Miss Megan Anderson

Hound group excluding Dachshunds Avs and groups.

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge a majority of the hounds at their premier open show. The day was extremely enjoyable with many lovely dogs to go over, all up to top standard! Something I would like to note, whippets seem to be all shapes and sizes now which is quite concerning. The standard calls for dogs to be between 47-51cms and bitches to be 44-47cms, some of them were oversized. I also found a few with humped loins instead of an arch and some heavy shoulders, I hope breeders out there are working to correct this. Apart from these notes all my other breed were very much up to breed standard including most of the whippets and I had to make some very difficult decisions.

Rhodesian Ridgeback Junior (2:0)

1, Jolly’s PRIORPARK WILLIAM WALLACE FOR CLANBRUACHAN

A young boy going through his over excited phase, lovely profile, masculine head of good shape and size, good expression, correct length of neck into well laid shoulders, straight front, ample bone, good depth of chest, ribs extended back, level topline, symmetrical ridge, broad back end with good angulation, a touch more maturity will do him good, moved with drive.

4, McGowan’s CYANGRANGE MOON SONG

Whippet Post Graduate (7:1)

1, Finch’s ZENOBIA LOVE ACTUALLY JW

I’ve judged this bitch before and at the time she won BPIB, my opinion of her hasn’t changed, she is elegant and feminine, beautiful head and expression, good length of neck leading into well laid shoulders and a straight front, superb depth of chest, correct length of rib, defined tuck up, lovely bend of stile with well let down hocks to drive her on the move, in beautiful coat and condition, pushed hard for BOB.

2, Beattie-Nash’s RAILFIELD RAINSTORM

Please see critique in whippet junior.

3, Brooks’ COLLOONEY FOR YOUR EYES ONLY JW

4, Smith’s KUPLETO JAZZALICIOUS AT LORBRI (IMP LTU)

Whippet Open (8:0)

A very strong class of dogs I have and haven't judged, some hard decisions had to made here!

1, Finch’s STARCEYLON QUEEN OF DORNE AND ZENOBIA JW

This girl caught my eye when she came into the class, the most feminine head, dark pigment, correct ear set and size, sweetest expression, good length of neck, well laid shoulders leading to a straight front, good bone, lovely depth of chest, well extended ribs, well defined tuck up, lovely topline with good arch over loin, excellent bend of stifle, shown in outstanding coat and muscle, one of my top movers, I will follow her closely.

2, Hunter’s CH COLLOONEY WAS MEANT TO BE AT SULAHMARA

Another I have judged before and have watched from the ringside, he is a lovely example of the breed with so many good attributes, a worthy champion in his own right and nothing I right will do that justice, masculine all through without overdoing it and another day I could see him swapping with my winner, he just didn't enjoy the floor today.

3, Webb’s CROSSCOP SHADOW DANCING

4, Smith’s COLLOONEY YOU ARE THE REASON

Irish Wolfhound Open (3:1)

1, Tinker’s MALINKEY’S ACACIA

Ultra feminine girl, lovely head held proudly, good proportions and furnishings, dark pigment, sweetest expression, correct ear set, nice length of neck leading into well set shoulders, straight front, ample bone, lovely depth of chest, well extended ribcage, level topline which was held well, great bend of stifle, well muscled, although she was smaller everything was well balanced and she gave an impression of great power, moved okay. BOB

2, Allison’s STONESTORM ARGYLL

A raw youngster, lovely head that still had a long way to come, strong pigment, lovely expression, good ear set, correct length of neck, well laid shoulder, straight front with good bone all through, good depth of chest however he still has a lot of filling out to do, angulated well in rear, strong all through and a little stubborn, movement was a touch loose which is to be expected.

Greyhound Open (1:0)

1, Spacey’s INCHYDONEY MEMORIES TALISMAN AT HALLIMANS (IMP FRA)

This young boy really caught my eye, beautiful masculine head of good shape, dark eye, lovely expression, strong muzzle, correct ear set and size, good length of neck, well laid back shoulders leading to a perfect straight front, lovely depth of chest with ribs extending well back, good tuck up, excellent topline with slight rise over loin, beautiful bend of stifle, well let down hocks which allowed for his powerful and easy movement, show in a super jacket and well defined muscle, it was a shame he wasn't able to stay for the group however I will keep up with his results in the future. BOB

Pharaoh Hound Open (0:0)

Deerhound Post Graduate (4:3)

1, McAlpine’s HUMBIEHOUNDS SGONA TATTIE

She stood out for all the right reasons today, a typical stubborn pup who was not making her handlers job easy, a beautiful head of correct proportions, dark eye with cheeky expression, good ear set, if I’m being overly picky they could be smaller, correct length of neck leading to well laid shoulders, straight front, good chest which still needs to drop, strong back with a good rise over the loin, good breadth to hips and well bent in stifle, she was well muscled for her age and sporting a lovely harsh jacket, her movement was beautiful with a powerful reach and drive, she will be something quite special and I will follow her closely, delighted to see her take PG3. BOB, BPIB, PG3

Deerhound Open (3:2)

1, Clabby’s HUMBIEHOUNDS JAZZ IT UP

Another lovely bitch of graceful stature, feminine but strong head of good proportions, dark eye, good ear set but again a touch too big, good length of neck, well laid shoulder leading to a straight front, could have a better return of upper arm, good amount of bone, lovely depth of rib, a good rise over loin, broad hips and a good bend of stifle, she was in excellent coat and muscle, another good mover however due to the lack of upper arm she couldn’t reach the same stride as the other class winner, besides this she is a worthy winner and very breed typical.

Basset Hound Open (3:1)

1, Johnston’s BLEVWIL RON LIKE THE WIND (IKC)

A young basset I’ve admired from a baby, lovely head piece with very little exaggeration and strong pigment, good expression, correct ear set and length, long neck leading into well laid shoulders, excellent front with ample bone and strong fore chest, lovely depth of chest, good length of rib, again there was nothing overly exaggerated and good space between the chest and floor, level topline, lovely rear angulation, shown in lovely coat and condition, moved with power, one I will continue to watch closely. BOB.

2, Bowers’ SASILASY EDGE OF CHAOS AT LYONGLEN

Another nice looking basset sporting similar attributes to my winner, a touch more exaggerated in the head and front, not too exaggerated in the chest area, in good coat and condition, moved ok.

Saluki Open (4:1)

1, Phillips’ CH LUACHMHAR JAMILAH SHCEX

She had an extremely pleasing profile, full of symmetry in her head with a feminine expression, correct ear placement and size, long neck that held her head proudly, good lay of shoulder, straight front, lovely depth of chest and a good length of rib, level topline, brilliant turn of stifle and well let down hocks, she was shown in superb coat and condition, her movement was so elegant and flowing, a very worthy champion and very worthy of her group placing, I will watch her with interest. BOB G2

2, Phillips’ LUACHMHAR JALA

Another with a pleasing profile, feminine head of good proportions, dark pigment, correct ears, good length of neck, well laid shoulders and straight front, good depth of chest and length of rib, level topline, good tuck up, well bent stifle, lovely coat, shown in good muscle, moved well.

3, Simpson’s ZXYLASAHLAAM GEA’RR VW

Borzoi Open (2:0)

1, Dollan’s SCOTACH HIGH AND MIGHTY

My first thought when I seen this dog in profile was ‘wow’ and I feel expanding on that will do minimum justice, the most beautiful head full of breed type, dark eye with lovely expression, he hits the breed standard extremely well, good depth of chest, good length of rib, good topline with rise, shown in outstanding coat and condition, lovely angulation and well let down hocks, one I could watch on the move all day, so breed typical, a pleasure to watch in the group and very worthy of his group win! BOB, G1

2, Dollan’s SCOTACH NEED FOR SPEED

Litter sibling of 1 and of a likeness, I would be repeating myself if I wrote much more, feminine all through with beautiful attributes, preferred the movement of her brother on the day however I could see then swapping places another time.

Afghan Hound Open (3:2)

1, French’s SITANA MOON KNIGHT AT ZALMEERAH JW

Quite square in profile but well balanced to match, lovely head of good shape, dark eye, gentle expression, strong muzzle, correct ear set and size, good length of neck leading into well laid shoulders, straight front, good bone, good depth of chest and length of rib, level topline, well angulated in rear, okay coat, well conditioned, moved well. BOB

Cirneco Dell’Etna Open (6:6)

Basenji Open (3:1)

1, Legget’s CH SWANITE TAKE A CHANCE ON ME SHCEX

Another worthy champion, lovely typical head, well chiselled, correct proportions, dark eye with strong expression, ears set on well and stayed erect, good length of neck leading to well laid shoulders and straight front, fine boned, good length of ribcage, well sprung, lovely depth, good rear end which was strong, well let down hocks, sporting a beautiful jacket, in expert condition, another I could watch all day on the move. BOB

2, Rix’s WOODELLA BITS AND PIECES AT GOOSES

Masculine head with good proportions, dark eye, keen expression, correct ear set although I touch longer than 1, good length of neck, well set shoulders, a touch wide in front, good depth of chest and length of ribcage, strong loin, well angulated in rear, moved well.

Basset Griffon Vendeen (Grand) Open (3:0)

1, McGregor’s CH IR CH CLAELA INFINITY AND BEYOND

I think everything I could say about this boy would be summed up with wow, he fits his breed standard so well, masculine domed head, everything in good proportion, correct ear length, strong neck into well set shoulders, straight front with good bone and a prominent sternum, good length of rib, correct depth of chest, nice length to height ratio, level topline, lovely turn of stifle, well muscled, harsh coat, one of the strongest movers of the day. BOB

2, McGregor’s CLAELA LETS DRINK A TOAST

The son of 1 and arguably even better, he had everything you'd want in a grand and nothing I can write would expand on that, he wasn’t making his handlers job easy on the day however and didn’t keep steady on the move which affected his overall performance, I will keep a very close eye on this boy.

3, Brown’s IR CH CLAELA SWEET DREAMS IRJCH

Basset Griffon Vendeen (Petit) Open (1:0)

1, Brown’s IR CH ERYLAN CHAUD COMME HADES AN CH 23

An old fashion type, masculine head of good proportions, dark eye, good expression, correct ear set and length, okay length of neck, shoulders well set, straight front with prominent fore chest, lovely depth of chest with well extended ribs, level topline, good bend of stifle with well let down hocks, he was sporting a good harsh jacket, well conditioned, moved well, a bit of weight off would really finish the overall picture. BOB.
