housed dark eyes, good stop and neat ears. Her balanced body shows good proportions all round for size. Her legs showed good bone and her feet nice and neat, showing no weakness at pasterns. Her body showed good depth of brisket, a level topline with enough rib and a light loin. Her stifles well bent, and rear well angulated. Hands down, the fittest exhibit I had my hands on today. Credit to whoever maintains this. It is something to aspire to. She was a very playful character on the move, but it is not a behaviour contest. Her handler put in the hard work to allow me to see what I needed to see. She won the class by just having that bit more bone.
2. Miller’s - SKYLAND RYOKO
Black brindle and white bitch, who I noted had the neatest feet and killer expression. I judged this girl when she was 6 months, and today at just shy of 2 years old, I had no idea this was the same bitch until I saw my catalogue. Time has done her the world of good. Her head clean with good underjaw, her eyes dark, ears neat. Her body was smart, showing a level topline, and good depth of brisket and a well-defined loin giving her a nice outline. Her rear showing good angulations. She was fit as a fiddle, showing every muscle on her body. It safe to say, playful characters were in abundance in this class. This black brindle bitch was buzzing at the seams to let her excitement for life out. Pushed one hard but lost out due to slightly less bone than 1.
3. Walbey’s - TYNEVIEW RIZZIUS LUSSO
Limit – (7, 2 Abs)
1. Marsden’s- AUCHDARAN MY MEGGY SUE
This girl did not stand out to me in the class when I first looked, but hands on she secured her place. She is one not to miss and the thing I loved most about her was her balance. Black brindle with white chest and toes. Clean head, with a wise yet pretty expression, dark eyes, good stop and good underjaw. Her front showed lovely depth of brisket and good strength for size. Her feet on well boned legs, and neat as you’d like. Her topline level, enough rib and a well angulated rear, showing a good bend of stifle. She was in good condition. She moved parallel and flowing, which nailed her the class. I was very glad I found her!
2. Preston’s - KAHAMAIA CIRCLE OF FIRE
Pretty black brindle girl, with a head of lovely proportions, neat ears, round dark eyes, and well pronounced cheeks. Her expression helped her in this class. Slightly stronger all over than one yet still feminine but again had that ever so vital balance. She has good bone for her size and well boned legs, with neat enough feet. Her body showed a good spring of rib, a level topline, which led down to a well-constructed rear. She moved well, showing drive from her rear. Having her in a fitter condition would really improve the overall appearance, which cost her in this class today.
3. Bennett’s - SIKAISTAFF THUG ROSE FOR ELMISSICO JW
Open – (7, 1 Abs)
1. Marsden’s - JAYNEZE DOCTOR JIMMY AT MODLIFE
Black brindle with good strength for size, and hands on provides a lot more than meets the eye. On the higher end of the standard, his outline and strength for size is very balanced which adds to his overall appearance. He demands your attention with a very handsome expression on a head of correct proportions, with neat ears, dark eyes, correct stop for his head shape, and well-muscled cheeks. His body is well boned for his size, his feet neat with pasterns showing no weakness. He ticks the boxes hands on with correct width to his front, and a good depth of brisket. He held his topline level stood and on the move. His rear shows enough bend of stifle and good angulations. He moved out well, if a bit playful. He is fit as a fiddle, and in fabulous condition. 2nd could not match him on condition, which secured him the class and subsequently best of breed. Wonderful to see him go terrier group 4. Well done!
2. Waltham’s - DRINGSHAW DANSE DE FEU
The prettiest red & white bitch, with flashy markings. She is again at the higher end of the standard, but oozes balance in her well put together package. Her head is strong but of correct proportions, and so feminine. Excellent expression and the darkest of eyes, she is clean lipped with good underjaw and notably the biggest teeth of the day. Her body is smart, with good width to chest, forechest and good bone for size. Neat tight feet showing no weakness at the pasterns. Her body showing enough rib, and a well angulated rear. Moved a tad unsettled at first but once moving, it seemed with economy of effort with drive and reach. Lost out to best of breed on condition alone. It was a very close call, so I had no hesitation in awarding her reserve best of breed.
3. Nicholson’s - CAFALL PIN UP GIRL
