Dorset County Canine Society

Breed: Pastoral Group

A pleasure to judge for this friendly society. Rather a damp morning and the entry was low but there were some real quality dogs and it ended up being a strong Group.

Bearded Collies

J (1) 1, Carter’s Matley’s Dreamchaser Final Fling with Karmeliann (Imp Can), 16 months with well balanced head, strong jaw, good front and height/length proportions, well presented coat. Somewhat of a handful on the move but did enough to show that her movement was clean all round.

PG (2) 1, BOB, Steele’s Rocpen Juro Twill, slate 3 y/o, correct proportions, good front, balanced head, moved very well keeping a level topline, well angled rear and good tail carriage, not in best coat; 2, O’Brien’s Clanwillow Crown Princess at Gilcharma, 2 y/o, very nice head and outlook, good front and length of body, matching angles, moved pretty well, in good coat. Still needs a little more time to fill out and mature.

Border Collies

O (2) 1, BOB & G2, Hartfield’s Moshanta May Contain Nuts JW SHCEX OSW 5 y/o b/w with a super masculine balanced head, good ear placement and dark eye; excellent well filled front and tight feet, strong rear, beautifully presented and with sound, ground covering movement, a high quality dog; 2, Taylor’s Darian End Game, another handsome mature dog, pleasing head and eye, good lay of shoulder, well turned stifles and hocks well let down, again nicely presented. Moved very well in profile and going away, not as clean in front as 1.

Shetland Sheepdogs

P (3, 1abs) Sable littermates at their first show, of very similar type. 1, BP &PG1, Arnould’s Shadoway Minuette, very pretty feminine girl with super eye and ear giving a sweet expression, lovely front and feet, correct topline, in very good puppy coat, moved very nicely once she settled. Just rather more mature than 2, Arnould’s Shadoway Escapade, also a lovely head and expression; preferred his slightly better fill under the eye. In excellent puppy coat, also moved very nicely for such a baby, just needs a little more time.

SpY (4, 1) 1, BOB & G1, Rossiter’s Cocaro the Highlander, what a little cracker. Shaded sable with sweet but masculine expression, carried his ears well and happy to use them. Beautifully balanced with an excellent front and good fill, correct topline and well angled rear with good turn of stifle and well let down hocks, in full glamorous coat, has that ‘look at me’ attitude that takes the eye, and the conformation and movement to back it up, really sound with precise footfall. Understand he has a couple of RCCs already, and topped this quality Group today; 2, Evans’ Corcaro Pretty in Pink, liiter sister to 1 and of similar quality, well balanced and sound with a pretty feminine head, pleasing close fitting jacket, correct angles both ends and moves very nicely, just needs a little more confidence in the ring; 3, Skilling’s Sherkarl Gold Fever Dacfolke.

PG (4,3) 1, Arnould’s Shadoway Rosa Bella, pretty 2 y/o sable, pleasing head, good front and body with ample depth and ribbing, moved very well all round with light free stride, lightly shown and much to like.

O (2,1) 1, Allen’s Sanbrakel Sunshine Breeze, balanced 3 y/o sable, well put together with a pleasing head and outlook, good front and feet, moved soundly with a light action. Bit reluctant to use her ears today.

AVNSC Pastoral

SpY (1) 1, Smart’s Australian Shepherd, Birkcross She’s Embracing at Shamiraland, 16 months tri, good head with strong jaw, excellent lay of shoulder and return of upper arm, ample ribbing well carried back, moderate hind angulation, plenty of reach in front and drive behind. Riding up in topline both stacked and moving.

PG ( 5,2) 1, BNSC & G4, Riva’s Smooth Collie, Manordeifi Rock On, 4 y/o shaded sable, quite tall but well balanced, head on the strong side but with good planes, and well shaped eye, good ear placement when he felt like showing it; good length of neck into well-laid shoulder, well ribbed up, carried tail well and covered the ground with strong driving action, would just prefer a cleaner elbow; 2, Morton-Hadley’s GSD, Kingsfrome End of an Era, attractive longcoat GSD, well off for bone and substance, shapely outline and quite sound, good front and plenty of strength behind, no exaggerations; 3, Walmsley, Frost and Treadwell’s Norwegian Buhund, Frostisen Zeta (IKC).

O (4,1) 1, Harrell’s Beauceron, Titan des Remparts Castels (Imp Fr) impressive powerful male with a well balanced outline and proportions, excellent front, plenty of depth and substance, moved well enough in the class with plenty of drive and reach. Let himself down in the challenge, needs firmer handling. 2, Taylor, Frost & Treadwell’s Norwegian Buhund, Frostisen Black Zitter, black with a lovely outline, nice head with strong jaw and good earset, short coupled with an excellent front and topline, moderate angulation, tail set high and good reach behind the tail, light brisk movement, very nice; 3, Lattimer’s OES, Aus Ch Ottaba Right On Quewe (Imp Aus)

AV Pastoral

SY (7,1) 1, C Pretty in Pink, much more settled and relaxed in this class; 2, M Dreamchaser Final Fling with K; B She’s Embracing at S.

PG (4, 2) 1, K End of an Era; 2, C Crown Princess with G.

O (1) 1, S Sunshine Breeze.

AV Pastoral Veteran ( 4, 2) 1, BPV, Hartfield’s Border Collie, Laceway Etched in Gold at Moshanta, 11 y/o with really nice head and expression, good shoulder and front, plenty of body, strong behind still and in lovely coat, moved really well with brisk free stride; 2, Summerly’s Australian Shepherd, Scullymadra Greenhill, tri 10 y/o, very sound and in tip-top condition, lovely long free stride in profile, not as pleasing in head as 1.

Imp Reg Pastoral ( 1) 1, Ridgewell’s White Swiss Shepherd, Kontrastas Leonhart; pleasing masculine youngster of not quite 2, good head and outlook, well laid shoulder, kept topline on the move and has a well-angulated but not exaggerated rear, good tail carriage, clean steady mover, still quite immature in body and more to come from him.
