Show – Aberystwyth & District CS – Open Show

Date – 5th Oct 2025

Judge – Lynda Nicholas (Nickarlyn)

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge at this friendly show and to my stewards in both rings. Thanks to exhibitors each entry was appreciated. Quite a mix of breed types and some lacking muscle tone. Pleased that some of my winners secured high placings in their respective groups.

Shetland Sheepdogs

All exhibits had correct dentition

P (1,0)

1 Hime – Shadowess Sweet as Honey BP & PGRP2

Sable girl 11 mths. Appealed for overall balance, size and shape. Sweet expression with good head planes, blunt wedge and enough fill to muzzle. Dark eye though a little full. Well placed/tipped ears. Correct body proportions with strong bone ending in correct pasterns and oval feet. Well set long tail carried low. Moved as her angles suggested, with drive.

G (6,4)

1 Hime – Shougies Starmaid BOB (shortlisted in group)

Blue almost 5 yrs. Good size and shape presenting an elegant silhouette.

Decent fill of muzzle, good head planes - blunt wedge from all angles with almond/oblique eyes. Good under-jaw. Well placed/tipped ears. Ribcage extends well back, graceful sweep over loin. OK shoulders, enough return of upper-arm and depth to chest. Correct bone and feet. Moderate turn of stifle and short below the hock Covered the ground well though a little wide in front, using well-made rear quarters showing drive. Low tail carriage. Her colour could be clearer.

2 Folkes – Heart of Love Manada De Grande at Dacfolke IMP PO

Black & white 14 months of different type to 1 – heavier throughout. Height made his silhouette appear rather square. OK head with decent fill of muzzle, having a tricky time with one ear today. Ribs reached well back with sweep over loin. Moved soundly but wide behind and prefer less lift to front. High tail carriage rather spoiled profile movement.

1 Hime – Mijmas Moonlight and Roses RBOB

Tri veteran who took this class on elegant make and shape. Spot on for size with good height/length proportions and enough bone. Feminine expression, well placed stop, dark eye that could be further enhanced by a more oblique set. Nicely tipped ears and in the challenge used them to advantage facing her owner. Excellent reach of neck into good front assembly. Balanced angulations front & rear. Stands on good legs and feet. Excellent jet-black coat and condition for age. Moved well

2 Folkes – Navy Blue of Most Majestic at Dacfolke IMP HUG JW

Male just rising 2. Masculine expression that would benefit from a more oblique eye set and more head length for balance. OK stop. Focussed on handler using ears to advantage. Preferred the overall shape of winner. Bone and substance to complement size. Good feet and pasterns. Long tail. Excellent silvery, blue colour with rich tan – splashed and marbled. Moved Ok but not the lithe action of winner.

Pyrenean Mountain Dog

O (1,0)

1 Bamford & Church – Pafaxen A Million Dreams JW BOB & GRP1

This 2 yr old is just the right mix of femininity, size and substance – and Wow can she move. Lovely head of excellent proportions, dark almond eye and good pigment. Tight lips with no dewlap. Good neck and front, broad chest reaching just below her neat elbows. Lovely shape producing a level top-line both static and moving. Matching front and rear angulation and well-muscled rear quarters used to best advantage.

Shown in great coat and condition.

Spaniel – Cocker

Sadly some exhibits were not settled and lacked that all important “merry” nature.

P (3,0)

1 Craig – Riondel Amadeus at Alisma BP & PGRP2

Very smart dark blue lad top-end of his puppy career - lovely quality with plenty of substance. Masculine head with correct amount of work in it, tight dark eyes give melting expression. Excelled in bone. Big ribs, short, strong loin, nicely rounded backend, with short hocks. Well set/carried tail. Epitome of square and cobby. Moved with drive and purpose just as angulations suggest. Silky coat and furnishings coming along nicely and complements shape. Maturity, shape and co-ordinated accurate footfall ensured he took this class with ease.

2 Brookes – Bruxly Casanova

6 mth black baby giving it all away in development to 1. Stronger in head but looking promising. Lots of developing needed to drop into his lovely frame. Sporting puppy fluff but well-made underneath. Depth and width to chest OK for age, ribs reaching well back, short loin and balanced angulations. Enough width to rear quarters, would prefer lower tail carriage - though a happy baby. More settled on the move than 3

Various types and ages here

1 Davies – Trinant Celtic Cariad

Took the class on maturity and the most composed on the move. Blue 7 yrs. Good muzzle, dark eye with tight rims. Plenty of substance and correct bone for size. Decent pasterns and feet. Moved OK holding a steady topline with good tail carriage. Coat texture not the easiest to manage.

2 Clark – Floraadora Moonstone Magic

Pretty headed blue girl of 15 mths. Dark tight eye and correct stop. More leg length and shorter loin would improve her overall silhouette. Well-presented silky jacket. Unsettled today, not the reach and drive of winner however showed me more settled movement than 3

L (2,0)

1 Davies – Trinant Mint Humbug

7 yrs – litter brother to previous class winner. Top sized male. Classical B&W head with good eye. Not as compact as I like but good substance. Level topline with nice tail carriage. OK feet and pasterns. Slightly more angulation would improve his reach and drive. Happy in the ring though slightly un-coordinated on the move.

2 Burn - Floraadora Amozonite Dream

3rd in previous class – not confident in her environment. Very different in type and maturity to winner. 15 mths B&W ticked. Feminine head with tight dark eye gave soft expression. Balanced angulations, prefer a shorter loin. Silky coat. I would like to see more substance.

O (4,0)

2 black boys headed this class both immaculately presented.

1 Brookes – Gino Della Sciaranera of Bruxly IMT ITA BOB

4 yr old with style and substance. Balanced head, square muzzle with masculine expression. Strong neck into well placed shoulders with matching upper arm. Depth to brisket, excellent bone and lovely tight feet. Balanced front/rear angles. Well-made hindquarters, moving true in all directions with enthusiasm. Tail carriage rather spoiled profile movement but accurate footfall covering the ground with ease.

2 Harvey – Tomerine Fact or Fable RBOB

Stronger in head than winner. Kind dark eyes with tight rims gave pleasing expression Moderate neck into decent front, excellent ribs, strong loin and short below the hock. A little unsettled today– nice balanced angulations however did not quite make the best of himself on the move
