Breed: Cocker Spaniels and Field Spaniels

The Yorkshire Gundog Club Open Show Sunday 23 Feb 2025

I would like to thank the Secretary Mrs Karen Bovio and her hard-working committee for inviting me to judge Cocker Spaniels and Field Spaniels at this well-run show.

Thank you to my two efficient stewards who kept the ring running smoothly throughout.

Cocker Spaniel Puppy. (4)

1. Mrs S J Terry, Shaggylands Midnight Train, Blue dog of almost twelve months old. Masculine throughout, with well-proportioned head, tight dark eye and good width and depth to muzzle. Well boned legs and tight feet. He has a super deep well sprung rib, tight elbows and short coupled cobby body. Moved out well from strong well-muscled hindquarters. Balanced in profile, on the move and stacked, topline level. BP and in the shortlist for BPIS 

2. Mrs K & Mr B Mc Shane, Delightful Hunter London Eye at Meggiemac, Light Blue dog of Ten months old, good forehand and hindquarters, deep well sprung rib. Moved well when settled.

3. Mr H J & Mrs C A Welch, Whinburn Hot Press at Carhowel.

 Junior.(1)

1. Miss C Dolan, Snowgate Shine On, Blue Roan dog, quality throughout. He has a well moulded typical head, tight dark eye and gentle expression. Well boned legs and tight feet. Good reach of neck and his shoulders are sloping and fine. His ribs are deep and well sprung. Short coupled square outline. Well angulated muscular quarters and well let down hocks. He moved out positively keeping a level topline and with drive from behind, my best mover of the day BOB and in the shortlist for BIS

Novice. (3)

 1.Mr R & Mrs Y Lowery, Snowgate Certain Style, Blue bitch with the sweetest head and expressive dark tight eye. She has a good reach of neck and well-placed shoulders, good legs and tight feet. Cobby body and well sprung rib. Well angulated muscular hindquarters and well let down hocks. She moved steadily and positively showing good width in front and behind RBOB.

 2. Mr H J & Mrs C Welch Whinburn Hot Press at Carhowel, Black dog puppy of almost ten months, third in puppy and very raw. He has a lovely head and tight dark eye, well-constructed front and hindquarters with good depth and spring of rib. In gleaming coat and condition. Promising happy puppy, just needing a little more ring craft training.

3. Mrs K & Mr B Mc Shane Meggiemac My My Delilah

Graduate (1) Absent.

1. Mrs K.& Mr B Mc Shane, Meggiemac Black Pearl, Black Dog, Masculine well chiselled head, kind dark eye. He has a good reach of neck and excellent front construction with well boned legs and tight feet. bit longer coupled and would benefit from less trimming on outside hindquarters. Moved ok, would prefer firmer topline.

2. Mr N & Mrs J Marsden Chativore Winter Solstice, Blue dog, masculine with kind dark eye. Larger in type and longer coupled. He moved steadily and happily.

Field Spaniels.

   Puppy. 0 entries.

1. Miss J & Ms R Irisbel From Now On, Black dog, with a masculine well chiselled head and tight dark eye. Good reach of neck and well laid-back shoulder. Well boned legs and tight round feet. Deep in body and well-muscled throughout. Strong well-muscled hindquarters that he used well on the move. Presented in gleaming hard condition BOB

2. Mr G & Mrs S. Nadavin Nusa at Sagala. Black bitch, feminine quality head, Balanced and well-muscled throughout. Moved soundly.

1. Mr M R & Mrs C R Sanderson Winfarthings Nice One Cyril, Liver dog with lovely well chiselled head and tight eye. He has well boned legs and tight round feet. Good rib and depth and strong muscular quarters. Smaller type than BOB but still a quality male RBOB
