Schnauzer Club Of Great Britain

Schnauzer Club of Great Britain Open Show 28/9/25

Firstly I would like to thank the committee for extending the invitation to judge their show, and for giving me my first opportunity to judge Best in Show. It was a beautifully run show, and I had a thoroughly enjoyable day.

I would also like to thank my two very able stewards Edita and Elspeth, they kept the ring running smoothly throughout and provided lots of laughs! They both did an excellent job.

Secondly I would like to say a huge thank you to the exhibitors of all three sizes for providing me with such lovely examples of their breeds to go over. There were some truly fabulous dogs present, and temperaments across the board were superb. I have to admit, having baby puppy cuddles under the guise of going over them was one of the best parts of the day!

Giant Schnauzers.

Junior Dog

1st Willetts’ Philoma The Professional.

Having long been an avid fan of his father, I was keen to get my hands on this 14 month old black male. He is strong and masculine, without being coarse in any way. He has a classic wedge head leading to a blunt muzzle. He has the loveliest dark eyes with a real schnauzer expression. His neck has a slight arch, leading into a well laid shoulder, deep rib cage and tight elbows. He has a good forecast, and his ribs are well sprung for his age. He gives an almost square outline, and is balanced with moderate angles front and back. He is well off for bone, has a slightly sloping topline leading to a good tail set and carriage. He really looks the part standing, and despite the ring size not being quite large enough to really showcase his movement, I saw enough to know he can shift when he needs to!

Best Dog, Best of Breed.

Puppy Bitch.

1st Clayton’s Dreamcatcher De Barba Negra at Northdrum.

This 9 month bitch is a half sibling to the father of the BOB winner. She shares many of the same characteristics, just in a more feminine package. She has a broad head and a strong, blunt muzzle. Her almond eyes give an alert expression. She carries herself well, as she is well boned. She is somewhat more angulated at the rear than at the front, but not so much that she looks unbalanced. She is a lovely picture stacked, and while she is loose on the move and her topline is soft at present, this is to be expected at this age and she will be interesting to watch. She needs lots of time. Best Puppy, Reserve Best Bitch.

Open Bitch

1st. Cox and Bowman's Zarina Vom Schloss Erhenberg To Grovelea (Imp Deu)

I was delighted to see this beautiful two year old black and silver bitch in the ring. She is a classic Germanic, workmanlike dog, with a coat to die for. Her head is strong but those dark, almond eyes soften her expression without losing any of that alertness the breed is known for. She has well laid shoulders, a strong top one with a slight slope from shoulder to hindquarters. She has the correct tail set and carries her tail well standing and on the move, and is well balanced with moderate angles both ends. She is very light on her feet, and I only wish she’d had more space to show off that driving movement to the best of her ability. She pushed so hard for BOB, but it was the movement that made the decision in the end. Best Bitch, Reserve Best of Breed.
