Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier

BURTON ON TRENT KENNEL ASSOCIATION

Thank you to all the exhibitors for your entries and for accepting your placements with the good grace and sportsmanship our breed has.

Whilst a couple of dogs were difficult to access, and therefore were placed accordingly, it was good to see that in the main, the dogs were full of character and enjoyed their day.

I found a couple with tighter nares, but no obvious respiratory issues. Attention needs to be given to feet and nails, long nails can be painful to the dog and does affect its grip and footfall.

Condition is important - a balance between too stripped out / soft too the touch, against hard muscle gives a better balance.

Coats, most were clean, soft, short and gleaming l.

My Best of Breed so deserved his success.

Puppy D/B 5 - 2A

1st. KEEPASTAFF HALEY’S COMET (IMP DNK)

A 9 month old B/B bitch whose movement give her first in the class, a bit unsettled on occasions, but I saw enough, coupled with her lovely top line both on the stack and on the move.

She used her ears to good effect, with nice round dark eyes, with a bit of sparkle in her expression. Enough covering and muscle tone for her age, good bone and tail carriage, I can see much more to come from this young one.

Well deserved best puppy in breed.

2nd. KEEPASTAFF LETS LOAD IT (IMP DNK)

Litter brother to 1st, B/B, with a beautiful head, nice large teeth, strong short neck, leading into a well balanced body. He has good bone structure, and ribs developing as they should at this age. On the stack he was a bit unsettled however time will remedy this.

Junior D/B 7 - 1A

1st. JOJALANE I DRINK WINE

A dog that you cannot take your eyes off, red with white, striking and full of character. A hand full for his handler, but he got the best out of him on the day.

Well boned, with a strong head, ears used to good effect, nice dark eyes, nares nice and open, strong jaw and clean lipped. Well muscled, but not overdone for his age, stiffles well bent and he strode out with drive and power - handler had a job keeping a straight line. Well padded feet, plenty of rib, kept a nice top line on the stack.

He had strong competition in this class and his overall picture just gave him first.

2nd. ARKENSTAFF SHES THE ONE

This young bitch has the most beautiful of feminine head, she’s very fit and muscled up, maybe a tad too striped for me for her age.

She has a well boned structure, straight front,

great angulation, both rear and fore.

Feet are very neat and well padded, use’s her ears and eyes to give a wonderful Stafford expression. Nice clean lips, with strong teeth, set correct scissor bite.

Her movement flowed with drive and kept a level topline throughout.

One to keep an eye on .

Post Graduate D/B 3 - 1A

1st. HARLIVSTAFF CAPTAIN COADY

A strong red male, that gives his owner a work out. His coat was in beautiful condition, well boned with straight front. Nice round dark eyes, set off by well placed ears. Well muscled with a good tuck up, good bend of stifle with well let down hocks. Up on his pasterns, with well padded feet and very tidy nails.

He carried his tail well on movement and gave the picture of a nice pump handle on the stack. Nicely proportioned. Good rib and sternum. Pleased to award him reserve best of breed.

2nd T’BLAZING STAR OF THE WARRIORS RED SKINS AT DEXILYSTAFFS (IMP FRA)

A well balanced dog, red male, with a black mask, white chest. Plenty of bone, good tuck up and well muscled. Would liked to have seen him use his ears, to go finish the picture his eyes give.

Nice clean lips, clean faced. Well balanced and in proportion, feet could be tighter,

He moved well for his handler.

LIMIT D/B 2

1st TORKAVI THE LAST DRAGON AT TESHLEYSTAFF JW

A finer boned bitch that has a wonderful expression, that is fit and well muscled.

She moved with drive and ease, on lovely well padded feet, which were neat and tidy.

Her top line was held on the move and on the stack, giving a picture of a well balanced female. Open nares, complimented a stunning feminine head, with dark expressive eyes, distinct stop and well used ears.

Clean and elegant throughout.

2nd LLANSTAFFS THE ONE AT RIGANTONA

B/B bitch that was unlucky to come up against first today. These two will swop places on many occasions. I felt she wasn’t as fit as one today. Her coat was gleaming and clean, nice clean head, on a strong short neck. Her bone structure is spot on, helping her move with drive. Her tail carriage and top line tick the boxes for the breed. In proportion, with a good rib cage and sternum.

OPEN D/B. 4 - 1A

1st KALOSTAFF ES LO QUE ES JW

I’ve admired this boy from ringside for long enough now and to be able to get hands on him in the ring was a huge honour.

From the moment he walked in he owned that ring, his ring presence oozed through. He’s at one with his handler. Black brindle lad, who is well muscled, his upper thigh muscle is one for all to aim for!

His bone structure is exactly what I would want in male Stafford’s, he’s very very fit, in fabulous condition and just oozes breed type.

Nothing exaggerated, just well balanced and in proportion. From his stiffles, to his angulations, through his movement it all shows a well put together dog. Eyes, ears, everything about his head screams male Stafford, and he so deserved to go Best of Breed today.

2nd HAMASON SWEET LITTLE MYSTERY JW

A pied boy who is very strong, well boned, but a bit longer in the back than 1st. His head is top size, with well set ears and dark eyes.

He wasn’t one for using those ears today, and seemed a bit flat. His feet are well padded, good strong pasterns, and well let down hocks at the rear. He moved well, with a level top line.

Well ribbed, strong muscular neck, decent tuck up.
