Saturday 20th September 2025

Judge: Miss L A Harper (Glynerva)

It was an honour to be invited to judge at Yorkshire Golden Retriever Club open show and I would like to thank the committee for the invitation and their generous hospitality. I receive a warm welcome and the venue was ideal allowing plenty of space for everyone. Thank you to Pat and Graeme for stewarding and for keeping everything running smoothly. I was very pleased with the overall quality of the entry making decisions very close in some classes, howeve I did find one or two level bites.

1. Copley’s - Ashbyglen True Colours at Emmabe, this 5 month old has plenty of bone and is nicely proportioned for his age, short coupled and stood on lovely cat like feet. He was loving his day out and moved out well with a happy wagging tail. Best Baby Puppy in Show

3. Mears - Ambersun Winter Storm

JUNIOR DOG (2/1)

1. Ellis - Tenfield Drunken Dingo JW, he stood alone in this class but he turned out to be my star of the day. Typical golden temperament with a happy outgoing disposition he stood out for his overall balance throughout, not overdone in any way. He is in lovely condition with a full golden coat and moved round the ring with power and drive, the more he moved the better he got. From all angles he impressed on the move. VETERAN DOG (1)

1. Wright’s - Palton Pavarotti – (1st Limit)

MINOR PUPPY BITCH (3)

Three nice puppies in this class thoroughly enjoying their day out. I am sure they will all swap place as they grow and mature.

1. Mandley’s Maltqudos Vanity Fayre, very sweet 6 months old girl, pretty head with good pigment, good reach of neck, well constructed front with matching rear angulation. Level topline with tail carried straight off her back. Very settled on the move which won her this class, please to award her BPB

2. Vernon’s Graceleigh Hoochie Coochie, another very pretty girl of 8 months old, well grown for her age but she stands on beautiful straight legs with the neatest of feet. Short compact body with well angled from and rear. She was just a little unsettled on the move today.

3. Lowther’s Vera’s Mystery at Evenmint

PUPPY BITCH (5/2)

1. Smith’s Goldmarker Luminora, almost 12 months, a very feminine young lady my notes say a very neat little package. She free stands four square paying full attention to her handler. Good angulation front and back and a level topline, moved with drive. Not quite in full coat today

2. Vernon’s Graceleigh Hoochie Coochie, (2nd MPB)

3. Trotter’s Baricia Tooty Fruity

JUNIOR BITCH (4/2)

1. Foster’s Auristrela Ginger Rodgers JW, 13 month girl in lovely pale coat, pretty head, good reach of neck and a nice compact body, moved very well

2. Nelson’s Cadwst Song of Spring JW, another lovely girl of 16 months, larger frame but still balanced with a good shape. Just didn’t have the same drive as 1st on the move today

YEARLING BITCH (2/1)

1. Foster’s Auristrela Singing Hinnie JW, she stood alone in her class but her 1st place was well deserved. Very pretty head, nice reach of neck flowing onto well laid back shoulder. Good depth of chest and spring of rib, level topline and short coupled. Moved well from all angels. Shortlisted from BB

NOVICE BITCH (3/0)

UNDERGRADUATE BITCH (3/3)

GRADUATE BITCH (3/1)

Like both of these girls a lot it was a very close decision

1. Mandley’s Maltqudos Enchanted JW, eye catching girl shown in full golden coat. Feminine head with lovely dark pigment, clean neck flowing onto well placed shoulders with matching return of upper arm. She has a good depth of chest, well sprung ribs and short coupled. Level topline and correct tailset. She tends to flag her tail a little as she moves off but the more, she moved the better it gets. She pushed very hard for top honours today, but her time will come, delighted to award her RBB

2. Loverock & Waldron-Smith Lovissa Cosmic Girl, very unlucky to meet 1st in this class. The same comments above apply for this girl. I liked her very much she just wasn’t as settled on the move today.

POST GRADUATE BITCH (3)

1. Tower’s Alibren Majestic Dawn JW, Not quite in full coat today but still lots to like about her. Lovely head with dark pigment, good reach of neck, nicely angled fore chest, deep through her heart with well sprung ribs. Moved out with purpose and drive.

2. Ellis’s Tenfield Sunloch, again similar comments for this girl, a compact balanced frame she was just carrying little too much weight today which made her roll on the move.

3. Crookes & Jenkinson’s Thornywait Royal Story for Quakerhall JW

LIMIT BITCH (5)

1. Ellis’s Tenfield Sparking Sunshine JW, I have done this girl well before and she has matured nicely. This compact balanced girl in well muscled and uses this to her advantage on the move, moving straight forward and back and covering the ground with purpose and drive. Attractive head and good pigment she is shown in a rich golden coat, I wouldn’t want her to carry any more weight. She gave her handler a bit of a hard time in the challenge and didn’t show herself to advantage in the shortlisted for BB

2. Nelson’s Willowlawn Staycation at Cadwst, larger framed girl than the winner of the class but still had nicely balanced angels front and rear. Just carrying a little weight over her shoulders which detracted from her overall picture. Moved true and with purpose. Well handled

3. Broadhead’s Strathlon Spirit of Ecstasy JW

4. Vernon’s Graceleigh Firenze

5. Maddison’s Jaymardy Sweet Caroline JW

OPEN BITCH (3/2)

1. Smith’s Goldmarker Luminess (AI), not a big girl but a very happy girl who made me smile. Free stands and shows off her pretty frame. Well laid back shoulder, level topline with good tailset. Good depth of chest and well sprung ribs. Lovely turn of stifle and neat hocks. She moved well with an ever-wagging tail.

VETERAN BITCH (3/1)

1. Crookes & Jenkinson’s Quakerhall Victory Jubilee JW, well what can I say at 10 years young this girl just flew round the ring moving true forward and back on the neatest of feet. She has the sweetest of heads so attentive to her handler and willing to please. She has a classic balanced outline with good angulation. Level topline and correct tail carriage. She demanded attention and there was no denying her BB, BVB, and ultimately Reserve Best in Show and Best Veteran in Show

2. Nelson’s Willowlawn Devon Belle at Cadwst, Another lovely girl of 8 years, larger framed than the winner but still presented a pleasing picture shown in full pale coat. Another one who moved well and not showing her age.
