Working Breeds & Groups

Judge: Louise Forster (Kachemak)

Thank you to the society for their invitation to judge the Working Group at this wonderfully traditional county show, at such a lovely, albeit blustery showground. Thank you also to my steward, Jay, and to the exhibitors for their entry.

Bernese Mountain Dog

G (1/0 Abs)

1st Horn’s Westholincar Born And Bred – 2 year old bitch of good substance with strong bone and good feet. She has a pleasing feminine head and expression, with correct skull and dark, almond shaped eyes. She moved with a steady, balanced gait and, although she was slightly long in body, she maintained a strong straight back on the move. She was presented in excellent coat and condition. BOB & Working Group 4

O (3/1 Abs)

1st Scott & Corrigan’s Bern Haus On Oka Mikon To Scobern (imp RUS) – Substantial male of 5 years who had good overall proportions, well boned legs and good feet. He has a strong masculine head and moved with power but I preferred the reach and balance on the move of the young bitch for BOB.

2nd Scott & Corrigan’s Bern Haus On Oka Shikaria To Scobern (imp RUS) – 3 year old bitch who was a little overawed by the whole thing today. Once settled I could see she had good bone and feet, a pleasing head and a decent jacket.

Boxer

G (1/0 Abs)

1st Robson’s Yeteb Morning Skye – very excitable 11-month-old puppy who made me work hard to get my hands on her properly. Her head is typical and she is constructed very nicely with good angles at both ends, straight, strong boned front legs and OK feet. She moved more steadily than I was expecting and made a reasonable account of herself. BOB, BPIB & Working Puppy Group 4

O (No Entries)

Dogue De Bordeaux

G (2/1 Abs)

1st Moran’s Aibrean Liam – 7 month old male who is well grown for his age with a correctly proportioned and totally masculine head. He has a broad deep chest, strong, straight forelegs although I would have preferred for him to be more ‘up on his toes’ with tighter feet. BPIB & Working Puppy Group 3

O (1/0 Abs)

1st Moran’s Aibrean All That I Know – 3 year old bitch of good size and substance. She has a typical head which is obviously feminine. She has good bone and tighter feet. She is well ribbed with a broad deep chest and moved with a more free and fluid gait which won her BOB.

Newfoundland

G (2/1 Abs)

1st Blackburn’s Disoranto A Perfect Match (Imp Pol) – quality 2 year old lad with a lovely head and expression. He has excellent bone and feet with front and rear angulation which is balanced and gives him a powerful yet fluid gait. He was very well presented and handled pushing the open winner hard in the challenge.

O (3/2 Abs)

1st Russell’s Zentaur Fizzical Damage – Another lovely exhibit, almost 4 years old and in his prime. Good angulation at both ends, standing well over himself and creating a lovely balance when stood in profile, also allowing him to generate a free and easy gait driven from behind on strong hocks. Quite a difficult decision between these two boys but the open winner just pipped it with the balanced picture he created in profile. BOB & Working Group 2.

Rottweiller

G (2/0 Abs)

1st Denver-Smith’s Javladare Mr Boombastic – 10 month old boy with a lot going for him. He has an attractive head with the correct proportions. I liked his substance and bone and he was well muscled throughout. Making a nice shape when stood and showing drive on the move. BOB, BPIB & Working Puppy Group 1.

2nd Burton’s Eyredazzle Red Ruby – pretty young girl, very raw but she gained confidence each time she stepped into the ring. Obviously feminine and smaller and finer in stature than the young male, she made a pleasing shape, with a good forechest, balanced angles and a nice length of neck. She does need time to develop throughout and would benefit from more conditioning.

O (2/0 Abs)

1st Featherstone’s Lenxtlen Sweet Diamond By Featherttor – 4 year old bitch with an attractive head and dark eyes. She has a good topline and decent angles front and rear, however she appeared just a little short in the leg. Preferred the balance and movement of the youngster today.

AV Working NCS

P (3/1 Abs)

1st Murphy’s Valhalla Hunter Amazin Aster (Imp Hun) – very appealing Bullmastiff puppy who, at just 6 months was so together and confident. She has a beautiful head with dark eyes and correct proportions. She has enough bone, a strong back, deep brisket and good angles. She impressed with her soundness on the move, especially for such a baby. BNCSP & Working Puppy Group 2.

2nd Blaney’s Nipnatten’s Strong Avaalaqiakulooo Fenrirkin (imp Nor) – Greenland Dog at the opposite end of puppyhood (physically at least). He has a beautiful head with very expressive eyes and ears. He has a good length of neck, a strong back and a typical tail set and carriage. His movement is powerful and I have no doubt he could do his job with ease. He has a lot to offer although I would prefer a touch more substance as he matures.

O (6/4 Abs)

1st Wemyss’ Nanahboozoo No April Fool – 3 year old Bullmastiff bitch of good substance and sound on the move. Nice head with good muzzle length, pronounced stop and not too much wrinkle. She has well boned straight front legs, sloping shoulder and deep brisket. She is perhaps a touch long in the loin but this did not weaken her back. BNCS & Working Group 3.

2nd Robinson & Brown’s Hightimbers Car Oreo Cookie – attractive Hovawart bitch with feminine head and presented in beautiful coat and condition. She was sound throughout and moved fluidly, if a little close behind.

Working Group

G1 – Alaskan Malamute – Phoenix’s Ch Nordicwinds Grtest Showman JW – Quality male with a great ring presence and a sense of humour! He is well put together with ample bone, moderate angles at both ends, a strong slightly sloping topline and an excellent waving plume to finish the picture. I last judged him 4 years ago as a puppy and it’s pleasing to see how well he has matured. I just couldn’t deny this lad the group win as he out-moved the competition.

AV Working Veteran (2/1 Abs)

1st – Ashman & Patrick’s Ch Tom Bombadil Of Polarine Arktika (Imp Pol) – what a delight to see this 11.5 year old Siberian Husky who I last saw at the tender age of 10.5 and who still looks just as fabulous. He has a beautiful foxy head and expression. When standing he has a lovely compact shape with excellent angulation and a solid topline which doesn’t even twitch on the move where he really shows his class. He is so light footed and covers ground with great efficiency.
