Coatbridge, Airdrie & District Canine Club

Open Show – Sunday 2nd February 2025

Working Breeds & Groups + Border Collies, Shetland Sheepdogs & Rough Collies

Judge: Louise Forster (Kachemak)

I’d like to both thank and congratulate the Coatbridge Committee for their excellent organisation and hospitality under what were quite challenging circumstances. Thank you also to my wonderful stewards, Mandy, Pam and Mia for their efficiency, professionalism and support.   I’d like to thank the exhibitors for allowing me to ‘get my hands on’ their dogs, and for taking my decisions graciously. I also appreciate their patience when class clashes necessitated regular breaks to wait for exhibitors who were in the ring at the other show.

Dobermann

O (4/3 Abs)

1st Verrall’s Grafmax Oberon At Camperdown - This 4 year old boy is so balanced from all angles. I have judged him before as a 2 year old and he impressed me then. His head is clean and perfectly in balance with his body. With a strong elegant neck, good depth of chest, ample forechest, a wonderful topline which is rock solid on the move, and it is here that he shines. He and his handler are such a great team, moving in harmony with powerful drive from behind and minimal uplift. Although he stood alone in his class, I was delighted to award him BOB and Working Group 2.

Great Dane

PG (4/2 Abs)

1st Ferguson’s Renescent Too Hot To Handle For Chateaudain LUX JNR CH JW – Blue bitch of good size and substance. Her head is in proportion and sits on a beautiful clean, elegant neck which is held proudly when moving. Good bone, strong pasterns and deep feet with well arched toes. She has a balanced profile with good fore chest, deep brisket and good muscle throughout. On the down and back she is straight and on the go around she covered ground with a powerful easy stride.

2nd Prazak Dickson’s Kaallana Jawska Seraphina – 14 month black bitch with an attractive feminine head. She has a deep chest with a strong back and loin but just losing out on maturity, not having the balance and substance of 1.

O (7/2 Abs)

1st Martin’s Keishant Venus – I recognised this girl as soon as I saw her, having judged her before. Beautifully feminine and elegant, now fully mature at 5 years old. Standing well over herself on straight, strong well boned legs and excellent feet, with a well laid back shoulder and elbows tight under her. Clean lines through her neck, strong topline, well muscled loin and hindquarters. On the move she covered ground effortlessly with a free and tireless stride. BOB & Working Group 1.

2nd Martin’s Keishant Zeus – Litter brother to 1 and very similar qualities. I just prefer the overall proportions and togetherness on the move of his sister.

3rd Martin’s Keishant Athena

Boxer

O (10/7 Abs)

1st Lafferty’s Geenawell Lorenzo ShCEx – Another I have judged before, this cracking 4 year old boy is a powerhouse of solid muscle and so good to go over. Attractive head, not overdone in any way, with lovely dark brown eyes and a wonderful typically ‘Boxer’ expression. He has a strong muscular neck which flows into a rock solid topline with a strong loin and good depth of chest. He is square in profile without the excessively sloping backline that I often see in Boxers. Clean on the move and propelling himself forwards with a driving action from the rear. BOB & Working Group 3

2nd Neilson’s Borestone Take Me To Heart – almost 2 year old dark brindle and white bitch of good balance although not the substance of my 1st place. Good leg/depth of chest ratio with chest reaching to elbows. Feminine head with good proportions and a little more wrinkle.

3rd Lafferty’s Jimbren Legacy Lives On Through Tauralord – At just 7 months this baby is very raw but has lots of promise. BP

Leonberger

O (5/2 Abs)

1st Macdougall’s Prideofelsa Bruichladdich – 6 year old bitch with a dignified mature head. She has ample bone and a nice front assembly. Pleasing height to length proportions with chest to elbows and good forechest. Strong topline and a well muscled loin and rounded rump. She won the class on her freedom of movement which was sound and ground covering. Coming and going she was straight with strong hocks driving her from the rear. BOB

2nd Macdougall’s Leoflaed Just For You Pride Of Elsa (AI) – larger all round, this almost 5 year old bitch scored with her feminine head and has good bone, feet and overall balance in outline. She lost out on movement today, not having the drive and extension of 1.

3rd Mandelson’s Prideofelsa Poinsettia In Honrukai

St Bernard

O (6/4 Abs) – a difficult decision between these two and could easily have gone the other way.

1st Outram’s Noralu Bite The Bullet – substantial 3 year old lad with a large impressive head on a thick, well muscled neck. He has tremendous bone and a broad, strong and level back. His chest is deep and broad reaching just to his elbows, with a good forechest. He moved away with front and rear legs straight and parallel. BOB

2nd Leitch’s Dawstenbears Style Icon – I liked this 2 year old lad’s head and front assembly but I preferred the rear angulation and, therefore, the balance of my 1st place. More athletic looking compact shape, not as heavy boned and with good feet, he moved soundly, maintaining a strong and level back.

Siberian Husky

PG (7/3 Abs)

1st Wynne’s Mydisa Hielan Wee Haiver – lovely feminine white bitch, just coming up to 2 years old and looking in great shape. She has a beautiful head with foxy expression and expressive ears. Balanced proportions throughout, with the correct depth of chest, strong topline, a slightly arched, well-muscled loin and rear angles matching the front. On the move she covered ground with such drive and efficiency, with her top line not giving an inch. I could see her go for miles. BOB & Working Group 4

2nd Mcarthur, Rees & McKenzie’s Amical Naxxar – I really liked the head and expression on this eye-catching young man. 17 months old and in great condition, he has a beautiful front, correct height to length and leg to body proportions, excellent feet and proportionate bone. He is a powerful mover but he was not as solid in his topline as my 1st place.

3rd Wynne’s Mydisa Hielan Wee Belter

O (5/2 Abs)

1st Jones-Coia’s Ch Icynights Devils Desire – Quality 5½ year old bitch with a feminine head, dark eyes, foxy expression and elegant neck, flowing into a strong topline. On the move she has a powerful drive from behind produced by a well-muscled rear, while maintaining a firm topline. Coming and going her legs move straight and in parallel. Tough decision between her and my eventual BOB, just slightly preferred the balance in outline of the winner.

2nd Wynne’s Ch Mydisa Golden Deelishus JW ShCM ShCEx – lovely 9 year old bitch in excellent nick and with a lovely head and expression. Overall presenting a balanced picture in profile, with good angulation front and rear, correct bone and feet, with no weakness in pasterns. She has a good harsh coat. Sound on the move, just not quite the drive and lightness of foot of 1st place.

3rd Wakker’s Barking Brooks Mountain Mist At Ceannabeinne (Imp USA)

AV Working NCS

Postgraduate (6/2 Abs)

1st Carty’s Bernervalley Lord Of Isle – Bernese Mountain Dog – Substantial young man with an attractive head with a defined stop and strong muzzle. He has straight front legs, strong bone and a good width and depth of chest. He stands well over himself on deep compact feet. I feel his outline, especially on the move, would benefit from carrying a little less weight.

2nd Mcglashan, Fleming & Willunat’s Springhaze Young Spirit – Great Swiss Mountain Dog – I really liked this young lad, not yet 12 months but showing such a balanced picture in profile on the stand. He has excellent matching angles front and rear with a forechest that is developing as you’d expect for a puppy and brisket reaching to his elbows. He has straight well boned legs and excellent compact feet with well arched toes. It was very frustrating to see him show a very slight lameness on the move which his handler assured me was growing pains but I just could not place him higher as a result. I really hope he does grow out of it. Still happy to award him Best NCS Puppy.

3rd Dunn’s Mullacaboo Abitibi Dream - GSMD

O (6/0 Abs)

1st Drinkwater’s Kentwone Apus – Tibetan Mastiff – Impressive mature male with a broad, strong head with correct stop, blunt square muzzle and expressive eyes. He has substantial bone with well laid shoulders, a deep chest, straight legs, slightly sloping pasterns and large feet. He was particularly impressive on the move showing a powerful and purposeful gait. He topped a nice class and deserved his Best NCS

2nd Asiaq Queen Fabiola – Canadian Eskimo Dog - very feminine 5 year old bitch with very nice breed type. She has typical head and expression with an excellent thick ear leather. Particularly pleasing through her neck, front assembly and strong level topline. She is balanced and well muscled throughout which results in a powerful and efficient gait that looks like she could go all day long.

Working Puppy Group

PG1 – Alaskan Malamute – Burgess & Page’s Cedarcreek The Only Way Is Up – 10 month old boy who has everything you’d want to see at his age. Ample bone, excellent feet, beautiful balance both on the go and when standing. His crowning glory is the most beautiful head with ideal proportions and a sweet expression which matches his disposition. What an absolute cracker! This young lad surely has a bright future ahead of him.

PG2 – Great Swiss Mountain Dog

PG3 - Boxer

AV Working Puppy (11/10 Abs)

1st Moir’s Newgraden To The Moon An Back – Newfoundland – 10 month old chap with a lovely expression. He has good bone, nice depth of chest for his age and in profile he looks balanced and well proportioned. He moved soundly and with power.

AV Working Veteran (4/2 Abs)

1st Welsh’s Kayshillblue Ruby Of Dyrockbrook – Rottweiller – attractive 7 year old bitch with correct head proportions. Her neck is well muscled and leads into a strong back which she held firm as she powered around the ring. She has balanced angulation, with straight legs and a broad deep chest. I was delighted to see her take Best Veteran In Show.

2nd Wynne’s Ch Mydisa Golden Deelishus JW ShCM ShCEx – see Siberian Open

Pastoral Breeds

Border Collie

Post Graduate (4/1 Abs)

1st Walker’s Ravenskirk Pretty In Pink – This aptly named pretty 3 year old bitch has good overall balance and smooth outline. She has an attractive head with prick ears which sits on an elegant neck of good length. She has a well laid shoulder, deep enough chest, perhaps a tad long in the body but nonetheless maintaining a strong level back on the move where she came into her own, with a typical lowered head carriage, and effortless, ground covering stride. BOB

2nd Kempton’s Art Of Blossom Drowned In Emotion Into Borderbrook (Imp Esp) – A very appealing head on this youngster, I liked him a lot. Quite different in type to 1, he has a more abundant coat and more substance throughout, with good angles and a lovely outline. At this stage he is just a little narrow in the front causing him to toe out a little. Hopefully as he matures and his chest fills out this will rectify itself.

3rd Walker’s Ravenskirk Brown Eyed Girl

Open (4/0 Abs)

1st Walker’s Miraje Just Because At Ravenskirk – Another pretty bitch, 6 years old and with a very pleasing outline. Balanced angulation, nice front and forechest, proportionate bone, straight legs, slightly sloping pasterns and strong hocks. Again, she won the class on her movement, displaying a flowing, ground covering gait with minimal uplift. In the end she was just pipped to BOB by the PG winner, who, as it turned out, is her daughter.

2nd Sloan’s Locheil Give Me Love From Inverstag – Younger bitch presenting a nice balanced outline, with good height to length ratio, a decent length of leg and ample bone. Dark, correctly shaped and placed eyes give her a very appealing expression. She moved soundly with a lowered head carriage but I preferred the drive and overall smoothness of movement of the winners.

3rd Heggie’s Locheil A Good Heart Ir Jun Ch CJW23

Shetland Sheepdog

Post Graduate (6/2 Abs)

1st Forbes’ Degallo The Prodigy – Very appealing puppy with lovely dark eyes and typical expression. His head is refined, unexaggerated and in proportion with his body. He is a picture of balance with well laid back shoulder and correctly angulated rear. He moves with a ground covering gait with a gracefulness beyond his years and is dead straight coming and going. I’m sure he has a bright future. BP

2nd Macdonald’s Degallo Look Who’s Talking At Ladyoluss – Lovely bitch, larger thoughout than 1 with a clean head, dark eyes and very expressive ears. She has good angles, front and rear, good neck and head carriage and a strong level back.

3rd Saunders’ Leterikhills River Star Over Torriglen JW

Open (6/1 Abs)

1st Forbes’ Degallo Blonde Ambition – Beautiful feminine bitch with a typical head, expressive ears and dark correctly shaped and set eyes. She makes a lovely shape with her elegant neck carrying her head proudly, with a level back flowing into a slight rise up and over her loin and croup. She has proportionate bone and good feet. Her movement is exemplary with her straight legs and balanced angles giving her a smooth, effortless gait. BOB

2nd Proctor’s Cuilshelties Lochan Torr – Attractive blue merle boy, with a harsh coat. He is slightly longer in leg than 1 but with his larger frame and correct angulation, this created a nice balanced profile. He has good bone and feet, a strong flowing topline and croup. He moved smoothly and with drive from the rear.

3rd Shaw’s Bramblecroft Reeba At Bluequarry

Rough Collie

Post Graduate (10/3 Abs)

1st Mcgill & Boyd’s Gemheid May’d Of Gold For Stregato – Pretty 9 month old bitch with dark eyes and a sweet expression. She has a lovely well angulated front with strong straight legs and good feet with sweeping line from her neck through her firm back and gently over her rump. On the move she was straight coming and going with the typical convergence of front feet and on the go around she was steady and purposeful for such a youngster. Deserved her BP & BOB

2nd Proctor’s Didek Moonshine For Cathbri – Very together 2 year tri colour old bitch with a harsh, well fitting coat. She has moderately boned, straight front legs, is balanced in angulation and propelled herself around the ring with drive.

3rd Hodges’ Jopium Follow My Heart

Open (5/0 Abs)

1st Foster’s Didek Eclipse Of The Moon – This 2 year old boy stepped up his movement to win this class having been out-moved in the previous class. He has a sweet expression and clean head. He is balanced with moderate bone, good feet and a harsh coat.

2nd Crawford’s Stregato Foolish Guy For Delseirios – A handsome 3 year old chap with a clean outline. He has a free and easy movement which propelled him effortlessly around the ring, but I preferred the angulation and headpiece of 1.

3rd Proctor’s Opernball At Intermittent Lake (Imp SVN)
