North Staffs Canine Society

Breed: Rhodesian Ridgeback

First of all I would like to apologise for the delay in sending this critique to the Kennel Club.  I did submit it to our Our Dogs a while back.  I'm not the greatest at technology and I thought I had submitted this critique to the KC.  Again huge apologies to the North Staffs Canine Society and the exhibitors who showed under me.

I would like to thank the Committee of North Staffs Canine Society for inviting me to judge Rhodesian Ridgebacks at their recent Open Show.  I would also like to thank my steward for her assistance and to the exhibitors who entered and trusted me to go over their dogs.  I was looking for a Ridgeback clean in outline with balance, length and good movement essential for a hunting dog, who fits the standard and who could do the job the breed was originally bred for and all the dogs fitted that description.  Ridges, crowns and temperaments were all excellent.

RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK PUPPY

1st Henshall's Leeurif Sekiamba Hakahaarli at Suhuba (Imp GRC)

A 10 month old red wheaten bitch, pretty feminine head of correct proportions with good ear set and gorgeous dark eyes.  Long elegant clean neck leading on to a good front assembly, good lay of shoulder, depth of brisket, excellent length of ribbing and loin and excellent topline.  Nice croup and tail set.  Good rear angulation, well let down hocks, lovely tight feet.  Moved well.  A very bright future indeed.  BPIB

RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK JUNIOR AND POST GRADUATE

1st Mills & Parsons Priorpark Pride and Joy to Nzuri

A stunning 14 month old bitch who caught my eye as soon as she entered the ring and she did not put a foot wrong.  A very well structured girl with a beautiful soft feminine face, good eye shape and correct ear set.  Lovely long neck, good shoulder placement, good bone, excellent topline leading on to excellent rear angulation.  Correct tail set and nice tight feet.  Movement fabulous.  Another girl with a very bright future ahead.  Delighted to award her BOB

RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK OPEN

1st Cyprien, Porter & Willunat's Honeybush Clouds Novel Princess Zola with Jocerik JW (Imp Deu)

A gorgeous red wheaten bitch at 2 years of age - good feminine head, bright alert eyes, clean neck leading in to lovely forequarters.  Excellent shoulder placement, good level topline, correct croup, good strong hindquarters, correct tailset, good feet.  Moved smoothly and freely around the ring.  This girl ticks all the right boxes.  RBOB

2nd Barnes Ch Diamondridge Kazembe Golden Age JW

A strong boned quality mid wheaten girl 2 and a half years old.  Attractive and impressive with a strong head, flat skull, lovely dark eye and correct ear set.  Strong shoulders and great topline.  Excellent rear quarters, fantastic 1st and 2nd thigh.  Good feet.  Correct tailset.  She didn't move quite as well as No. 1 as in my opinion the ring was a tad small to show a Ridgeback to its best potential.  However on another day in a larger ring 1 and 2 could change places.
