Merseyside Gundog Club

Merseyside Gundog Club 75th Anniversary Premier Open Show – 9th November 2025 – Pointers

Thank you to The Merseyside Gundog Club for the invitation to judge Pointers. Grateful thanks also to my ring stewards on the day. I had a nice entry with some super examples of our lovely breed.

Class 110 – Puppy (4,1)

1st – Tenshilling Catch The Wind (Mrs L & Mrs C J Angus & O’Neill) – 9 month orange/white dog with lots of very promising qualities and just right for his age. Handsome boy with a kind and gentle expression. Good length of neck leading into great front assembly with good shoulders and length of upper arm. This showed well in his movement. He is well ribbed back and strong over his loin. Good turn of stifle with nice short hocks which allowed him to move with drive and accuracy around the ring. BPiB

2nd – Piasharn Anne Bonny (Mrs C J & Mr K H Bush) – 10 month liver and white bitch. Pretty head with good proportions. Good neck leading into well laid shoulders. Nice bone although feet were a little round. Nicely angulated rear and shown in good, muscular condition. Once settled she moved well. Still very much a baby but has promise with time.

Class 111 – Junior (4,1)

1st – Lungarth Ticket to Fly JW (Mrs S E Booth) – 12 month black/white girl with the most beautiful head and expression with kind dark eyes. A girl I have watched with interest ringside. She was very balanced throughout and stood over her ground well. Super turn of stifle leading to low set hocks allowing her to move with accuracy and drive. She just needs a big ring to do her effortless movement justice.

2 / 4

2nd – Sonham Just A Pretty Belle (ai) JW – 15 month liver/white bitch. Built on a larger frame than 1. Another youngster with good qualities. Nothing overdone about her and is pleasing in profile. Balanced in head, good neck leading into nice clean shoulders. She has lovely bone and stands on good, shaped feet. Good turn of stifle and was shown in hard, muscular condition. She went well on the move using her tail well. Another who needs a bigger ring.

Class 112 – Graduate (5,3)

1st – Laveto Remember When (Mr & Mrs L Millet) – 19 month black/white dog. Another who I have admired from ringside. Eye catching in profile being balanced fore and rear. Nice sized dog with pleasing head. I particularly liked his reachy, muscular neck leading into super front. Has good length of upper arm and well-placed shoulders. Good topline with his neat tail coming straight off. Nicely angulated quarters and again, when he settles on the move he strides out well.

2nd – Meadowpoint Spooktacular (Miss K & Miss D Wall & Dunn) – 2yr old liver/white dog. Pleasing head with well set thin ears. Moderate angles front and rear. He was carrying a little too much weight today. Moved well and used his short tail nicely.

Class 113 – Post Graduate (5,2)

1st – Riowood Orange Twist (Mr & Mrs L Millett) – 2yr orange/white dog who I have always liked from a puppy. A good-sized boy who is all in proportion from his head to his tail. Beautiful head with dark eye, lovely front. Good pasterns and feet. Held his topline well on the move, going with drive off his well-muscled quarters. He has the neatest bee sting tail which he uses well. Pushed hard today but was pleased to award him BoB and I was delighted to hear that he finished the day off by going RBiS. Very well done!

3 / 4

2nd – Piasharn Rocka Rolla (Mrs C J & Mr K H Bush) – 2yr black/white dog who I have previously awarded well and the same views still apply. A good, honest dog with nothing overdone. He presents a lovely shape on the stack and I feel he is really starting to mature now. Shown in good, hard condition.

Class 114 – Limit (4,2)

1st – Codnorhawk Starlight On Moreoldglen (Mrs A M & Ms L M Boulton) – 3yr liver/white bitch – loved her! The prettiest picture in profile. Built on more traditional lines but she is all there. Pretty head, with thin well-set ears. Super bone with good pasterns standing on well padded feet. She is a series of graceful curves and moved well on a steady and even stride with drive whilst lashing her little tail. A lovely girl!

2nd – Brent Deville’s Advocate at Owlspoint (ai) (Miss A Bell) – 2yr black and white dog. Nothing overdone with this boy. Has grown in confidence a lot over the years which is nice to see. Nice head, with good proportions. Balanced all through and shown in good, muscular condition. He wasn’t as happy as I have seen him on the move today though and was reluctant to use his tail.

Class 115 – Open (4,2)

1st – Sunhouse Black Is Back at Salmonmist (ai) JW (Ms S R Philo) – 2yr black/white dog. A boy I have always loved. He has a striking outline which commands attention. Beautiful head, with lovely dark eyes and expression. Super front with great depth of chest. Strong over his loin and in excellent, muscular condition. Good carriage and I know he.36+--------------------------- can power on the move but the small ring didn’t suit him today. RBoB.

2nd – Hawkfield Black Swan (Miss C Pratt) – 5yr solid black bitch. Ultra feminine and pretty. Another series of graceful curves and she was very balanced throughout. Lovely neck leading to a good layback of

shoulder with good return of upper arm. She moved out well using her tail correctly.
