South Western Gundog Club Open Show

19.10.2025

Thank you for the invitation to judge this prestigious show and to the exhibitors for a large entry of quality dogs, I really enjoyed my day.

Puppy 1 (0)

1. Clarke’s Riverbrue Gives You Hell Very happy young boy, enjoying his day out and learning his job. Balanced head piece with lovely parallel planes, good chiselling through foreface, well defined stop and melting expression, clean finish to muzzle. Lovely reach of neck into good front assembly, standing on neat, tight feet. Ample ribbing for his age. Super width to quarters and turn of stifle which he used to drive round the ring. Everything in balance and moderation, just as you would want at this age. BPIB.

Junior 2 (0)

Two lovely litter sisters enjoying their time in the ring.

1. Roberts’ Polmennor Spice Of Life Just had the edge over her sister today on overall balance and moderation, although a little tall at the moment. Very pretty bitch, long and lean head with refinement, being critical I would like a tad more stop. Lovely reach of neck with classic crest into well-laid back shoulders paired with great return of upper arm. She is not as well sprung in the ribs as her sister at present. Gently sloping topline leads into firm croup and correct tail set. Excellent, moderate rear quarters which were used to move well.

2. Roberts’ Polmennor Pandora Again, super pretty little bitch who has a naughty but nice melting expression and lovely low-set ears. Great reach of neck into correct front assembly and ample spring of rib. Super width to her quarters, but for her age I would prefer a more moderate bend of stifle. Short hock to heel. Moved well. Lovely featherings.

Yearling 3 (1)

1. Rutherford’s Clonageera Summer Moments JW Balanced bitch in profile with sweet head and expression. Well-laid-back shoulders leading into gently sloping topline, with correct finish to croup and tail set. Good body and bone all through, standing on tight feet. Moved ok.

2. Pym’s Marzanne Trigger Happy By Thendara JW Super presence and balance to this dog with fabulous coat and featherings for his young age, for me it just came down to type, and my preference was for the more moderate first. Great body and bone all through. Fabulous front construction. Well-ribbed back, gently sloping topline. Super width to well-made quarters, used to move well.

Post Graduate 5 (0)

1. Full’s Henaleas Go West At Teignestuary Lovely type. Balanced and handsome headpiece with raised brow and good stop, correct finish to muzzle. Lovely reach of neck with classic crest leading into well-laid back shoulders and correct return of upper arm. Nice fill in front, straight front, standing on decent feet. Lovely moderate rear quarters with excellent width to first and second thigh. Moved well to take the class with ease. RBOB.

2. Aldridge’s Clonageera Winner Takes All JW Different type to my winner, well-made substantial boy with plenty of bone. For me, a shade heavy in head, but he is all in proportion. Great front assembly, with good fill in front, standing on tight, arched feet. Ample spring of rib, firm loin, and moderate quarters. Short hock to heel. Powered round the ring well. Fabulous featherings.

3. Gardiner’s Glimmer Noblesse Eagle Eye Of Blaysdell (IMP SVK) Gorgeous type of dog, lovely in stack, totally balanced, just lost out on movement today, perhaps struggling with the small indoor venue and slippery mats.

Limit 3 (0)

1. Henderson’s Redclyst Pershing Moderate, racy dog. Melting headpiece, handsome and refined yet holds masculinity. Muscular neck leads into laid back shoulder and lovely return of supper arm. Firm topline. Lovely moderate rear quarters. Struggling on the move today, a little weak behind.

2. Pike and Henderson’s Redclyst The Celt Another from this kennel with similar remarks. Smaller mould boy but all in proportion. Balanced head planes and lovely finish to flew and correct stop. Good return of upper arm. Would prefer a more gentle slope to topline. Excellent width to thighs. Again, struggled on the move today, particularly from behind.

3. Macdonald’s Redclyst Head Full Of Dreams

Open Dog 4 (0)

1. Meadows’ Gwendariff Just Talk About Me 6-year old dog who was balanced all through which won him the class. Melting expression with soft eyes. Well-made, straight front with decent forechest. Ample ribbing and firm loin, firm topline, held on the move. Being critical, a little straight in stifle but it is all in balance. Moved with correct footfall, just lacking some verve today to go further.

2. Pike’s Redclyst Boris Gorgeous headpiece, perfectly parallel head planes, just enough stop and lovely finish to foreface. Lovely low-set ears, graceful reach of neck with classis crest. Gently sloping topline, lovely and firm all through, great to see. Fabulous coat and featherings. Lovely moderate quarters, just lacking a little width today, which showed in his close behind rear movement which cost him. BVIB.

3. Macdonald’s Redclyst Maximus VW

Open Bitch 3 (1)

1. Rutherford and Prangle’s Clonageera Take A Chance JW Super little bitch, many of my earlier comments judging her as a youngster still apply. As I’ve said before, for me, a shade heavy in head, particularly in muzzle for me, however she still holds femineity and has a good stop and brow. She stands on fabulous bone all through, super straight front and tight, arched feet. Balanced fore and aft, firm topline, well ribbed -back and firm loin. Super rear quarters which she used to glide round the ring. BOB.

2. Henderson and Szwajkowski’s Grenada Lofty Czerwony (IMP POL) Head of correct proportions but eye slightly round for my preference. Lovely reach of neck into well-made front. Feet could be tighter. Well spring ribs. Gently sloping, firm topline. Nice rear quarters. Let herself down on the move today, particularly at the rear.
