Junior Warrant Competition – Qualifying Heat

Thank you to the society for inviting me to judge this JW heat. As expected, the overall quality was fabulous, with 46 entries and just 5 absent. With so many beautiful dogs, it was a real challenge to create a shortlist, and I was especially delighted with my final five truly top-drawer exhibits. In no particular order, my choice going through to the semi finals are:

Forge’s Min Smooth Dachshund Normpug Roman Holiday JW. This smart Black and Tan dog has matured beautifully since I judged him as a youngster. He has all the breed attributes, typical head with dark eye and well placed ears. His topline is firm and held on the move. His movement is accurate and true with good ground clearance and well muscled quarters.

Scarlett’s Beagle Vanitonia Enchanted Over Michelroy JW. What a very neat tricolour bitch who makes an nice outline. Lovely head of correct type and expression. Well laid shoulder, correct amount of round bone. Strong, level back, good depth of rib. Tail set correct and held gay. Movement was true fore and aft with good reach in front and good drive behind.

Simms’ Siberian Husky Seaqualina Echo of Light at Arcticskies JW. Striking grey and white dog with precise, light movement. Super head and expression with correct almond eye. Well coated and in super condition. Strong back held firm on the move. Well muscled all through. Didn’t put a foot wrong and was at one with his handler.

Coles’ Leonberger Ch Simden Born to Boogie JW. What a delight it was to judge this beautiful bitch—strong in stature yet full of elegance. Her size belies her wonderful movement: light, precise, and utterly free from coarseness or cumbersome footfall. She has a strong, well-proportioned head, well-boned limbs on tight feet, a well-placed shoulder, a strong back, and a well-muscled rear. In motion she quite literally floated around the ring with a beautiful, correct gait that gave me goosebumps.

Holder & Boggia’s Greyhound Boughton Back To The Future JW. Another I have had the pleasure of judging previously as both a puppy and a young junior, this eye-catching brindle bitch has matured beautifully. She presents a lovely outline with balanced head proportions, a well-laid shoulder, deep chest, and good length of rib. Her strong, well-developed rear quarters powered her movement, which was precise coming and going. She covered the ground with ease on well-boned, well-muscled limbs.
