National Working & Pastoral Breeds Society

Norwegian Buhund

I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge at the National Working & Pastoral show and would like to thank my stewards for running the ring. It is lovely to have a few Buhund puppies out at the same time and all the Buhunds were happy to be examined, in some cases were very enthusiastic about it which I did not mind at all.

Puppy. 4 (1 Absentee)

1) Wheeler’s Knytshall Thistle Ink It Up Koromandel. 9-month-old black female, sibling to my number three. The breed standard says that Norwegian Buhunds should square outline with a compact body and this girl definitely fits that definition. Gorgeous alert expression, good use of ears, bright correctly shaped dark eyes and a good wedge head shape. The neck is moderately arched, topline is level and the tail set is good with a tight curl. Good pasterns and appropriate angles on the legs. On the move she moved freely and with purpose.

Lambert’s Sturtmoor’s Gon’n Dun It. 10-month-old wheaten male. Good outline, level topline and developing a good depth of chest. Nice dark eyes, ears erect and a wedge head. Good tail set, tail not as curled as my number one. Angulation is fine and he is in proportion. Moved confidently around the ring with correct gait.

2) Kent & Cobb’s Knytshall Ragged Robin.

3) Denham-Horton’s Tapui Haraldsson At Jjavacobe.

Limit. 1 (1 Absentee)

1) Corin & Camm’s Mazads Nom De Plume. 20-month-old wheaten male. Lovely overall shape, height is towards the taller end of the spectrum but is in proportion with a nice chest depth. Very good head with mobile ears, eyes slightly lighter than some of the others. Tail set is fine. Felt he needed to tighten up a little in the rear on the move but the floor could have been a factor here.

Open. 2 (0 Absentees)

1) Corin & Camm’s Kligenthal Almuric. 5-year-old wheaten male, father to the limit male. I have judged this boy before and it is great to see that he is consistent in muscle tone between appointments, handsome wedge-shaped head and expressive alert ears, eye not quite as almond as some. Medium length neck with a moderate arch, level topline and nice curl of tail which is well set. Moved freely around the ring with good drive.

2) Shorer-Wheeler’s Sturtmoor’s Ffascination With Koromandel. 5-year-old wheaten female. Good overall shape, very feminine and lightly built, tapered wedge head with dark alert eye and expressive ears, good tail set. Unfortunately kept hitching her rear leg on the move so gait was not flowing.

Veteran. 1 (1 Absentee)

1) Shorer-Wheeler’s Ch Maidofcopper For Koromandel (Fin Imp) Jw. 10-year-old wheaten female. This lady bounced into the ring absolutely full of joy and has a good overall silhouette. High set ears and feminine head. She has good neck angulation, a deep ribcage and level topline. Her enthusiasm made assessing movement interesting but once settled she moved well.
