KILMARNOCK & DISTRICT CANINE CLUB 19TH JULY 2025

My thanks to the Committee for inviting me to judge the Gundogs at this show. I was delighted with the quality of the dogs presented on the day, and I would like to thank the exhibitors for the lovely atmosphere around the ring. 

Retriever (Flatcoat) Open (3 entries)

1st Stevenson’s SH CH/IR SH CH Plainfire’s The Captain Of My Heart is Steelriver (IMP CHE) the dog just oozed quality, beautiful moulded head and lovely dark brown eye, with the kindest of expression, good neck into well laid back shoulders excellent bone and feet, everything flowed with this dog from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail, good brisket with excellent spring of rib, strong powerful hindquarters which enabled him to drive off his hocks, showing power without lumber, I could not pass him for the group. Lovely entry of Cockers, I was thrilled with the quality, thank you.

1st McLean’s Lynwater Moon Walk 13-month-old Blue Roan dog, charming head, with excellent eye and expression, short, square, compact and Cockery, with good bone legs and feet. Good layback of shoulder and lovely turn of stifle. I liked his enthusiasm on the move, merry tail action and covered the ring well. Won a strong lineup for BOB on his tail action and exuberance. 1st Torbett’s Kirlinjis Handmade (JW) 4-year-old Blue Roan bitch, well presented and in excellent condition. Feminine expression, square muzzle, skull well developed, moderate neck into good shoulder placement. Ribs well sprung, level topline and correct tail set. Solid quarters with a good bend of stifle. Moved well, holding her topline.

1st Faribairn & Madigan’s Misperros Incandescent At Carmelfair (JW)- lovely quality Blue Roan, feminine bitch with a balanced outline, skull well-developed, cleanly chiselled, with a gentle expression, low-set ears, good neck, moderate angulation, lovely body and substance, moved with reach and drive.

1st Garvey’s Richtig Rahue JW - well-balanced dog, clean-cut head, nice eye, powerful jaws, clean muscular build, slightly arched neck, elbows well laid back, good depth of rib, firm short back, strong bone with beautiful compact feet, moved well with good reach and drive. Really liked this dog.

1st McMurdo & Tierney’s Ceilloch Express - a well-made GSP dog, shown in a lovely coat and condition, top size, well-balanced with a lovely overall outline, straight forelegs with plenty of strength, super feet, good width to his thighs, and pushed off from short, strong hocks. Moved steadily with correct footfall, showing reach and drive.

1st Cairn’s Lamarg Silver Showtoff - Lovely feminine head and expression with correct set of ear, which had a nice fold. Moderately long neck, shoulders well laid, level topline, ribs extending well back, well let down hocks used to advantage, ground covering movement with correct tail carriage.

1st Maclaine’s Greyspirit Purdue JW SHCM SHCEX VW CJW17 CW22 CVW24 (BOB)- strong class with lots to like about each.  Lovely bitch of nine years who is full of classic type, feminine, balanced head with good muzzle, has that aristocratic look, skin tightly drawn, long lobular ears, well laid shoulder and correct length of upper arm, accurate and balanced on the move, went around the ring effortlessly. 1st Collin’s Raigmore Hermia of Vabisbrae - B/W bitch, pretty feminine head showing slight dish, symmetrically built with just enough substance, fine thin leathers, slight arch to her neck, Good length and slope to pasterns, oval feet and arched toes, her movement won her this class, unexaggerated covering the ring with an easy stride and lashing tail. Still lots to come from the bitch as she is not quite a year old.

1st McGrachie Malbecnogs Lady Of The Lake at Klanhallion (BOB) 17-month-old, feminine bitch with balanced head of good proportions, strong muzzle, pronounced stop, good ear set, neck is strong with a slight arch, deep chest, well-sprung ribs, moved soundly but paced a little.

Gordon Setter Post Graduate (1 entry)

1st Hogg’s Gailiech Wirnpa - Good-looking youngster, well constructed. Lovely head with good depth of muzzle. Clean through the neck and shoulders, with a lovely forechest and plenty of rib. Still to fully mature, but has lots of time. Oval feet with well-arched toes, strong and well-bent stifles, and a smooth action around the ring. 

Gordon Setter Open (1 entry)

1st Hogg’s Gailiech Ngalyod (BOB) -Good-sized dog, everything in proportion. A balanced masculine head, correct eye, well-constructed with a good spring of rib, loin wide, slightly arched, maintaining a firm topline when moving, moderate length of coat, beautiful feet, BOB.

English Setter Open (4 entries)

1st Yule’s Rowanmyle One Bewitched (BOB) such a lovely bitch to handle, beautiful disposition, feminine head, good reach of neck, well laid-back shoulders and correct upper arm, elbows close to body, good depth of chest and spring of rib, lovely strong rear angulation, feet tight and well arched toes, moved well with beautiful head and tail carriage. 

Irish Setter Post Graduate (3 entries)

1st Richardson’s Bardonhill McIntosh Red at Montgreenan JW Handsome refined head on this youngster, he has good length and depth to his muzzle, neck is moderate in length and slightly arched, ribs well sprung and carried well back, good depth of chest, carried himself well on the move. 

2nd Walker’s Gwendariff Hanky Panky JW lovely youngster, very close decision between one and two.

Irish Setter Open (3 entries)

1st Walker’s Gwendariff Ucant Touch This JW (BOB) - A very stylish dog, elegant and racy, with a balanced outline, lovely long and lean head, correct eye shape and expression. Excellent in neck, topline and tailset, showing no exaggeration in outline, covered the ring well.

1st Stevenson’s Peasblossom Brogan At Gadolachcara (Spaniel English Springer) (BOB) L/W dog, shown in immaculate condition, beautifully presented, attractive head of good proportions and pleasing expression, good neckline and well placed shoulder, is well developed in body with correctly sprung ribs and firm muscular loin, carries himself well and moves with ease.

1st Cumming’s Molokain Enchanted One (Retriever Curly Coated) - quality bitch, lovely overall balance with correct outline, well-proportioned wedge-shaped head with slight stop and clean cheeks. Slightly arched neck, well-laid shoulder, Deep chest with well-sprung rib. Short loin with a slight tuck-up, coat of the correct texture, moved soundly, perhaps a little close behind.

1st McCormack’s Flyngalee Dill Dally (Golden Retriever) - an impressive puppy, balanced, feminine head and expression, has good length to her neck, well laid shoulders, excellent return of upper arm, forelegs well under her body, good spring of rib and strong loin, good feathering to her coat, carries herself so well around the ring.

Move soundly around the ring.
